Attacking the Stretford End in the first half?

Did this again last night - IT IS MADNESS, STOP DOING IT!!!!

Can you imagine Liverpool doing this at Anfield

They haven't seemed to have done it intentionally for a while. Could this one not just have been Everton winning the toss and electing to turn the teams around?

Utd confirmed we won the toss and turned ourselves around - we are stupid

Did we really? That's crazy... why can't they see the psychological benefits to attacking the stretford end second half?

They think a fast start potential is better.

It really isn't, there's a reason no other team in Europe does this.

I don't buy the fast start line, I think Amorim thinks they can't handle the pressure playing at home and feels it's psychologically easier this way around

If we attack the stretty second half yesterday I've no doubt we'd have got a (totally undeserved) equaliser

Yeah, weird one then. If the logic is for getting a quick start, god knows it isn't working.

Not sure any of our players broke out into a bit of a run until after we were behind.

I'm assuming this is an instruction from Amorim which stems from his irrational anxiety, similar to why he can't watch penalties. I think I read last season that he thought the pressure from the Stretford End to score in the second half was getting to the players. Absolute coward of a manager.

I'd genuinely love to know the stats when teams have to attack their favourite end in the first half compared to second half at home. It probably happens 1-2 times a season so will be a small sample size but you had Man. United losing their first home game since August last night and Liverpool lost at the weekend attacking the Kop first half.

Does seem to impact teams mentally if they're not expecting it as impacts on their general routines so I'm surprised more away teams don't do it if they win the toss as feels a bigger benefit than attacking end where their own supporters might be shoved in the corner or high up e.g. Newcastle.

Probably less of an issue at some of the new grounds as there's less of a traditional home end at those venues.

There's a coin toss? I thought it's standard? No coin involved

Yeah they toss the coin to decide which ends to attack and who gets the kick off. A small detail that can have a big impact on a game if you're losing deep in a second half and don't have a favourite end near you to feel like they're sucking the ball in.

Looking at Man. United ground now they've rebuilt the other goal stand to be half of a disabled section (I think) and then you have away fans in the corner next so it's not a great end to attack really compared to 20 years ago.

It's not that dramatic - East stand (K stand as we would call it) is still a decent atmosphere (for big games) and full of ST holders in general, but we give the away support a cracking bit of the corner in tier one which does back onto the extended disabled section.

But nothing compared to attacking the Stretford End which as with most modern stadia now, houses the only real consistent vocal support in the ground and can have the 'pull the ball in effect'

O.k interesting. Just on TV it is a huge amount of seats gone compared to 2000s when a corner comes in from that side. However that Lyon comeback you had you were attacking that end in the second period of extra time.

This weird little choice is one of many we will learn once this fella is gone. It’s totally bizarre.
He might want the tunnel moving next, I mean the noise when the players are waiting in the tunnel pre game might frighten them.
