Eh? This article says they paid all of his wages: https://theathletic.com/3511869/202...united-to-sign-anthony-martial-on-loan/?amp=1. There's also a Guardian article that says the same thing. Only other one I can find that says different is a Goal.com one, which doesn't seem to be as reliable a source.
I got it from the BBC and it was also in ESPN and The Mirror from the looks of it (are those two better than goal? I feel ESPN probably is but The Mirror I've no idea) but it's not exactly as clear that it happened as I thought, to be honest.
It is thought Martial has indicated a willingness to take a pay cut to allow the deal to go through.

Fair play, there are always so many conflicting reports out that it's tough to get to what really happened. I do also remember talk about him being willing to do that to get football but not sure whether it materialized or was a PR job by his people.

Thanks and goodbye.

He took a lot, a lot out of a fantastic football club. Many of the fans gave him a chance, despite a clear attitude and commitment problem. I will not be sad to see him go. Four years too late in my opinion.

He is exaggerating. Last season he played once 90 minutes and once 102 minutes, in the cups.
Well if you want to be pedantic I said for Utd, so the 102 minutes for Sevilla doesn't count.

But yes you're right, he managed 90 minutes in an EFL cup game in September 2021. Still a long time ago.

That's still not really many full games for a player in his 20's is it? You'd agree he's incredibly injury prone?

United wont be able to move him on in the summer, so Martial will be here next season...which I have no problem with as long as its the Weghorst role (3rd choice CF)

You can feel how you see fit dude, but complaining about his wages compared to mere mortals is futile. That’s all I was saying.
I'm not complaining. I said I don't feel sorry for someone who is being injury prone when he's getting paid 13m per year. Not sure why are you complaining of me saying that?

We'll never be able to sell him. Offer him half his remaining contract up front and hope he takes it.

At least we'll save a couple million.

Any chance of this “injury” being cover for a decision to drop him altogether from the upcoming cup final?

Is there any doubt that not only he could still be injured for the pre-season next season, we could not sell him because of it even if we want to ?

We got Phil Jones situation all over again

This latest injury just reinforces that we need 2 strikers this summer.

Martial is completely and utterly unreliable, we're stuck paying his ridiculous wages for another year but honestly we should act as though he's already left. Even if he does play a few games next season it won't last long before he's injured again.

We need a main striker and an understudy this transfer window.

I have a feeling this is a Ten Hag trick but if it’s true then f him and hopefully Garanacho can scare Akanji

Had his minutes carefully managed the last month and still missing when it counts.

Being a back up next year will probably work, but the time to rely on him has long gone.

Useless. If we can't sell him we should still sign two strikers he's not reliable even as back up.

Probably wouldn't have made much difference but still would have liked him to start today if only to avoid having Sancho on the pitch.

He has actually proven to be useless. We tried to cotton wrap him and only played him for 60 minutes most matches or used him sparingly off the bench but he still managed to get injured for the cup final.

Sell him asap. We need two strikers. If we have money for one big money signing, get Thuram for free, just please get rid of him, no point keeping him when he can't be reliably depended upon.

Actually, I noticed that he's got one year left on his contract. If we can't move him on, best to keep him around as 2nd or 3rd choice Striker. I can live with him for 1 more year if we can't get a minimum bid.

We are going to have to keep him, on high wages and only a year left. I’d happily bring Thuram in on a free and leave Martial as a 3rd option, the guy can stay fit whatsoever.

His Liverpool supporting wife
I was expecting his time at Sevilla would have triggered a change in his situation with us.
His injuries are not sustainable for any club to keep servicing. It understandable most of them are not reoccurring ones but it gets to a point you need to ask the guy himself, what are you doing to help your body deal. From interviews, majority of players that were dogged with injuries and got out of it would mainly give credit it to a particular change in their usual routine. The body is funny in the sense that small variations can be damaging or benefiting and it’s up to an individual to keep at it with their specialists.
I’ve liked what he is bought to the team when he plays just a rarity when needed. Though I always feel this season apart from our City derby at home, he played through the motions and didn’t commit himself fully in games. Why it always seemed visibly obvious to me whenever he tried to push himself and engage, leaves me thinking those sporadic moments are not what is expected from someone fighting to keep what they have.
If we are not selling we need to buy some one already performing at a higher level to him and if he good/want it enough he will rise to it. We can’t make plans for him because he is yet to show top class ability. Every player has few good games every season but it’s inability to continue at the same level that’s the differentiator.

Surely Martial is literally the perfect profile for Saudi interest? He’s got a name, a brand - he’s reached heights but no longer at the peak of his powers. His profile is big enough, he’s been the main striker at United, and United would be open to a deal for him. At 27, it would still be a coup for the league to have a player of his calibre playing there in something resembling prime years.

It just makes too much sense but no sign of it at present.

Martial is literally becoming a 1/10 player. Constantly injured, offers zero quality, negative aura and body language on the pitch. People moan about Maguire etc. but imo Martial is among the worst. If there’s any kind if selling opportunity we have to take it.

Let us be frank. Martial may well have suffered injuries and if so, the gods have the last laugh over such matters. But if you are fit enough to play, you are fit enough to give a shit and the underlying problem with Martial is that, for whatever reason, when he's on the pitch he does not give a shit.

That’s my point. I won’t blame anyone for being injury prone, it’s sad and I feel for those type of players. I accept it. What I can’t accept is the complete lack of form beetween injuries since.. years. Comes on, slow, negative body language, doesn’t care, no contribution at all. In real life, he would a company worker being on sick leave for weeks, then come back doing a shity job and leaves again.

Selling him would be like a new signing for us. Players like him are a burden on this club.
