Arsenal 2026/27

I'm alright with paying £77m for Wharton, and Zubimendi is bit better than Wharton right now, so I think my problem is more to to with giving Arsenal £77m than it is paying that for Zubimendi.
What is this I'm seeing about Pedro Neto?!? For 70m?!?

I'd honestly rather sign nobody, keep Nwaneri as backup to Odegaard and shift Eze to LW.

 I called it weeks ago at the height of the Vini drama. I know your club too well.

Except you said we’ll “sign Konsa and Neto and like it.” Somehow it might end up even worse and there’s a possibility we sign Romero and Neto.

It doesn’t bear thinking about.

I think they'll settle for Neto when the Vini hype eventually dies down and Barcola is off the market.

80m Neto to Arsenal.

Barcola isn't officially off the market yet but looks like Arteta needs his annual fix of mid Chelsea players ;)

I’m generally glad that Arsenal tend to ignore their fanbase when it comes to transfers. Havertz and Jorginho were both good signings. Madueke was overpriced, but anything that prevents us from running Saka into the ground is helpful.

But if we sign Neto, pitchforks will be out. Especially if we sell Martinelli to make space for him. They’re pretty much the same player - electric pace with head down running. But at least Martinelli is one of us. Neto has no redeeming qualities.

Not sure Neto has electric pace

I'm trying to imagine the reaction of Arsenal fans when Arteta lines up with a £190m ex Chelsea front 3 of Neto Havertz Madueke.

I've seen where the link today has come from and it's not a reliable one, but Arsenal fans are still having a meltdown regardless

I was so hoping City would sign him if anything, I really don't want Neto. And I was someone that didn't mind the signing of Madueke for being Saka rotation for a couple of seasons.

Same. The Madueke hate from our fanbase was a little embarrassing, tbh. However, this would be a mistake. I’m really hoping it’s just muppet season rumours.

I mean there are plenty of legitimate aspersions to cast at Neto but questioning his pace is silly. He had the 7th fastest sprint of any player in the league last season.

Do you have the list of the fastest sprinters in the league?

If y’all sell Enzo and make us a big offer, it’s probably doable. I’m sure Alonso would like him. I’d like him to stay, but he’s potentially fourth choice for our pivot, so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility for him to want out.

I’ve seen £77m reported. Seeing how crazy prices have become, I’d want more than that.

Last season was odd. He basically played every single game from what September-April. Then Arteta seemingly realised he could barely even walk anymore from mass overplaying and suddenly put in Lewis Skelly for the big CL games after many months of bench warming.

It's all about managing the squad first half of the season. Only 5 games and one CL match up to the middle of October so Rice should be eased in so Zubimendi can get some starts with Bruno G I think.

Also I slightly misread it, he had the 8th fastest sprint in the league but two of them were by the same player so hence he was 7th fastest.

Fair maybe just different definitions of electric. Mbuemo, Elanga, Udogie for me aren't electric pace. They're quick but, I see electric as pace is a freak asset of theirs, Mbappe, Henry, Spence, Walcott etc

Spence fair, can't say much on the Wolves guy but he must be rapid.

I only say this as if Neto actually was electric pace, and two footed and a bit more technical than Martinelli, then it would slighlty peak my interest, but not for anywhere near 70m

He’s all these things… but like Martinelli he doesn’t get his head up so there’s very little end product. Less than Martinelli, in fact. I’d say he’s a downgrade.

Not sure why they wouldn’t go in for Rashford if they’re interested in Neto. Puzzling as they’ve wanted Rashford before.

Stop trying to flog him off. He has a shiny new number and is ready to fight* for you !

*Terms and conditions apply. Readiness to fight, play or do anything useful may vary.

I think the Neto story is nonsense.

Arsenal are clearly trying to get their forward line to the levels of their midfield and defense, looking at the Vini and Rogers targets. Bloating the squad with average players like Neto is not helpful anymore, even as depth options.

I can see Arsenal not doing any business or committing to loan deals for players like Rashford or Leao until the market presents a good opportunity in future.

Mbeumo’s top speed is genuinely surprising. I mean he’s not slow but he’s never struck me as massively quick either.
I remember a story from years ago that Gary Pallister used to win the 100m sprints at Utd. Despite having players like kanchelskis in the team, who was the definition of rapid.
Just shows the most important attribute 95% of the time is acceleration and not actual top speed. If you can get to 30kph a second quicker than your opponent, you are ahead of them and they can’t do anything.

I definitely agree that there has to be a distinction made - especially for taller players and/or those who need a beat to get moving (would put Mbuemo in this category). I think it's also worth mentioning that large physical players who can tussle with the opposition and do more to stop them getting up to speed whilst also accelerating are hugely valuable - Erling Haaland in a nutshell.

That said, I don't think that any of these caveats apply to Neto - who has a very quick first step and also an evidently very high top speed. Physically he has all the tools to be a top top player in my opinion - but he seems to have a weird mental block about being aggressive on the ball

Agree with all of this. Haaland seems to be able accelerate faster than his marker despite simultaneously grappling with him.
Neto is an odd one. He’s not untalented in a way you could argue someone like adama traore is and he should be better than he is, just seems to lack something.

Think Rashford will take a pay cut tbh, he knows his next contract will not be as big no matter where he goes.
I actually agree with this, I could see him looking around at the end of the season and still no one being interested. He'll probably end up having to accept something around 175K-200K on his next contract, just depends on who will be interested. If he wants more he'll have to accept playing in Saudi, and I don't think he will until after the next WC

Depressingly this makes me think it's more likely we'll sign him. Another Chelsea project player who Arteta thinks he can fix

If we're really trying to sell Martinelli i'd like us to fight PSG for Godts. Only 60M would be a steal with this summer's prices.

Neto is classic big fish in a small pond player, we’ve seen this so many times in football where some of them just can’t make the step up when they move to the biggest clubs. Was very good at Wolves, been almost diabolical at Chelsea IMO and it’s quite incredible he’s even being linked with teams like Arsenal and City for the prices being thrown around.

Good game.

Standout performance from Tzolis. Big boots to fill that are Trossard's. He played with a smile on his face and really grew into the game. I hope he can take on the RB a bit more. But he was everywhere we wanted him to be.

It's also a very surreal feeling when our defense does get beaten that Raya is just aways there, ready to make those critical saves. I wonder where he now ranks in terms of the best GKs (Current).

Just a friendly but putting 3 past city with nil in response always feels good regardless.

Was a pretty decent performance. This game always feels a bit more than a friendly. Tzolis was really good and I thought Odegaard grew into as well. If our captain regains some form this year, it will make things a lot easier. There are some signs of it happening.

Early days but I love Tzolis and we looked really good, and we looked fecking awful in preseason. I think if we can start well while everyone else might be settling with new managers then we'll be set up well.

Just need to find a CB who can also cover right back before the end of transfer window as Kiwior replacement, then the squad is complete for this season. Still need to find a club for Jesus and Vieria.

You must have been hoping for a lot more in attack than just replacing Trossard with an unproven prospect from the Belgian league?

I still think you'll win the league mind as you're almost guaranteed to have the best defensive record and maybe things go your way in that your attackers and 10s find a better version of themselves than they shown last season.

Also the competition isn't very strong.

Well we surely expected a Bigger Name for LW. Which we still do.
But Tzolis seems to be a very good signing. His numbers in the belgian league are insane. Generally they don’t translate well to EPL but even if he can get half of what he did we have monster at our hands. Early signs suggest that his price does not reflect his quality and we may have found a bargain.

I'm sceptical of anyone coming from weak leagues after Gyokeres looked like the most fearsome goalscorer in Europe after Haaland, and he came to the PL and delivered a non-penalty goal every 203 minutes.

I'd have thought you'd have been hoping for big upgrades at both left wing and centre forward. Though I will accept the obvious proven talent on the market doesn't seem to be there.

Unless a right offer for both Martinelli and Arsenal comes otherwise he will stay. Then there are 2 players for the left wing already. I think it will be very hard to find a replacement or an upgrade this late in the window.

We've defo so far failed to land our main targets for either position, and they seem to have been Rogers / Vini Jr and Alvarez. We probably would have looked at Barcola as an alternative but have either deemed him too expensive or too far down the line with Liverpool.

So yeah, for that reason it is disappointing to be honest. I was very positive about the Tzolis signing despite many being slavery sceptical about it, but I did / do really hope for an upgrade on Martinelli as well at the very least.

I do appreciate that top class options for both positions are limited mind you.
