Angelo Stiller | Journos : Player is staying at Stuttgart

Not great, not terrible. He's a bit of a Pirlo (I think he's more similar to him than to his hero Kroos) as he always plays with a more defensive physical partner. He's smart, tactically astute and way more reliable in possession than Bruno but he's not that athletic. He's going to be great next to, say, Baleba or someone similar but we don't have anyone like that (stylistically — Ugarte but it doesn't look like he's up for it).
Thanks, the Pirlo comparison works well with what I saw.

He seems like an interesting player, but the links dont seem realistic considering Bruno is likely in midfield most of this season acting as the orchestrator.

Look's to be a good passer of the ball but what's his ball winning like?

We do need a deep lying midfielder and a box-to-box.
Baleba is more a box-to-box, and our current crop of midfielders are number 8s rather than 6.
Therefore, Stiller being more of a number 6 fits perfectly with what we currently need.
Next year, Baleba and Stiller would compliment well each other.
Baleba as a 6 is a waste of his qualities.

From what I remember, Michael Edwards is a huge fan of this guy.

Which again begs the question why we didn't cash in on Bruno Fernandes if it gave us the chance of going for a more balanced pairing in Stiller and Baleba.

Reminds me stylistically a bit of Miralem Pjanic.
Edit - Just saw his passing stats. Wow. I'd advise everyone to check them out. He's putting out high volume, high accuracy and still putting out strong numbers of key passes which is hard to do. If we can get a lad like this in we really should make it happen.

Threads can be started based on a Tier 3 source from the "other football teams" list.

I find that Ben Jacob's just regurgitates what he gets from Ornstein and Romano - we see copy and past jobs 10 min later. Or in this case, pulls is out of his ar$e. How would he know who is on United's shortlist?

Sheth mentioned we had interest on Sky too, however also said incomings are unlikely but said want to be in a position to do something if opportunity presents itself

I really like him and think it's a shame he didnt get a real chance to break through in our first team when he was in our youth.

However, I dont think he is the right partner for Bruno, if he continues to play in CM.

The Pirlo/Kroos/Alonso comparisons are spot on, thats the type of player he is.

Not exactly bad players to be compared to, let's say we could somehow get Baleba next summer. Would you say that he could partner well with him?

some late night compilation viewing for me. gotta love the transfer window

I only do that if player looks close to joining, that way I'm not totally gutted when he joins Real or Bayern. Would love this story to get some legs from the usual Utd journos and the don in coming days but not optimistic.

he looks more like a Kimmich-esque player to me

he and Baleba could complement each other well

Baleba for physicality and ball carrying
Stiller for passing and tempo

My thoughts exactly, maybe we should be thinking about doing the groundwork on it now for next summer

This is a transfer that feels like it shouldnt work due to ‘fit’, but something about it makes me think it could be a difference maker for the season.
With the added ball playing ability i can see it improving our chances for the season by >20%.

Plus without knowing his character, he strikes me as an under the radar signing that uniteds fans, commentators which gives us a lift.

Or maybe I’m just projecting my hope for a signing.

Enough with prioritizing this year's squad. How he fits in with these specific midfielders doesn't matter. It's not like our midfield is good right now as it is. What matters is how he fits in with his long term midfield partners. If our midfield is indeed getting an injection of players, then we're already making the decision that the current midfield is not going to stay long at United.

The long term vision is more important. 4 seasons outweighs 1 season.

I'd only get him if Baleba was his partner next year, now it doesn't make sense with Bruno, Casemiro and Mainoo

Yeah I can see exactly where you are coming from, wonder who is the backup target to him next summer

Because the club’s not brave enough.

This could be both a short and long term solution.

In the short term we need more depth and skill at CM. We still haven’t replaced Eriksen to make up the numbers, which is particularly important given that Collyer has been loaned elsewhere.

Long term, he could be a good partner to accompany Baleba beginning next summer. One is a physical box to to box guy, and the other being more of a Kroos/Carrick style passer.

Yeah I hope the club see it like that as well, this just might be that market opportunity signing presenting itself that Sheth referenced earlier. The problem is we would need to sell Garnacho and get couple of loan fees to fund it

Links to him and Wharton make me think that we may be looking with 2 ball playing CM and compensate the athleticism, pace and power from other area (central defence, wing backs)

From watching a couple videos and seeing a few photos I conclude that this dude is aged somewhere between 18 and 38

Yeah maybe that's the thinking behind it

I don't know much about him but I would love a kroos type player with metronomic passing.... That would be a welcome addition to the team

Yeah, i can see the advantage of a fastt and strong athlete like Baleba but I'm more excited about the idea of a Kroos or Rodri in our midfield dominating possession.

Is it safe to assume that most opponents will park the bus and try to hit us on the counter or take their set pieces seriously, as Arsenal did against us over the weekend? If so, I lean toward less of a destroyer and more toward a midfielder who can defend but is a brilliant passer. With Baleba beyond our reach until next season, I'd like us to bring in a passing midfielder who can defend to rotate with Casemiro and Ugarte, depending on the opponent and the game situation.
This
With teams parking bus and us struggling against low block defences, he should make sense.

Composed and accurate passing in such situations will help us a lot.

Should be all in for him if the price is right.

Exactly, rather get him now and he spends the year getting used to the system and the premier league.

Hasn't Jacobs had a good window though? I'm sure I read that he has, at least in terms of United.
Besides, this is a fan forum -- a platform for discussion. And not gradation of media/informational sources.

Ironic thing is, considering that 99.998% of us here have no direct sources of information for most of the discussions. Just opinions.

So who are we to judge whose information is reliable? Ultimately, a broken clock is correct twice a day. Unless we think judging these media sources makes us feel better about ourselves.

I agree

Recommended by Kroos himself. Okay I'm convinced. Too bad the links are not reliable
