Not convinced enough by Baleba's passing technique to suggest he has a higher ceiling.
But should be possible for United to sign Tchouameni + Baleba as back-up 6 + Mateus Fernandes/Kees Smit this summer.
Would we not need to sign someone who has that passing ability like a Scott or Stiller to partner the first two
I think Keane punched him in the face after a match and that was sometime after Heinze kicked him in training, separate incidents. Keane head butting Schmeichel was another incident at some preseason night out.
Neither of them good situations but they got on with it. It does feel a bit surprising nowadays. I’d be surprised if one of them doesn’t move on in the summer.
I don’t think Scott is any better a passer than Mateus Fernandes.

Who do you think does give us that passing ability, probably first name that comes to mind is Wharton but the price will be a problem that's for certain.
I’d 100% take him but the first thing I’d be floating/ asking Madrid/ his agent is if Valverde is available
United would surely be buying Tchouameni to be the first-choice CM next to Mainoo... his passing is far from shabby as well; it's probably pretty similar to Casemiro's.
Baleba would be back-up to Tchouameni, and Fernandes or Smit would be back-up to Mainoo.
Scott's passing is probably his biggest draw-back btw - he still has a fairly limited passing range; he is not an Anderson, Wharton or Stiller on the ball. Scott and Baleba are actually fairly similar players in being quite prone to dribble, and less prone to long balls and spreading play.
Fernandes and Smit are both players who are quite creative with their passing, but (if West Ham go down) won't break the bank and as such should be in budget as 3rd CM signings/Mainoo back-ups.
PS a dedicated 6/DM with excellent passing range currently does not exist (aside from say Rodri and Locatelli), as I've mentioned on many occasions here.

I think his passing ability is okay, conflated with the fact that Tchouameni’s passing is not Pirlo-like either.
The thing with Baleba is that I think he doesn’t read as well as he looks when he’s on it. What he’s good at, he is freakishly good at, which is why I think he can have a huge impact on matches, but people understandably want to see players score 8+ across the board. In the extreme, I can compare to Haaland, who is good at fewer things than Alvarez - but was the clear superior player due to the extremity of what he was good at. Baleba is an exceptional ball winner and carrier to a level where even top teams struggle to live with it. And as for the rest - he can pass and has good feet too, some of which needs refining. That’s the point when you buy a young player.
I think a lot of people are losing the ability or at least the will to speculate on players these days. If you watch Baleba when he’s on it, it’s not a hard sell at all. He’s shown he can dominate the best PL midfields since 20-odd years old.

This signing felt very unlikely as City letting Rodri go and Madrid replacing Tchouameni with a 30 year old post ACL player.. I just didn't see it all falling into place.

Tchouameni rumoured to be a Man United and Carrick fan, add Mateus Fernandes and Alex Scott and get all three for £150m that’s fantastic Business and far better than just buying Baleba and Anderson or Tonali for £185- 200m!!

Perhaps we should stay well clear of all of them.As the chart suggests, Wharton's passing is high reward, but also high risk - he gives the ball away a lot, hence why his 'fields gained per incompletion' is below average.
Tchouameni would give some defensive stability that could almost accommodate a Wharton, but I still think Wharton's lack of pace and defensive ability is too great to be worth it at United (again, same as Stiller). I'm not convinced his passing is worth it for the zero he gives off the ball. Old Trafford is a bigger pitch than Selhurst Park, and I think he'd get exposed. He really is incredibly slow; he makes Mainoo look explosive.
