More shambolic defending.

On the other side, Tzolis has very good end product and decision making, not a lot of 1vs1 ability though. Odegaard looked great too.
 
What happened to Odegaard, subbed after half an hour.

Well we have extra coverage in midfield with Bruno coming in, so LB will be an additional slot for him to get match time.

We havent lost Saliba for that long. They said roughly 4 months from the Spain game...that puts him at November at worst.

How can last season be irrelevant? I dont understand. Teams are not exactly "new" at the start of a season. You address the biggest deficiencies in the squad from the previous season. Just because attacking players are expensive, you dont get to ignore them, and wish them away.

I'm not on the windup here... what exactly seems obvious to you? No one is saying we shouldn't strengthen our front line. We pursued Vini first as that was the most time sensitive situation. We'll now go down the target list, just as we did last season.

So what exactly is your point?

MLS is not a LB, he was awful there for most the season. He doesn't need match time at LB, because he's not good there, he's a liability there, he is a midfielder. It should not even be an option or something we plan for, it's a plan C.

Saliba's back is wrecked, he might be out for ages, just like we thought Timber was coming back and ended up out for months and months.

It's irrelevent as things have changed since last season.
 
Tzolis seems good.

Not capable of Taking a player on from standstill from what I have seen but his end product seems good. Good Onetouch passing. Silky player. Very similar to Trossard but have also seen some glimpses of Cazorla from wing.

Liked what I have seen till now. Hope this translates in EPL aswell.

Yh really efficient player, won't dribble past lots of players but will be smart.

Salmons looks good too tbf, and Nwaneri much better than the other games.

Gyok seems even slower..

Yep, if he's competing with a marquee signing on the wing, we'll be in a good place.

There have been links to Yildiz, which I would be very much in favour of. I thought that door was closed when he recently signed a new deal (and that may well be the case). But I'd love us to sign him if there's an opportunity to do so.

Also, Havertz has played the entirety of pre-season in midfield, so there would be room to sign Alvarez as well and keep Havertz and Gyokeres as Arteta recently said we will in a post-game interview.

Nwaneri was definitely a lot more promising in this one. Not perfect, but definitely in the right direction. Tzol looks good.

I would read nothing into that, we don't have Rice, Zubi or Bruno G, Havertz has to play in midfield as we have nobody else.

Would love Yildiz, again not sure he's a winger but still.

It's just.. we literally have 5 fit defenders right now, with no timeline on Timber or Saliba coming back from quite bad/long term injuries. I find it absolutely bonkers to think we don't need another defender :nervous:

He's a look, younger more agile version of Trossard. Looks like he will get his fair share of goals in this team. Smart signing.

No worries mate. I think the 5 defender thing sounds worse than it is. We have emergency options. I am still feeling rough about this season, but we will see.

Seeing some positives from today. Can't believe Vieira is out there.

But you can't go into the season using your emergency options off the bat, again I find that a bonkers thought and you're asking for disaster.

The emergency options should be if Timber/Saliba can't get fit again this season.

Yup, praying I am wrong! Im not really that concerned with the start to the season, you rarely lose a league challenge that quickly and we are overall too good to fall too far back but I am concerned whether or not we will be in good shape by the end of it.

Top 3 midfielders, top defender, top GK and top forward, so can't really read too much into it.

Raya, Timber, Saliba, Zubimendi, Rice, Bruno G, Merino, Eze, Saka, Madueke all to come back still, and likely a couple new players too.

Gyokeres is garbage. They need to upgrade on him. LW is another problem area.

They should be looking to develop their attack because I don’t think they’ll get the same number of set piece goals this season.

Younger more agile Trossard…
If that holds true then he is almost starter quality.
If he ends up being actually that then this is a very good signing.

But too early to judge… Initial impression are good. Feel more confident about him than Gyok or Noni even after a season.

Actually all our attackers are garbage except for a fit Saka. Noni Jesus Havertz Gyok Martinelli all are below par if not outright garbage.

Odegaard and Eze are also in suspect category this season.
 
I have an eye on Tzolis as an FPL punt. 22 goals and 29 assists in any league is bonkers. Surely he has an opportunity at Arsenal to get in that first eleven and stay there.

They really lack a true difference maker up front, unless Saka can find some of the form he had in previous seasons. It's a bunch of good, but not great players. Their challenge for the league will be based on a superior defense and midfield again, and it could well be enough.

There was one point where the ball came into his feet and the commentators said Gyokeres.... showing his strength here.... followed by the defender holding him off and stealing the ball off him easily... which they didn't mention for some reason :wenger:

Gyokeres was putting up insane numbers in a weak league too to be fair.

I do think Arsenal are unlucky that there doesn't seem to be a great deal of proven left wing talent or proven striker talent on the market.

The level of talent we need “world-class” rarely ever moves.
Kvara Olise Haaland when they moved were nothing more than prodigy. Similar to Salah,
, Mane, Hazard before who came good.
But there are many that dont like Wirtz, Sesko?, Doku, Havertz, Mudryk, (whole of Chelsea) while they are still good players they aren’t world beaters.

We need to make up our mind and take a punt on few and not the ones that have failed elsewhere like Noni, Havertz but ones that are still looking for a stepup. We have done that with Tozils other are Nusa, Godts etc.
(Unless berta can pull Yildiz off)

If y’all sell Enzo and make us a big offer, it’s probably doable. I’m sure Alonso would like him. I’d like him to stay, but he’s potentially fourth choice for our pivot, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for him to want out.

I’ve seen £77m reported. Seeing how crazy prices have become, I’d want more than that.

What's funny is when I saw the £77m fee I was immediately put off :lol:

I was alright with the idea of going for Zubimendi but when I saw the potential fee, I grimaced.

With the amount of money y’all have extracted from our club over the years, it’s the least you could do. £25m more than Madueke for someone who just won the Premier League and World Cup over the summer. Absolute bargain.

I'm alright with paying £77m for Wharton, and Zubimendi is bit better than Wharton right now, so I think my problem is more to to with giving Arsenal £77m than it is paying that for Zubimendi.
