If Jose gets the Madrid job, I’d convincingly say this deal is off.
Perez still calls the shots; also, they're looking at EF at Chelsea as a Rodri alternative, apparently. Quite a snide player in the stereotypical Argentinian engine-room mould, along with decent passing and engine; someone who can be made even more of a Jose-style on-field villain. In that case, I think he'd be ok with the deal.If Jose gets the Madrid job, I’d convincingly say this deal is off.
I still find it criminal that we didn't get those two in the Ronaldo deal, clear Ronaldo and Tevez replacements, if not stylistically then certainly from a quality stand point. RM probably would have chucked them in with the £80mil just to get it done.Off the top of my head the two clear examples against this is Robben and Sneijder.
That's a really good shout. Yeah there's no way Mourinho let's someone like Tchaumeni go.If Jose gets the Madrid job, I’d convincingly say this deal is off.
I still find it difficult to believe that Sir Alex said nah I’d rather Owen and Valencia, strange. He’d of fecking loved both of them as players.I still find it criminal that we didn't get those two in the Ronaldo deal, clear Ronaldo and Tevez replacements, if not stylistically then certainly from a quality stand point. I agree with you. Mateus Fernandes is a 8/10 and hence more of a attacking midfield player. And i think he would be a interesting player to replace Bruno. Mateus Fernandes might not have Bruno's ability to be decisive with the pass in the final third at this stage of his career but he has good ball carrying abilities backed up by a decent turn of pace. And this something we have lacked in that area. Alex Scott from Bournemouth would also be a similar type of player who has good Ball carrying ability as the 8/10.
But what we ideally need imo is midfielders who can play the 6/8 role and none of the aforementioned players in the first paragraph suit that role imo. Baleba or Tchouameni as the physically and athletically dominant players along with someone like Kees Smit as the 6/8 midfield metronome is something that has the potential to develop and grow. Many are against the signing of Baleba right now but I feel his ability to eat up ground rapidly along with his ability to evade the press and carry the ball forward would help progress the system of play where we can play higher up the pitch. And when you can play higher up the pitch as a team in a higher defensive line then the press from the front becomes effective. And you can only do that with players in the CB and midfield lines who can defend transitions in 1v1 scenarios and Baleba or Tchouameni both have the abilities to control the game in that regard due to their physicality and athleticism.
And then if you surround these players with the likes of Mainoo and Kees Smit, then the likes of Mainoo and Smit's abilities in confined spaces becomes a huge asset to the team and I would have the patience to see how things develop with a midfield like this due to the potential of each player and what they bring about as far their potential is concerned in different phases of the game.
Either Tchouameni or Baleba with someone like Kees Smit would be the way to go imo. It doesn't look like we're going to sign Elliot Anderson and our best bet of securing a player like that is to target that player early. And for me, Kees Smit falls into that category and is someone who has the potential to develop into a world class deeper lying midfielder who has the ability to evade and resist pressure, carry the ball forward and break lines. He's also physically strong for his age which is another advantage imo.We both agree on the need to add athleticism and physicality to our midfield. Midfielders like Baleba who are able to disrupt opposing set defences through their dribbling in midfield are especially valuable. If we get Tchoaumeni, I think we should target a younger DM to replace Ugarte rather than Baleba. I would like us to have a look at younger midfielders since like Aladji Bamba, Ayyoub Boauddi, Caleb Yirenkyi or even Shea Charles. Its important to target the right profile in terms of player as well as age of squad. Tchouameni will be in his prime so it would be good for us to think long term and get a younger player who can learn from him and still years away from his prime years.
A midfield quartet of Mainoo, Smit, Tchouameni and Bouaddi/Bamba ticks all the right boxes in terms of age, quality, talent and profile. We would thus have a midfield that can compete with the best of the EPL.
Do you not think that’s a case of Tchouaméni cooks spoil the broth? We both agree on the need to add athleticism and physicality to our midfield. No chance do I give in this earlyTo the Baleba thread!
A lot depends who comes in as manager. If it's any manager who values team balance above individual star goalscoring talent, then Tchouameni will definitely stay as there are few better #6's in the world IMO. Mourinho for example if that's a real rumor, will 100% keep him. If they get someone who likes shiny toys and wants all more attack minded players... Then he might leave. I wouldn't assume he's leaving so far though. Would be a dream signing, but too good to be true. This was clearly never on unless Real were going to tell him to leave.
He might want to leave if Jose gets the job.If Jose gets the Madrid job, I’d convincingly say this deal is off.
If Rodri comes there Tchouameni will have limited minutes and lower status, which is probably not what he wants. And they have Camavinga there as wellHe might want to leave if Jose gets the job.

Bamba and Yirenkyi are very interesting prospects and are two players that I'm sure many teams are keeping a eye on. Bouaddi is also a very good young talent but maybe better suited to the 8/10 role for now.

I could live with signing those two, however just hope we don't admit defeat too early on him like we did with KaneHey! I haven't seen you post in quite a while, it's nice to hear some sensible suggestions again. I think (based on nothing only a hunch!) that we will grab 2 premier league midfielders to try and consolidate our top 4 ambitions and to deal with the required physicality right out of the blocks and one punt from abroad. I had a look at Smit again last night. He actually kind of reminds of a younger Scholes when he was playing 8/10 role instead of the later 6/8 (nothing to do with the red hair I promise!) He looks like a great talent for sure. There's been noise around him about Real for the last season or two hasn't there?
I think we will pick up Baleba or one of the Wolves Dms and then one of Scott or Fernandes. All quite sensible. I would hope we'd be in for a player like Bouaddi or Smit then too as a wild card which could sort the centre of midfield for years to come. Thats the hope anyway!
100% this, even the same position. I’d be in shock if this deal happened. This feels akin to Vidal or De Jong "sagas" of yesteryear.

Agreed, he's a very similar profile to Frenkie de Jong on the ball. But I feel Kees Smit is physically more powerful than de Jong, which would be advantageous if/when he moves to one of the big leagues in Europe.Yes, Kees Smit would be a really smart purchase and squad addition. I think he would really challenge Mainoo to that deeper role in the long term. He has bits to his game of FDJ. Koeman even compared him to FDJ and Pedri, we haven't had that type of player in our midfield since Scholes.
Would anyone pay that for him?I think the domino effect will help us in this case, If Rodri moves to Madrid then Tchouameni will move to us and Anderson to City. If Rodri stays then i doubt City spends 120M on Anderson. In that case we should go for Baleba and Scott. But my choice would be Tchouameni and Scott this stage if everything goes according to plan.
Delicious punDo you not think that’s a case of Tchouaméni cooks spoil the broth?
Feel he would be more open to move than De Jong ever was, however still looking like a huge askThis feels akin to Vidal or De Jong "sagas" of yesteryear.
Completely agree. I’m sure Tchouameni’s first choice is to stay at Real and sign a new contract, but if they sign a Balon d’Or that plays his position, that may change. Also informs the club’s position too. He has 2 years left on his contract, so it’s renew or sell time for them. If they are signing Rodri, it makes sense to move him on now.I think the domino effect will help us in this case, If Rodri moves to Madrid then Tchouameni will move to us and Anderson to City. I am also of the opinion that we have a good chance to get Tchouameni, this is based on TOTD and how confident Mitten was about this player. The way he said Manutd feel he is very gettable and he has been banging the drum for at least a month or so with Spanish based midfielder comment earlier.Completely agree. As for the impending arrival of Jose, I don’t think it really matters. Sure, Tchouameni is his kind of player, but you know who is even more his kind of player? Rodri.
I do see this deal happening, because I think Pep will leave. With only a year left, Rodri will probably fancy a change too and City will bank a decent fee (£40m-ish) for a veteran player.
Feel this deal is turning into a bit of a Whitwell is hearing it looks like he will stay, on the other hand Mitten is definitely talking about it with real belief. I do think this is gonna very much hinge on whether Real decide to move for RodriI am also of the opinion that we have a good chance to get Tchouameni, this is based on TOTD and how confident Mitten was about this player. It means the player is open to moving and our club is also pushing for it. Madrid is the kind of club which always allow players to leave if they fancy moving, plus our relationship with them is very good (with several players moving both ways), all helps our case.

In reality, Tchouameni is the dream game changer option for us in fact and accelerates the rebuild quite a bit, but unrealistic IMO and we'll do well to get anywhere close to his level with who we actually sign. Because not a single midfielder on the move is ahead of him as a DM which is the top priority for us.Finding a better option than Tchouameni isn't that hard and I'd say we are linked to many already.
