Aurelien Tchouameni | signs new contract til 2031, to be official after the World Cup

As the chart suggests, Wharton's passing is high reward, but also high risk - he gives the ball away a lot, hence why his 'fields gained per incompletion' is below average.

Tchouameni would give some defensive stability that could almost accommodate a Wharton, but I still think Wharton's lack of pace and defensive ability is too great to be worth it at United (again, same as Stiller). I'm not convinced his passing is worth it for the zero he gives off the ball. Old Trafford is a bigger pitch than Selhurst Park, and I think he'd get exposed. He really is incredibly slow; he makes Mainoo look explosive.
Yeah the lack of pace and defensive ability is a worry and you make very valid point about pitch size

Every time I log on twitter there’s a new leak:

Good lad. Sounds like exactly what we need.

Where's the RM petition to get AT out of the club? Let's all get signing!

But you want Fede given everything said about him, his attitude and his wife? Wild take!
It was a joke. I don't want either of them. But, between those two i would choose superior player. Which is Valverde.

I don't see what is wild about it, tbh.
Wild that you’re complaining about the character of Tchoumeni when it all points to Valverde being the issue then saying you’d like to sign Valverde despite suggesting the club don’t need toxicity at the club.

Bizarre!

To be fair, his argument is that Valverde is far better, which isn't exactly true but that's the argument used.

Might lower the price now, well done. I think he is a bit overrated but at Fernandes and Scott to our midfield and we look incredible in midfield

I don't know why but I find this hilarious. Along with the supposed attitude issues with Alvaro Fernandez their dressing room must be a mess. Not to mention the drama surrounding Mbappe. No wonder Alonso noped out of there.

He’s put Valverde out of El Classico. It’s really hard to see him continuing there

At least we know that with Rabiot and Tchouaméni France's midfield will be combative.

What happened with Alvaro? I thought he’d be the last one to cause issues given they have the likes of Mbappe, Vini and Bellingham in their squad.

Ok, like I said, I was half-joking, but if you insist on taking this seriously, then fair enough.

As far as I know (and apparently you know more than I do), Real Madrid fans never really had an issue with Valverde’s work ethic on the pitch. So the whole “attitude problems” thing feels a bit exaggerated to me. I also think he’s probably at fault here, but remember how many internal arguments and even fights we had in the dressing room under Fergie.
I hadn’t heard anything about his wife either, so I have no idea what the issue is there.

And that brings us to the most important point: player quality for Man United. That’s where, in my opinion, Valverde is clearly superior.

Posted in earlier in this thread.

Nope, there's been rumours of attitude problems with him and he's aparently been benched by Arbeloa because of that.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7252427/2026/05/05/real-madrid-mbappe-rudiger-arbeloa-tensions/

In the 11th minute, Ferland Mendy was taken off injured, with Fran Garcia coming on to replace him. Spanish TV cameras caught Alvaro Carreras laughing in reaction. That Carreras was again overlooked (he has been an unused substitute in three of Madrid’s past four matches) has stimulated debate among supporters.
The €50million (£43.2m; $58.5m) summer signing from Benfica (who Madrid let go for free to Manchester United in 2020), has seen his playing time reduced since Arbeloa replaced Xabi Alonso in January, and there has also been tension between Carreras and Arbeloa in recent weeks.
Sources among Madrid’s coaching staff have complained about the 23-year-old’s attitude and professionalism. Those close to the player reject the criticisms.

In fairness, getting sacked isn’t really “noping out of”, and reportedly some of the current tensions in the squad exist because some players (Tchouameni, Mbappe, etc) were Alonso loyalists/liked him, and supposedly didn’t like how he was treated by the likes of Valverde, Vinicius and Bellingham

Didn't they say he left by mutual consent?

Reported as sacking on many outlets. Mutual consent is likely just the wording to preserve Alonso’s image/future prospects.

Fair enough. He must be glad to get out of that circus.

It happened again apparently

Would appreciate some insight into this given our links.
That said being able to stand up for himself is an endearing quality for me nowadays....

Valverde is a scum bag where both him and his wife have been involved in racism/xenophobia incidents, not a big stretch to see he probably deserved to get knocked out here

Valverde out for 10-14 days. Resting at home with traumatic brain injury (radio 5 live)

Tchaumeni did a prime Tyson and knocked him the feck out.
