At this stage would you be satisfied with another domestic cup, a 7th place finish and 62 points?

Mindful that we still have tougher tests to come, I am already starting to recalibrate my expectations for the season.

At this stage if you offered me another domestic cup and 7th place with circa 62 points, I would actually bite your hand off. Whilst that would only be two points more than we won last season, at this stage any progress is surely be better than nothing.

Thoughts?

If it’s with a new manager, yes as it could be acceptable if they’re new. Not with ten Hag, no. Because that’ll mean his mediocrity continues to get rewarded at this club.

feck no. I want Champions League football over another tin pot cup. You want to throw in the towel after 5 games in and write off a season? Get him the feck out and get in anyone even half decent and let’s have a good go at getting the 4th/5th spot and winning the Europa league.

No. Squad is way better than that. We have a 75-80 pts squad

Couldn't care less about a cup, I just want a season where I can look forward to watching our games again.

A repeat of last season (it's already looking worse) would be terrible.

Why are the numbers in the topic and the title different? Are you bargaining with yourself while you type?

I bid 5th place and 64 points by the way.

9th place and a Europa League win with a new manager would do me.

If we were playing super fun football then yes. As it would point to better times ahead.

We aren’t winning the league so your question is more do we want nothing and CL qualification or a cup.

7th and the EL - definitely
7th and FA - probably
7th and Carabao - nope
7th and intertoto - jackpot

No chance. Domestic cup is nice to have but not at the expense of doing so poorly in thr league, especially if it means we have to watch this crap every week.

feck no, what are we talking about?

Thist is what I'm talking about with people being so willing to just write off entire seasons.

Why even bother with the league at all if winning a league cup is more important? Why not do the bare minimum to finish 17th and go full strength in the cups?

That thread last season where a few people were claiming we had a better season than Arsenal was a laugh. As if Manchester United can just brush 8th under the rug like it's irrelevant. We should be valuing competing for titles above all else.

Depends who replaces Ten Bag. If it's an interim, then I won't have any expectations and would just try to get through it.

If a good manager is brought in then I'd want to see progress in the football first of all. I'd give them leeway and accept 6th with good football within time and some convincing displays, providing were not miles away from 4th. Can give or take the cups but I do think we should be looking to win the EL this year. We're the best team in there.

If the unthinkable happens and this conman is still around, then I'd expect him to put his money where his mouth is. Great football, top 4 finish and win the EL. All reasonable given the squad and the amount of time he's had. Anything less and he is gone in summer. This shouldn't happen though, he should be gone by next week.

Thread being made in September with 96 points left to play for.

That’s what dire management causes.

No, cups are consolation prices compared to the league.

No I don't care about domestic cups unless they are alongside a satisfactory league performance

No. I want to see actual progression in the PL. That entails scoring a whole lot more goals than we currently are.

The feeling right now is that we're going to end up somewhere around 7th or 8th with no trophies, so if you offered me another F.A. Cup title over City or Arsenal or Liverpool I'd probably take it. If it were the League Cup, no, that's a pointless competition and it should honestly be scrapped anyway.

Given our poor start and spiraling form, I would be satisfied with fifth place and no cups. 7th would be a calamity that is beneath the honor of this club.

Like some people said if its the EL then yes! winner still qualifies to next year CL? or that changed with new changes?

No it's not progress. We need to be challenging for Premier League's and Champions League and not just a few handy draws to a cup

Another cup win is barely worth it to watch dross week in and week out. Last year we lost 37% of our games in all competitions. You stick a United game on and there is a better more than once every three games you get the feeling of watching United lose. Who wants that?

Trophies are important but I'd hope we could win a trophy or two while playing exciting football. It's too depressing watching how bad we are, and if we fluked our way to another cup win and played mostly terrible football, no, not satisfied.

Satisfied would certainly not be the word I'd use

It's been 6 games. It is not too late to save the season if we sack Ten Hag during the next international break

I'd take Europa League, mid table finish and ETH replaced at the end of the season right now.

No.

It'd just mean more inevitable hammerings in the league from the big boys. We've seen enough of those over the last few years.

The bar used to be CL qualification or you're gone, then INEOS came in and lowered it. Half the caf were on board with that though so wouldn't be surprised if people respond positively to this thread.
