Arne Slot | Liverpool manager | Bald sack watch

Carragher talking about a lack of physicality. Shades of how I felt under ETH. Happy days.

Tidy when it doesn't matter. Teams let us play now, once they start pressuring when we move forward, our passing is sloppy.
Yep. Perfect example of how you can dictate a game without possession. Let pool have the ball as they recycle it and, step highwr up the pitch and inevitably make a mistake, and then you hit them on the counter, where they are disorganised and now lack recovery pace.

Van Dijk is going to be a massive issue next year. I think the legs have totally gone. He won’t take well to being phased out but the next manager will need too.

They could probably do with a whole new back line, although that’s never going to happen.

Midfield apart from Slobo is average. Mac Allister looks finished physically. Gravenberch might recover form next season though.

Wirtz will never come close to being worth the money, their best attacker this season will be injured most of next, 130m Isak can’t stay fit.

Other than Rio Ngumoha breaking through there’s not much to get excited about.

Slot might go in the summer, but whoever was in charge of recruitment / squad building should be too. Shambles.

Said in the other thread, if Liverpool dont dump this fraud for Xabi Alonso in the summer they're insane

I agree with all of this. Another signing who was really bizarre in my view was Frimpong.

Obviously much less costly than the others but it's not at all clear where he fits in their side.

To be fair, next season they might be tempted to try a back three. If they sign a couple more centre backs, I could see something like this working a bit better:

Alisson

Konate
Van Dijk
New CB

Frimpong
Gravenberch
Szoboszlai
Kerkez

Wirtz
Isak
Ekitike

This would apply even more if they do decide to bin off Slot for Alonso. A big downside, though, is that it'd arguably blunt their most effective player this season in Szoboszlai. Not sure playing him in a double pivot will get the most out of him.

Please stay Arne. Need you next season for another 6 points you lucky basterd.

Wonder why he didn't use his tactics from the 3-0 early win at OT back in August 2024 when he came out post match and acted as if he was a tactical genius.

I think it’s the mgr not so much the players. Two years ago Bruno and Casemiro were getting roasted by teams and supporters. We know they’re better than that just as we know these Liverpool players are better than this. There was no plan at all today and at this point there isn’t going to be a plan with Slot in my opinion. We show flashes of what we were but he doesn’t seem to have a system in place that works, so it’s time to go sooner than later. Get someone in that we want before they go elsewhere and finish out this miserable season, and then come back next season and win it.

Not in favour of any particular formation, but I don't think blunting Szobo should really be a worry.

He's been by quite a distance our player of the season. At the same time though, I think a player of his level being our best player is a good sign of just how far we've dropped this season. Outside of set pieces, I don't think he's really been an improvement on last year, and yet he was what? At best our 6th most important player and definitely the least important of the midfield.

He's a good player but it's like when Ander Herrera won your player of the year. Deserved, but not the level of player you want to build a team around.

If they’re want to challenge for the league that team is nowhere near enough, and there is no depth behind it. Konate allegedly wants VVD money so probably 2x CBs needed. The wing backs not good enough and that midfield will get ran over. That front is lightweight and don’t complement each other. They need squad depth and minimum 3 first teamers. Allison might be off too?

They need another 250-300m splurge, which is shocking considering the spend last summer. Somehow a squad that strolled to the title and had half a billion near enough spent on it got worse.

I’ve just seen his post match interview on match of the day and he said they controlled the entire game.
Bald prick is on crack.
Think he may be referring to possession Liverpool had. 61 or 62%

It's my pet peeve that we don't control games but we seem to have done a lot with just about 32% possession.

They just moved the ball in midfield when I saw the first half. Waste of possession and control.

Replacing a dutch fraud with a new hipster Iberian manager who likes playing back 3, where have we heard that before. What could possibly go wrong

He is such a victim in his interviews.

VAR is always agaisnt them, one mistake and it's a goal against, loads of chances but they don't score, Virtually every game he says the same thing.

The longer he stays a Liverpool the better, he is such an excuse merchant, even though he tries so hard not to sound like one.

Will never forget this guys gloating after beating us. "Their full-backs are sometimes really high and then Casemiro comes in between [the centre-backs]," explained Slot. "So if you pick the ball and you keep Luis Diaz and Mo Salah high you're constantly in a one-v-one situation."
He talked like he was the second coming. The schadenfreude is just too delicious seeing him humbled.

Yea, was a bad look for him that.

Thought his team looked exceptionally meek today. Hope he is there next season.

I just saw the interview, what a whinger

It's really not a good look. He should be embarrassed to come out with that after the shitshow he's presided over this season.

He was proper angry about it as well, the most wound up and emotional I've seen him so far I think.

I'd be worried if I was a Liverpool fan, as it's a sure sign he has no idea how to fix the problem.

Give the man another season. This season is just a blip. Another 500m transfer season will make the difference.

We’re going to be so far behind if he gets another summer and starts next season in charge.

18 losses in all competitions.

Slot was the founding member of RAWK.

Love how he said they were in control the whole game, despite the xG, the performance and being second best.

Your 3421 here is exactly the formation Leverkusen and Frankfurt used last season. That's what Wirtz, Ekitike and Frimpong were used to play and when they were signed I naturally expected Liverpool to move in that direction as well, reducing the reliance on Salah.

However Salah really doesn't fit that, did stay and still is one of their most important players. It just doesn't fit together what they did last summer and it shows.

Possibly the worst case scenario for Liverpool would be to keep him around for next season, which could lead to a mid-season sacking, where it's super difficult to get the right person in. Hope that happens. Think he's been found out.

This is a hilarious situation ngl, they don't want to sack him because it would be very non Liverpool like to sack a manager so quickly even though every single thing points to the fact that he should be sacked. This is basically the Ten Hag situation multiplied by the fact that Slot won the league. If they keep him then the first loss they have next season the knives will be out.

Whatever about the 2 games vs PSG, (no shame in losing to them at the moment in fairness whoever you are) the 11 league defeats is a crazy stat coming off the back of winning the league. Plus the admission from the captain they gave up in the FA Cup semi vs City.

Plus Spurs under Tudor got a point off them which is almost as bad.

They are currently 1 loss away and a few points away from having a lower tally than we did under Moyes. Top 5 getting CL spots has made things less critical though (for Villa as well).

Arne Slot you have one message from: Mciahel Jackson
"feck you baldy, hee hee"

Is he forgetting the 5cm rule that was applied for Wirtz and only Wirtz. Then there was the clear and obvious handball against Palace (?) where the arm was straight up in the air.

Bitter bald cnut.

It's not guaranteed Xabi Alonso would be a success but I'd rather they keep Slot. Like they kept Rodgers after 14/15 season. Just without him being replaced by Klopp level of manager or Klopp himself.

If I was a Liverpool fan, it would feck up my whole World Cup summer vibe knowing they were sticking with Slot and going into next season almost knowingly making a massive mistake.

I'd be fuming.
Similar to how I felt keeping Ten Hag after the FA Cup win (the one game we performed well under him for a long time) and Amorim after the Europa loss. You just know how it's going to go.

Yes, all very depressing.

Still, at least the lads all had a nice few days off during the week again so Arne could feck off back home to the Netherlands again. @B20
