Argentina World Cup Discussion

yeah that’s all it’s been….
You are really making it sound like a long list. Have only seen them celebrating with other fans, including cabo verde. Just saw the video of the egyptian incident which i think you are refering to, and you can literally see egyptian fans throwing drinks upward in the video. But carry on with your narrative.

Yeah I’m proper weird me, calling out a fanbase notorious for racism and bigotry who in the past week have chucked beer at Muslims, goaded the Egyptian manager with an Israel flag and racially abused a YouTuber. I mean this World Cup has had the most timid friendly fans I’ve ever seen yet the Argentinan fanbase have still managed to have all these incidents.

You can find these scenes from almost every single nation at the world cup except for a couple ones, but it's always Argentina. Such an hypocrisy

It’s not a narrative, the world is aware of it. Expected reaction though... After all we saw what happened when French players called out Argentina players for their derogatory song after winning Copa America. We saw how Argentina responded to them. There just can’t be an acceptance of poor behaviour.

Yeah go on then, show me these scenes from other nations at this World Cup….

I mean Argentina does have a horrible history of racism and ethnic cleansing, and of course we know that their current players have said and done racist things. I don't doubt that some of their fans are racist. So I'm not a particular fan of them. But most of the above things are present with many other nations, too. If it's not Argentina fans and players singing dodgy songs about French players, it's a Paraguayan politician straight up abusing Mbappe.

So I think the main reason they are particularly hated now is just because they are winning too much. That is also the source of the conspiracy theories as well, you see it across sport, especially in the modern social media age. Anytime a team starts winning a lot, people will start saying that they are being helped by the governing bodies or the refs.

This of course makes no sense, because when Argentina get knocked out (and I think they will), those same people will go back to thinking everything is legit. Make that make sense, FFS. If it is rigged then it is all rigged, including for the team that you like, not just the team that you don't like.

But of course, it's not rigged, and people deep down know this, I think. Saying that it is rigged is a coping strategy when your team or your favourite player doesn't win. Because no one wants to hear that it is rigged when their team wins.

Quite frankly engaging with someone that openly express that doesn't like you, or hate you, just makes no sense.

Just as a side note, since I'm not optimist with the level of discussion that can be done here, there is no country without a history with racism and we certainly don't rank even near the top in such realm, not like it's a lesser evil because of that.

What has been a disease since almost day one it's the excess of tribalism and violence regarding crowds and everything regarding football.

I know we propably won’t get to win it. But these guys really feel the shirt they’re defending and that’s the most important thing to me

I agree, I wasn't singling Argentina out as especially unique when it comes to this.

FIFA just really highlighting their corruption this world cup. Its no secret they favour the big teams but Argentina definitely get the most favourable treatment out of anyone by a margin.

Insulting another member - you should have left the IQ insult off

This is just not true. If it is, please expand on this with actual facts (you cannot). This is just recent propaganda that has been spread in social media lately, not sure by whom, so that low IQ people (like yourself) repeat it.

Yeah it’s strange, and done so without any awareness of the irony.

Anyways, I enjoyed that match—team really has a never-say-die attitude. Wish my country’s team had that. Had me a bottle of a 2018 Malbec to celebrate. I hope Scaloni had some better ideas and get back to controlling the matches with more creativity and less complacency.

This is not social media. And stop with the insults, they don't make you big or clever. I won't post on this again because this is not what the the thread is about.

Any of the teams they have left to face are capable of not just beating but running right over the top of them if they continue to play as they have done in their last 2 games. They look stale, and I’m not quite sure what’s happened with guys like Alvarez, even allowing for a recent injury he’s still been poor. Watching them sliced open on the break numerous times by the likes of Cape Verde and Egypt doesn’t bode well for them facing Norway or England, heck even the Swiss have a great shot at sending them home.

Perhaps if the Swiss didn't have Manzambi injured, feel Colombia would have actually been a challenge

They’ve just scraped past a little island nation and Egypt, anyone has a chance. But yeah, Haaland would have a field day against that defence, and I’m sure Kane and the like would find similar. Not sure what’s happened to guys like McCallister but they look ill equipped in that midfield and even less so at the back. Di Maria is a huge miss for them!

Who do you think can trouble them from Switzerland?

Who do you think can trouble them from Switzerland?
Who did you think was going to trouble them from Cape Verde? You’d have probably struggled to name even one player from their starting entire squad let alone single somehow out who can cause them problems. People thought Colombia would give them a game, but Switzerland just eliminated Colombia so it doesn’t make sense to write Switzerland off as not having enough to cause them real problems. Particularly when Argentina just needed a 15 minute rescue job against Egypt in the previous game. If players from Serie B, Turkish and Cypriot leagues can cause them problems and take them extra time I see no reason why the likes of Embolo, Ndoye, Zakaria and Xhaka can’t do similar.

They'll need a lot of help to win it. They've not really looked anything special the entire tournament.
Not help but they’ll need others underperforming and individual brilliance from a 39 year old. Hard to see this team get past England and France if they beat Switzerland. There’s quite a gulf in quality this time around imo.

Could say the same about England in the last match. Theres potential to run them over as well if Mexico can score 2. Cape Verde looked a better team

It was exactly the same in the last World Cup. Favourable refereeing. They must of had a penalty every game since the start of the last World Cup as well. FIFA must be disbanded after this World Cup because it’s gone far enough and we need integrity back in football. I’d gladly see UEFA walk away from FIFA if that’s what’s required.

Messi may be the greatest of all time but the treatment of Argentina in the last 2 World Cups taints his career.

Must be fifa rigging it for Argentina to give France 2 pens in the 2022 final. Seriously you people need to think logically instead of emotionally, if im FIFA and i rig it for Argentina to win, France would receive 0 penalties

You can rig a game without making it blatantly obvious at every single decision

Then instead of 2 pens, give just 1 and dismiss the other for any questionable reason. Or maybe give 2 pens to argentina for any other dive.

Yeah definitely. First thing I would do to make it favourable for Argentina is ensure the opposition gets two penalties in the final.

they have the same flaws as in 2022., except they are slower and older this time. only in international football you can get away with playing like this for so long, and it's still barely enough for Egypt and Cape Verde.

I could see them containing Spain the way Portugal did, but both England and France would absolutely destroy them.

So you don’t think Argentina have been getting questionable decisions? They’ve had major help in this World Cup and the last from referees. The sheer number of penalties they’ve had. The game against the Netherlands. VAR has given them the opportunity to pick and choose when to call a foul so now match fixing is even easier to implement. You can choose to believe what you like but it’s obvious they want another France v Argentina final. It has the Mbappe v Messi story which the media lap up and pay huge bucks for advertising. Given the recent events with Trump and Infantino it shows the level of corruption at the very top of FIFA.

You can believe/say all you want but you cannot give me a reason why would france get 2 pens in the final if FIFA rigged it for Argentina to win. Why let them bring it to a flip the coin penalty shootout? If that is rigging, its failure of a rig

I genuinely don’t know how anyone not from Argentina can like the Argentina national team or its supporters or its players. Yeah I get everyone loves Messi but what a bunch of unrelenting cnuts these are.

At it again today, chucking beer at Egyptians, waving an Israeli flag. They seem to think being ignorant racist pricks is some form of sport. What a bunch of absolute cnuts.

You're not wrong.

Anyway, this is worth a watch.

Obviously not every foul is a card but Argentina are refereed differently compared to other teams. Whilst the Salah one at the end is nowhere near a penalty, would it be called the same way if it was an Argentine player who was 'fouled'? The Mac Alister one is the one I have the biggest issue with. It was quite clearly a foul and for it not to even be looked at? Give me a break.

You’d struggle to find one penalty that wasn’t legitimate. It’s just people who don’t like them for whatever reason getting angry again because they keep scraping past. All very petty in my opinion. I’ll guarantee people like yourself won’t apply the same forensic analysis and level of bias when your own teams win by hook or crook.

People are now in a rage because Egypt scored and it was pulled back for a foul, doesn’t matter that it was a clear foul though, because it’s Argentina and because it’s Messi it’s supposed to be ignored otherwise it’s all a big con. Similar to these oddities online calling for a VAR review of Salah just blatantly diving. It’s all a bit ridiculous now. If they wanted to rig it in 2022 you’d think they’d do better than allow to of their games (included the final) to go to the lottery of penalties.

Don't bother. It's the same people who would call Messi a loser and a bottler, despite everything he's achieved in his career, if Kolo Muani's shot had been a few centimeters to the right.

Lot of complaints of bias from Egypt fans, and many neutral fans too. I understand Egyptians' frustration but I saw nothing wrong in refree's decisions. Egypt couldn't defend two goals lead in last 10 mins and full marks to the grit Argentina showed. The half volley goal under immense pressure by Messi is one of the technically most difficult one to pull off.

Egypt was better for almost all the match. It is just that Argentina wanted the win more than them.

This video from up there sums it up pretty well in my opinion.

Argentina are allowed to play way too dirty, and rules are not applied consistently with them.
