Yeah he's a great attacker but their attack is hardly their problem. Valverde and his tactics are.
They are planning for suarez's poor form and age.
It was, but then the Barca dressing room vetoed it. I think the quote, while true, doesn't necessarily mean that things haven't changed recently. Griezman himself has said today he knows where he wants to go and might not stay in La Liga.
Why hide it though? What could happen?
Well at the moment there is nothing to hide because there is nothing legally binding, Griezmann cannot sign a contract with Barcelona as long as he is under contract with Atletico because that's illegal unless Atletico authorize them to sign a pre contract which they won't. And Barcelona or the club that he is joining won't give him the money when he doesn't have a contract with them, they will go to the LFP with the money, the contract and the registration when they want to do it and keep quite in the mean time.
He's gonna be fuming that the rug has been pulled out from under him with his pathetic little "oh I don't know what I'm doing, just keep asking me every 5 minutes" charade.
I think we're on the same page here, the question is if it was all but a mere formality of waiting for a specific date, what was all this fuss about? From La Decision 2, to him finding himself in no man's land, with so much back and forth from all parties. It was weird to say the least.
Maybe all has been agreed in March and it’s just been Griezmann vying for publicity and attention?
Seems to be someone who thrives on it tbf.
The clause only activates in July so they're just waiting for it.
Griezmann isn't doing anything for attention ffs
Aren't Atletico losing money if Griezmann waits until a certain point? That would be a pretty big reason to out both Griezmann and Barcelona, try to force their hands and if they don't act, you just created a PR mess around them.
Why is the sun all over a "utd last gasp attempt" to sign him within the past half hour?
Why would they even bother making this up?
Clicks, ads, money.
He won’t fit at barca. Him, Messi and Suarez as a front 3 has no one to stretch sides.
Whats the legality on journos making footy transfer rumours up? Not that it could ever be proven.
I know if i had my own newspaper or i was a journo, i would only print when i have a good solid source and believe it to happen.
People would then say hey, this guy/paper is never wrong.
That will ultimately get me more clicks, ads and money in the long run no?
The Sun doesn't cater to fine folks like yourself who think properly. There's some imbeciles out there who enjoy their stuff and believe everything they say surprisingly.
Im assuming they're on the banned list at this point?
Yeah, they are on @KM's Blacklist on the transfer twitter thread but no harm on speaking about them elsewhere.
What are you on about here buddy? No need for the aggressive tone.
The poster wanted to know why there are still stories about “a decision” or links to other clubs or Barca’s dressing room not wanting him etc - if everything was already done and settled in March.
Obviously he has limited control over newspapers etc but he again, also tried doing the whole “la decision 2”, by all accounts. & Atletico were the ones who stopped him. So they’re obviously waiting until 01 July, no one has said otherwise. It’s also not out of the realm of probability that Griezmann is milking the attention a bit etc.
Don’t see what’s outlandish in saying that.
Fecking love how Atletico handled the attention seeking diva. No documentary and no transfer muppetery. Brilliant.
Would be nice if Filipe Luis joins us with him, a left wing with those two would have a lot of grit for the big games.
Muppets generate more clicks than normal people. Furthermore, muppets are more likely to click on pretty much any ad.
He will be fantastic for Barca
It wasn't aggressive tone, sorry if it came out that way.
People just judge footballers on things they don't really know about. You think Antoine Griezmann did that because he's looking for attention? If he wanted attention he'd go out in the streets of Madrid every day or get journalists to give him interviews... it's a bit weird hearing football fans talking about a player wanting the attention when journalists are writing about transfer rumours. Is he supposed to rush Barca into paying more so they don't have to wait until July and there are less rumours written about it? He's most likely not even aware of any of it.
I hate how people that dislike a player turn every single thing that player does into more reasons to dislike them, no matter how far fetched it is. Those people will call him an attention seeking diva for doing literally nothing and letting the rumours keep going, but if he came out and publicly talked about it he'd be called an attention seeking diva too.
Nah I’m with you, I’m not really those who subscribe to the rumor mill either. Or try and go on “how players should act or how they do act” etc. But I think with Griezmann it’s been fairly clear that he likes the attention. From his last “la decision” video, and even now - if stories are true, Atletico were the ones who put a stop to “la decision 2”.
I think even up until a few days ago Griezmann said something about the future again - like he doesn’t know where he’ll end up etc? Granted he hasn’t signed yet and I’d say maybe that’s why he doesn’t want to announce anything but then again, he’s already announced to the whole world that he’s leaving Atletico.
But in the end, you’re right of course. Like I said in my previous post, Griezmann has no control over the media. Its all mainly just speculation anyway. Maybe based on his past antics, but speculation and guessing nonetheless
Suarez is pretty much undroppable so not exactly sure of how and where he'll fit in. He'll definitely be an improvement on Coutinho but him and Suarez just doesn't feel like something that will work together.
I know it's a move that would probably not have happened but for not too dissimilar amounts of money, Hazard would be so much better an option than Griezmann.
When they desperately needed a goal at Anfield they had nothing but pacy wingers to bring on to change things. A shuffling at Barca upfront is very much needed imo so smart move to bring in world class and La Liga ready player instead of just players who know they'll be back ups and quickly lose their touch e.g Paco Alacaer and also the bonkers move to sign Prince Boateng in January.
It's a great deal if he replaces Suarez but I just don't know how and where he fits in. Him and Suarez in the same team doesn't look something that would work and it'll leave them with a huge lack of width.
Suarez all round game has declined lots last 18 months. You only have to look at a thread when Barca are playing and many slagging him off as the game is going on....and then he'll inevitably score.
I think he'll get phased out more now. He will be 33 halfway through next season so Barca need younger option particularly for later stages of CL.
Suarez scored the grand total of one champions league goal last season and that's with GOAT laying on the passes so certainly need another option who can be productive in that competition.
I absolutely agree with you and I'm one of those who has slagged off Suarez the most but he just seems a player who is guaranteed a spot irrespective of how poorly he's playing. I'm running on the assumption that his current undroppable status is maintained and then we're left with shoehorning both of them and Messi in a functional attack.
Anyone who thinks there is a slightest chance of Suarez being benched under Valverde is delusional. Maybe slightly more rest here and there, but he'll be an automatic starter in every important game. Their only hope is for him to somehow recapture his former form to an extent at least, and I don't think that will happen sadly.
Yup I don't see Suarez being benched which is why this signing isn't as good as it could have been imo.
It seems to me that the board is for some inexplicable reason absolutely hellbent on keeping Valverde and are now buying attractive players in order to appease their fanbase. Griezmann is obviously a great player, how he'll fit in remains to be seen.
This. Love it.
Off to Barça as everyone knew.
Looks like Barca players don't want him so I still doubt it's done I see him Hokding their shirt !
Hope Ed is not going all out for him as I think he would be another Alexis at age 29
I wish Ed is fully turned on by Mbappe and get him as a marquee signing
Yeah, it’s like the last three years never happened.
Imagine thinking Antoine Griezmann isn’t doing something for attention? The guy literally made a one hour documentary about having nothing to say!
The board was clearly willing to fire Valverde. He's staying because the dressing room wants him to stay.
Yeah, it’s a tad odd to get defensive when people call out Griezmann as an attention seeker, because going by the past couple years, he’s done exactly that. But no big deal, at least Atletico spared us all from another documentary
Greizmann - Suarez - Messi
Looks like the plan to me.
