I was expecting his time at Sevilla would have triggered a change in his situation with us.
His injuries are not sustainable for any club to keep servicing. It understandable most of them are not reoccurring ones but it gets to a point you need to ask the guy himself, what are you doing to help your body deal. From interviews, majority of players that were dogged with injuries and got out of it would mainly give credit it to a particular change in their usual routine. The body is funny in the sense that small variations can be damaging or benefiting and it’s up to an individual to keep at it with their specialists.
I’ve liked what he is bought to the team when he plays just a rarity when needed. Though I always feel this season apart from our City derby at home, he played through the motions and didn’t commit himself fully in games. Why it always seemed visibly obvious to me whenever he tried to push himself and engage, leaves me thinking those sporadic moments are not what is expected from someone fighting to keep what they have.
If we are not selling we need to buy some one already performing at a higher level to him and if he good/want it enough he will rise to it. We can’t make plans for him because he is yet to show top class ability. Every player has few good games every season but it’s inability to continue at the same level that’s the differentiator.
