Are we a great club, or were we elevated by two great men in Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson.

We've only won league titles under 3 managers. Mangall, Busby and Ferguson.

We went many decades without a league title before Ferguson. The way the club is run at the moment we could easily go decades without another after Ferguson.

There's more to the great clubs than just titles and trophies.

We are a great club run by clowns and managed by a fool.

Yes. Why would winning the same amount of stuff under more managers change that? We're one of the most successful clubs in the world, with real history. We're a great club. We're just not very good at football at the moment.

You could apply the premise to other great clubs out there.

We're a great club. We're just in a bad cycle right now.

Would love to know who is a great club in England then?

Liverpool have went two decades without winning a title. Are they not a great club?

Is it better to win stuff under more managers?, because you say that like it’s a bad thing .

Yes. We just need some structural changes to make sure we remain great. We've had a club built around SAF and it is easier to change the structure than continue to change managers and hope a new Fergie comes along.

Yes indeed. A great club that has somehow lost its direction but we'll be back.

Op you’re letting Mourinho get to you. This is one of a handful of clubs which can be called great - don’t be blinded by the lowering of expectations around you. Will be stuck in the doldrums for the foreseeable future - yes but that doesn’t diminish what went before it - unless of course we’re fighting relegation for a number of years but even then it’ll take much longer sustained period than this for us to lose our great club tag.

For me this is an easy question to answer.

Great club - Yes

Current great team - No.

Some people have a hard time separating the two aspects of a club but to be considered a great club you need to look beyond any current situation.

I kind of get the OP.

Ferguson and Busby were going to be successful no matter which club they managed, in many ways it was our luck that they decided to take us on the ride with them rather than some other club.

Are we just an ordinary club who were managed by the two most unique managers/figures in football history?

Imagine that people supported only the greatest clubs. Football would be dead. It is alive because there are thousands of clubs out there with their own fan bases.

Basically, United are worth of supporting even we are not great(est).

Of course we're a great club. Big, historic, succesful, popular. We're in a rough period at the moment, but the good times will come again.

I do think the whole narrative about us being the "biggest club" on earth can safely die down now. Just because we're popular with casual fans in countries with big populations, doesn't mean we're a more important club than others. A lot of fairweather fans will probably migrate to the likes of City and PSG now.

Already been said but this is a stupid and unnecessary thread.

What's wrong with some of you?
