Aurelien Tchouameni | signs new contract til 2031, to be official after the World Cup

That's not true at all, he played 336 games for Madrid and scored 31 meaning he scored slightly better than 1 in 11 games, for us he scored 26 in 159 which is around 1 every 6 games so he scores twice as often which I do think shows he played a slightly different role for us.
He's had several seasons for Madrid scoring at the same rate he did for you the past 3 seasons

This season he's been scoring at a massively improved rate though. Question: how many of his goals are from set pieces?
Keeping the thread on topic, as someone who watches Tchouameni, how would you rate him, what is he good/ bad at and who is he similar to stylistically? Lots of voices here that wouldn't have seen him half as much as yourself I would imagine.
Sign him, he's good, give us a lot of money please
Well actually he was injured and couldn’t play.

Eitherway we don’t really watch him. But to say he’s not a top player is disingenuous.

I think for the final vs Dortmund in June 2024, i remember he was injured in 9th May 2024 in the Semi-final against Bayern and it was reported later in that month that he will miss the UCL Final.
Well no. He recovered in time for the final, but likely not 100%

The majority of Casemiros goals were from set pieces but he did score an overhead kick against Bournemouth that one time so that should count for 10 non set piece goals

Well he scored in a CL final for us

Please don’t do that.

People are allowed to hold views that differ from yours without being tarred with some generic, nonsensical brush.

In case you’re unaware, most transfer threads have disparate viewpoints and a lot of discussion back and forth about the player and if he’s a yay or nay.

So why do you assume that I’m against this? If I said nothing it would be okay to assume he’s rubbish because an actual “Real Madrid” fan said so.

I was just making the point - that also shouldn’t count for much.

I have my views and I’m happy to debate. I just didn’t want a narrative that because someone is a fan of the club their opinion counts more. I’m not trying to police anything. It’s boring when everyone has the same opinions.

There are City fans who tell Haaland to get the feck out of their club. I really don't think fans' opinion on a player should determine whether we go for them or not. Tchouameni is a class player who plays at a very high level in a role we are in desperate need to fill.

Because you made a blanket statement. This isn’t a partisan site.

Real Madrid fans stating Tchouameni isn’t a top player - Is what I was originally replying to.

I think we can agree to some extent if you play as many games for Real Madrid and France as he has, you have something about it.

I was basically saying take fan opinion with a pinch of salt in these circumstances. He’s clearly a top player. If he suits us that’s a different question.

There’s nothing wrong with what I said.

How does Tchouameni lack intensity ? Are you basing that opinion on one game against Barca ? Or that there’s been a few occasions in his Real career it’s been said in La Liga games but he himself has called out the team for a lack of intensity.

If Tchouameni lacked intensity he wouldn’t start for Real or France in the position that he does, in a more intense league where the game can be just as hard against a top 6 club as a bottom 6 club you need to maintain intensity and be very physical whereas you don’t in La Liga.
As I said in another post he just seems to coast through the majority of matches. Doesn’t really get stuck in or fully commit to challenges. He’s very slow to react on and off the ball. Plays within himself with a very clear element of timidity.

I don’t know how you characterize such other than lacking intensity. And it’s a very consistent characteristic of his game if you watch him with any regularity. Very frustrating as he has the ability to take games by the scruff of the neck but rarely does.

No s*** Real Madrid say he isn't good. This is a case of not seeing the forest for the trees, or in the case of this club at the moment, not seeing the circus for the clowns.

Look at what's going on at that club. Players essentially got a manager sacked because he was you know, trying to instill his way of playing which demanded the M'Bappes and Vinnys of the world be professionals and actually work for their paycheck. That dressing room is an absolute toxic nightmare being run by the players, and you don't have the likes of Kroos, Modric, Sergio Ramos, etc anymore to keep the ship steady. You have an interim manager paroting his unhinged owner's paranoid ramblings about Barca and the referees while the team is an embarrassing mess by their standards. Looking at a player's performance in this environment without taking the environment into account is very naive. It's an unserious club right now, so of course player performances are going to drop. You can't separate that level of dysfunction from the outcomes on the pitch.

No DM is ever going to be good enough because people want the running that Mainoo doesn’t offer and the passing that Mainoo doesn’t offer from one player. With almost every option, you get one or the other - and then the complaint will always be about their weaker area. This pattern has become very clear now, can be plugged in to every thread to save time.
Yeah it's becoming tiresome asking people to come up with alternatives to him who can play that Casemiro role. Baleba feels like such a downgrade but feels like the only alternative 6 being targeted.

Precisely. If not him, then who? Certainly the only one that comes close physically in terms of height and aerial ability, which with the title seemingly being won by a rugby team, feels important.

That's "no value in the market" territory. You won't find one (or you won't be able to make him move to us because he's already where he wants to be).

The reality is we need a vision of how the midfield is going to look like, so look at two players (at least) and how they + Mainoo will operate (assuming some rotation).

I'd love Anderson but if it takes 120m to get him, we will not be able to fund another good quality midfielder. And we need numbers in midfield as well. It's a tough situation to be in, but for a decade it never seemed like we had a plan for midfield so that's where we are. It actually took an academy wonderkid to settle a functioning midfield for us.
Yeah definitely need more than Anderson, like you say it's a result of neglecting this midfield far too long leaving us too much investment needed in one summer.

The Mourinho hiring probably puts paid on this drama, especially since he's negotiating for more influence on transfers. I can't see him letting Tchoua go even if Rodri comes. Only way Tchoua becomes available is if Chema is brought back and they chase Enzo or similar. I'm resigned to the probability that it's M Fernandes + Baleba. Ok with M Fernandes but concerned with Baleba.

If Real don't bring Chema back though, then United should seriously consider moving for him.

Giving me De Jong feeling.

Hope he speaks to Casemiro to ask what it’s like.

He’s more of a Jose player than Rodri. I’ll be surprised if Jose sanctions his departure.

Unless we think there is a big upside to his game being hidden amongst the chaos its better from a tactical perspective to let Madrid handle his huge contract and inhibit any potential squad development.

Just spend loads on Anderson. Lets not deal with questionable characters again

Interesting shout. Has he been linked with anyone besides a return to Madrid?

From what Madrid fans say he’s slow in his decision making which will kill him in the PL.

He’s also going to cost a bomb and be in depression after competing at the highest level.

Hope we don’t get this into a long shitty saga over a player that isn’t worth it. Prefer is to find a young deep lying playmaker ala Carrick / Alonso. As much as people like him, the profile of Casemiro was also the wrong one for us.

Agree. There’s this lad who plays for Everton …

I don't think there's a manager in Europe who would say "no thanks" to Rodri.
Not implying it’s one or the other. Simply that I’ll be surprised if Jose lets him go. He’s the fitter, younger, more physical DM.
