Arne Slot | ex-Liverpool manager | The Bald sack watch is over

I don't think it's a coincidence that Salah, Robertson, Alisson and even Jones are all looking to leave while Slot stays.

He's lost the dressing room.

Yeah If Guardiola decided to stay at Bayern for another 5 years Klopp would have probably won 3-5 PL titles with Liverpool. That's why it's always stupid to judge accomplishments without any context/environment in which they happened.
The problem for Slot is not that Liverpool is 4th but that they play absolute dogshit football. Maybe he can turn it around next year but I would be sceptical.

Tangent, but this gets peddled a lot and I'm not sure it stands up to scrutiny. In his full seasons at Liverpool (discounting the first season in which he took over in October) Liverpool finished 4th, 4th, 2nd, 1st, 3rd, 2nd, 5th, and 3rd. There is not much objective evidence that I can see to support the idea that Klopp's LFC would have won any more than the two additional titles in the seasons when they finished 2nd.

Maybe they are keeping slot because no one that is an upgrade is available atm.
That's entirely possible. Everyone has just been taking it for granted that their board is rejecting Alonso in favor of Slot, as if he was begging to be given the job. Has there been any indication that this is actually the case? Because I could definitely see how Alonso might be hesitant to take over. At the end of the day, Liverpool have had a handful of years in the sun after decades adrift, and are now looking like they could drop right back down to where they were before Klopp. It'd be quite a gamble for Alonso who needs to build on the credentials he earned at Leverkusen, especially since he was sacked from Real Madrid in short order. If he goes to Liverpool and it doesn't work out, there will be big questions about his status.

Besides, I'm not aware that he has any more rapport with Liverpool than the fact that he played for them two decades ago. He's hardly Mr. Liverpool incarnate. Never heard him sing their praises or pine for a return. While they did win the CL during his time there, it was one bright spot in an otherwise dreary period for Liverpool, and he was in his early 20s at the time. Not much basis for the assumption that he dreams of managing Liverpool at a time when they're struggling again.

Yeah it’s wild.

On the same note United would have had 2 x European Cups in the cabinet had we not come up against arguably the best club side of all time (Barca).

Well, he seems interested in the Chelsea job. Its hard to imagine him deciding that he'd rather gamble on Chelsea as his next step than Liverpool.

I think the Occam's Razor explanation is that the higher-ups at Liverpool don't think Alonso is necessarily better than Slot and they've already got the latter in the house.

To be fair, they said 3-5 and you've said they'd probably have won 3?

Apologies, I misread; I thought he said 3-5 more titles. You are quite right, thank you for correcting me, and @fck I shall read more carefully in future!
For what it's worth I think you're right that three is probably about right for the amount they would win, especially given the style he played. I don't think it was capable of winning 3 or 4 on the trot.

I think I was just too eager to climb atop my "Klopp's LFC get overrated on here" soapbox. There is something about Gurning Jurgen that gets me easily riled me up. :D

Liverpool fans are going to be seething if Alonso goes to Chelsea, and they have to sack Slot in October.

Not too dismilar to what we did with ETH. Would be even better if they went on to get their version of Amorim.

I'm sure players can do it. But flying around Europe and all that involves (yes they may well be using private jets, etc) during match weeks is not ideal for the body. Yes you do it for European games but it's also not ideal - hence why players get rotated.

The fact Slott sees no issue with this is probably a problem itself.

Macallister is playing like a 50 year old, out of breath, then you realise he was swanning around Europe on holiday with his family a few days before hand doesn't help the narative.

Maybe his “asthma” has come back and he desperately needs his inhaler again…?

Why do you find it so difficult to fathom that they’ve had a shit season, hasn’t met expectations, been beaten 18 times in one season and the fans hates how he sets them up and the boring playing style?

I don't find it difficult to fathom, im fully aware of all that.

My point is that they've finished 1st and 4th yet there's a sense of entitlement.
Only brilliant, winning football with a characteristic manager will do.

Look at the season as a whole. It started with the tragic death of a popular player.
Imagine if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had been killed in a tragic accident in the summer of 98, do you still think we go on to win the treble?

The signings they have made haven't really worked. Isak hasn't been fit all season, Frimpong hasn't either. Wirtz has struggled, I think Kerkez has too. Ekitike has done well but has now suffered a potentially career changing injury.

Add that to a ageing, declining Salah, Robertson, Alisson. Its no surprise it's not gone well.

I think they're at the point where they'll look back and realise that finishing 4th with this squad was about the best they could do.

Look at the current squad, how many players are actually that good?
Soboslai maybe?

Slot is the fall guy, as most managers are.

You surely are a wum at this point

He is going nowhere. He won them a title last year. Pools fans are deluded.
It is solid 4th place against top "4" especially after Villa's good start.
If he finish next year in top3 he will stay. PL is competitive.

Have you considered the possibility that the fans might not want Alonso? I’m not especially keen on him myself, since 3-5-2 is dreadful to watch, but at least Alonso has shown he’s capable of adapting his system to suit the players he has — unlike Slot, who seems completely incapable of doing so, even though this squad is crying out for a 3-5-2.

I just want to be entertained. I dont give a feck if we get 8th or 1st, as long as the bald fraud fecks off with his style of play.

What have I said there that you disagree
with?
All of it. We are on 1.33 ppg the last 30. Chelsea losing 8 in row doesn't make us better.
And getting 1st and 4th was never the issue in the first place.
Some people want this joke of a sport to be watchable, once in a while.

Yes if you selectively pick the last 30 games. You are 4th after 36 games. That's the only stat that matters.

The Premier League has been the least watchable I can ever remember this season. Just look at who is on the brink of winning it.

Who are your good players apart from Dominik Szoboszlai? Who do you look at as someone to build a successful team around?

Everything you’ve posted there is correct, and I think provides him with enough cover to start next season. However, I also think he’s bang average and out of his depth.

As much as events have conspired against him this season, events conspired massively for him last season. A highly experienced team that had been together a long time and knew each other inside out. A back four that had been together years and didn’t need coaching. Almost no injuries all season. Salah having a worldie. A squad that had just had a hyper-intense manager for nearly a decade and probably just needed someone a bit more mellow for a few months. Title rivals being over-the-hill (City) and/or ravaged by injury.

It couldn’t have gone better for him. His only real move was to put Gravenberch as his deepest midfielder, then just started his best XI every week.

Now, he has to build his own defensive unit, he has to replace ageing stars and build a new attacking focus. Can he do it? In my opinion, absolutely not. I think he’ll be sacked before Xmas. Have all the mitigating factors you’ve highlighted for this season created enough doubt to keep him? Probably.

As a United fan, I’m delighted, because I think next season will be a write off for them too.

I'm just proving a point (I honestly dont give a feck if we win or not, im too old for that). If you go back to our first five matches of the season "every" united-fan complained about us being the most lucky team in the world, rightfully.

We have a good team. Unbalanced, but good. I said before this season that United would do better than expected, because you do as well. You've just been fecked over by a manger that made you look bad before carrick came in.

I really don't think you do.

The rest of your squad are either past it, can't stay fit or just not that good or suited to Premier League football. I would have added Ekitike by the way, but there's no telling what sort of player he'll look like after such a horrendous injury.

Szoboszlai isn't our best player. What makes you think he is? Apart from him being the only player doing good this season.
Casemiro was a joke for several seasons because of your managers. It doesn't make him a bad player.

You've not answered the question.

Who is your best player if it's not Szoboszlai? Who is the spine of a team that you can build around for success?

Why does there need to be white text?

It seems an odd way of spinning things to claim that it's Salah, Robertson and Alisson "looking to leave" and it's an indication that Slot's somehow "lost the dressing room".

In case you somehow hadn't noticed, the reality is Salah, Robertson and Alisson are all past their best and have fallen off an absolute cliff this season. Them leaving is because they are all finished at this level. It's nothing to do with Slot.

Curtis Jones is not used much either, so it's also no wonder he wants out.

If it was key stars in their prime wanting to leave already, eg Szoboslai, then maybe you'd question if he's lost the dressing room, but with the players you cite it's more them being pushed out by the club.

He had a wobble there for a while but I think that the strong finish to the season has given him the right to manage for another 4-5 season without question.

You were 4th when Amorim was sacked yet you've said you agree he should have been sacked.

Robbo I'll give you, although he's looked much better this year with more rest than he did last year. Alisson is injury prone but still really good when fit, Salah as I've argued all season has been used badly by Slot this season, but still has equal most goal contributions despite having a few spells out.

The important part is that they're three key leaders in the dressing room. Virgil has implied things aren't right multiple times too.

Wouldn't call Jones a leader but he is a local vocal (great rhyme) who's also wanted out since January. Combine that all and it's not a good look.

You were 4th when Amorim was sacked yet you've said you agree he should have been sacked.

6th, having finished 15th the season before and been outwitted by a 17th placed Ange Postecoglou in the Europa final.

If Amorim had finished 1st and 4th, I wouldn't have wanted him sacked!

Why do people keep making comparisons that are completely inaccurate or just plain wrong?
