Arsenal 2026/27

I think the squad is fine. Hold off now and hope that we can catch a world class forward in Jan or next summer.

We have depth in every position, it’s top level attacking quality we need, ideally on the left wing. If that player isn’t available this summer, try again next window.

Vinicious was there for the taking... However Arsenal hoped he would fall off with RM over contract negotiations and they could make a bid last few days of the marked and get a bargain. The opnion on Vini is very divided in Madrid. If Arsenals approuch was aggressive and they really wanted him he was there for the talking. A record PL bid could have done the trick.

Same with Alvarez. So much talk and no action.

I think your being quite harsh. In both cases it's not about convincing the club to sell, it's convincing the player to come. And in this case, your talking about South American players preferring Madrid and Barcelona, which is nearly always the case for South American players especially.

I think you could criticise the club more for losing out on Morgan Rogers or Barcola, but again you'd have to ask if they are worth the money that was paid out for them.

I think at this stage, there's a couple of names I wouldn't hate. 1 would be a loan for Rashford, just because he's always intrigued me, and he wouldn't block a potential move down the line.

Another would be a younger player like Malick Fofana that you could take a chance on for a reasonable fee and wages, that if it didn't work you could still easily flip, and again he wouldn't block an elite player down the line.

I am also intrigued by Ndiaye, but his fee and age might block any potential deal down the line, and he's already at his peak.
 
We want to pay £25+5m apparently and Lyon need to sell due to financial issues. He's on 45k a week atm, so imagine we'd offer 70k.

For those numbers, not a bad deal, would offer depth and pace. The issue is if/when we start to offer wages of 90-100k where it becomes very hard to shift him if needed. Low wages and it's a good opportunity and means we can loan Nwaneri.

He was quite a highly rated young winger who's development stalled a bit last year by injuries. He first caught my eye when him and Cherki ran my Scottish team Rangers ragged in a European game.

For the reasons I have already said, I think it's a sensible transfer. He has talent that could blow up, but if he doesn't then its is a fee and already has a good reputation that it shouldn't be too hard to flip (I think he already rejected a move to Hull this window, and Palace and Sunderland are interested too).

Keeps our powder dry to still try and get that elite signing in future windows.

I think the truth is much simpler. It’s his dream to play for Real Madrid, as it is for many players (particularly from South America). Real initially said they weren’t budging on their offer. Had that remained the case, Arsenal were an attractive alternative. But both Real and Vini gave some ground in the negotiations and so he stayed.

Arsenal being more “aggressive” would have made no difference. He was happy with what we offered but preferred to stay in Madrid.
 
Would be a good move, cheap, low wages. If it doesn't work out, a fast tricky winger will always have a good value while we look for someone with a bigger profile.

I understand your point of view. Arsenal is not like other PL clubs that throws around money. I think if it was Chelsea or United they would have bid 150 million euros and convinced Vinicious.
He was there for the taking. I think if a big offer had come Real might not have offered him more money and offloaded him.
 
Yeah Fofana is a good player, that would be a good bit of business by Arsenal.
 
Often horrible to watch, but even with injuires they look so much better defensively than the other top teams in the league.

Dull as dishwater to watch but incredibly solid and ridiculous strength in depth in defence and midfield. Clean sheets are worth a lot of points and the other top sides just aren't there. Never get you out if your seat though
 
Big opportunity for Nwaneri going on loan to Dortmund.
They know a thhing or two about developing youth and this could be a double chance for him to impress. Have a good season and get a bigger chance to stay at Arsenal next season or earn a move to a good club.

Na, I think we are done. Seem some in the club had reservations about Fofana so didn't want to pursue at the price Lyon was looking for.

So now summer business for the attack is Martinelli, Jesus, Trossard, Nelson and Nwaneri out with Tzolis in.

Big gamble but yeah, looks like we'll see Eze from the left more often this season.

Its still nine players for four attacking positions, so not really short but still walking a line.

Part of the calculation may be that Dowman is likely to play a bit more this year and then every year going forward the club hopes Dowman and Nwaneri will play bigger roles either on the wing or attacking midfield.
 
Crazy summer. I would never have guessed this would have been our summer business. City and Chelsea have made decent steps forward. Chelsea are going to be a bit better under Alonso. I dont think they will quite challenge but they might get quite a bit closer. City should be there. Losing Rodri and Pep hurts but they have made some good additions, like Ndiaye and Fernande, assuming that one goes through. Pool's defensive signing I think are going to fall short.
 
Other than Tzolis as Trossard replacement, I am quite surprised Arsenal couldn't improve the attack, especially the left wing this summer,.

Honestly even Vini was getting absurdly expensive.
125m/150m transfer fees
800k in wages/bonuses
add agent fees and it's close to 70m pounds/year for amortization+salary for Vini.
We would then run into similar issues that Madrid are in then.
Saka/Rice renewals would become absurdly expensive.

Also Vini runs hot-and-cold and with Arteta it was always a disaster waiting to happen.

I couldn't believe the lengths we went for him based on what Orny said.
 
I didn’t have a problem with us loaning Nwaneri when I thought we were signing Fofana. In fact I was pleased.

Now… I am not very pleased.

Surely he doesn't get much of a look-in with Saka/Madueke, Tzolis/Eze, Havertz/Gyokeres, Odegaard/Merino? Plus Dowman. Probably best for him to go on loan.

I think it's good for him (and Arsenal) regardless of whether you signed Fofana or not. He was going to be feeding off scraps for minutes anyway so might as well go somewhere and get 2000+ minutes under his belt than sit around Colney hoping Arteta throws him a bone every now and again.
 
Arteta decided not to pursue Fofana in the end. So he said yes to Sunderland, then made a U-turn when Palace offered more money and Sage talked to him.
Only for Sunderland to come back in offering even more money to his agents (his uncle) :lol:
Glad we stayed well clear of this clown show. (We're going to sign him for 50M at 22:59)

Nothing wrong to take the best financial package offered to him.
 
The Dortmund loan is in my opinion a good place for Nwaneri, but we are distinctly weaker in attack compared to last season. And every stat showed our attack was the problem. My fear has kinda materialized here.

Minus Nwaneri, Jesus, Martinelli and most importantly Trossard. In comes Tzolis..who has looked good until yesterday where he looked like the worst player on the pitch. So that is far from a certain thing. Neither is Eze who last year didnt particularly look good when he did play there. And we still have Havertz upfront....and that's hit and miss. Bert and Arteta got themselves into trouble here potentially.

Still hoping for a last minute announcement.

This summer one of the objective is to improve the quality of attack in left wing. Trossard was sold, Martinelli is pushed out, and brought in Tzolis to replace them both. Whether it is an improvement in terms of quality and depth, we shall see.

Yep, done and dusted. Shame, I thought we were one great signing away from winning the league with relative comfort. It will be nail biters for us fans most of the games in terms of picking up the 3 points. And for the other fans...probably best you not watch us play.

Attack was their major weakness, and you can argue they've somehow weakened their attacking options by letting go of Jesus, Martinelli and Trossard and replacing them with just one player in Tzolis?

They'll still win the league as teams find it impossible to score against them and it's incredibly annoying and boring. But still, a very strange window.

Strange summer indeed. We've managed to strengthen oir 2 strongest areas, defence and midfield, and weaken our weakest area which is attack.

Some feat that, I wonder if Berta is under a bit of pressure now.

Absolutely, every transfer the player gives his word to multiple clubs, switches his destination every hour giving no informations of his whereabouts while his uncle negotiate the biggest commission he can get for himself. Even Odemwinge had more etiquette.
