Arne Slot | Liverpool manager | Bald sack watch

I don't think they'll sack him this season, the hierarchy are not without blame for the decline. Spending all that money on attacking players with a defence that weak coupled with extending Salah and van Dijk on huge contracts are decisions Man Utd would have made under Woodward. They will obviously go for Alonso in the summer, but pretty confident Slot will see out the season.

They signed two fullbacks!

They were apparently 13 games unbeaten before tonight.

That had to have been one of the worst long unbeaten runs ever

I can't see any chance Slot is manager of Liverpool next season, he's surely gone in the summer.

In the last 5 games, only Crystal Palace (2), Burnley (3) and Spurs (3) have picked up less points that Liverpool (4).

It’s not entirely his fault when senior players like Van Dijk, Salah and others are regularly having stinkers, but ultimately it’s the manager the sword falls on when things go like this.

The football we’re playing is trash and not suited to PL football at all.

He did well last season to keep things steady post Klopp, but as he’s put his stamp on things it’s become worse. We’ve been crap for almost a year now.

That’s also ignoring the summer investment which hasn’t gone well.

Next two league games are Newcastle and City at home. Hard to see us winning either of them.

Good decisions from the management can improve results just as quickly as bad decisions can have detrimental effects.

The lack of planning for the aging of Robertson, Salah, van Dijk while getting rid of the facilitators of the high-energy style (Diaz and Darwin (who might have been a donkey in front of goal but added a lot of intensity) specifically) that allowed Salah to be as passive defensively is looking like a series of really bad decisions now. Combine that with pushing on for Isak after securing Ekitike and blowing £120 odd million there was really dumb even without hindsight when that money needed to be spent elsewhere in the squad.

Looks to me like those in charge don't understand what made them so good over the last decade.

Funny how the league is generally trending towards more fast paced, direct "Klopp" type football, while Liverpool themselves under Slot are moving towards the kind of sterile, possession for its own sake type of game that is already becoming old hat.

Blaming conceding on having 10men temporarily.

You don't concede THREE to the might of Bournemouth by accident son.

He's the luckiest manager of all time.
Picked up a Klopp team that underachieved in his last season and had something to prove last season - and was able to ride the last season of its effective life - with a freak Salah season.

Now he's made real changes it's getting further and further away.

Nobody could have been prepared for the possibility that Joe "Phil Jones" Gomez might get injured, though.

He still has quite some way to go to match Klopp's excuses.

Especially that time we had 4 injuries in 30mins and Klopp said our injuries disrupted THEM!

Damn that bloody Amorim. Man conceded 4 against them
That's a different kettle of cheese entirely.
Poor manager, silly system, ineffective squad.

This is supposed champions that have had £600m spent on them in the summer.

Agreed, albeit the manager and system made that squad look much worse than they are, imo. But that’s a topic for another day/thread. I hope they hang on to Slot but all things are lining up for them to replace him with Alonso.

Probably, but there's no certainty he'll be any good. At least Slot is a PL champion.

Klopp had a few belters.

Pre-VAR, they scored a goal that should have been ruled out for offside, and he went off on the ref for "overcompensating" for his mistake in a 1-1 draw.

He blamed a poor result on being on BT Sport for an early kick-off.

He blamed a poor result on being on BT Sport, who he alleged had shortened the amount of added time from 10 to 4 minutes.

The pitch was once too muddy.

The pitch was once too dry.

The pitch once had snow on it.

They played a game and it was windy.

He is a dead man walking now with the Alonso shadow over him. He isn’t good enough and they will be looking for any excuse to make that change while he is available.

That would be the hope if they made the change.

Was infuriating that he did his little rant about us getting a lot of pens and after that it was near impossible for us to get one.

That was a period we had a lot of pacy players luring fouls. And all of the pens were correct, apart from one where Bruno trod on someone, fell over and he got the pen!

You forgot the one where the entire population of Plymouth was in the 18-yard box.

Did he say "Not for the first time this season we gave away hardly any chances, but we did give away a goal"?

Will be the first in ages if he didn't.

They'll replace him in the summer. I don't think they're daft enough to persist with something that isn't working in the ways we have with Ten Hag and Amorim, unfortunately.

They just look trash, the commentators must have been watching a different game because they were making out Bournmouth were hanging on after Liverpool equalised, but to my eyes it looked like Bournmouth were cutting through them really easily with some fairly average players.

People fret about it, but I don't think Alonso coming in would be some kind of guaranteed fix for their issues.

The bloke has one freak season in the Bundesliga on his CV, during which his team had about ten different injury time equalisers and winners. He'd probably do better than Slot is doing now, but I dunno if that's any kind of firm foundation for success.

Yep, we were all cursing when they missed an absolute sitter having waltzed through on a breakaway.

Just too perfect the way they then lost it later on.

Must be difficult for him mentally knowing that every mistake, every dropped point takes him that much closer to what the Liverpool fans really want - Alonso.

If I were him, I'd pull a Amorim and just say stuff about the board in my next presser and get the sack and enjoy my money. This isn't worth it.

Still can never understand how they messed up getting Guehi in the summer.

A bit more speed and £35 million could have got them a player they are absolutely desperate for now.

No doubt in the summer they'll end up playing twice as much for an inferior player.

Xabi to come in with Salah and VVD have fully dropped off and they already needed a couple of CBs, a six and someone to challenge Salah on the right?

We better get used to Lego Pep being victorious!

Top notch trolling from Sky Sports on their site  "Slot: We only have ourselves to blame - plus wind, fixtures & injuries"
