Yes, I said so a few week's back. They are in just as bad a position as we are, if not worse.

I read on the Caf somewhere in the last few weeks that the entire Spanish league is in financial trouble, so this doesnt really surprise me

Despite the massive tv deals Barca and Real got they still need bank loans... It's a good thing Platini is targeting PL and the "economic doping" going on in England:wenger:

The TV company went bankrupt without paying the expected instalment on their TV contract. It'll get sorted out, meanwhile their cashflow is nothing like what they expected - hence another bankloan.

Ok, so with their financial problems, already signing Villa and looking to sign Fabregas, its a dead cert then that theyre not going after Ozil.

The dream lives!

They'd get bailed out by the Barca / Catalan Council if they were in any trouble......and if they were in trouble, the bank(s) would'nt loan them money....

storm in a tea cup. IMHO

About time they were brought to account.

How can Platini criticise the PL's rich owners for spending millions when Barca and Real are spending millions they don't even have?

You'd have though Real would have learned when they had to sell the training ground.

Valencia are the worst - supposedly hundreds of millions in the red.

Are the cash flow problems directly related to the TV company bankruptcy?
Nope, that one's coming down the track.
Probably less that 20m so far trapped in the TV deal.

They've got stage payments on old transfers (including Henry I think) due and after the treble the wagebill and bonuses went up more than the extra income generated. The wage bill was high again this season and revenue has probably gone down due to the problems in the Spanish economy as well as the "no treble" factor. They've got a couple of 20m+ tax bills to settle as well. It's possible that a couple of the private (low/no interest) loans are being recalled as well due to the economy.

The new president wants the debt situation to be more transparent so he's probably deliberately overstating the amount needed immediately. Throw on top of that the fact that like Madrid they like to have a "line of credit" in case any shopping opportunities come along and you want a nice loan to tap.

This is really a bad sign... if Barca can get into trouble financially after all that, any of us clubs with tons of debt can...

Be interesting to see a graph of their net assets vs Messi’s wealth over that period, I bet they’re the inverse of each other
