Well Utd will move on quickly if that's the case, could be a huge body blow to miss out on him, Anderson and Fernandes as well early on in the window
People get excited by simple water carriers, players like this one.. DM is one of most important positons in football if you can control the game and push the team forward. This guy can't do shit. INEOS has the imagination of a thimble in the transfer market.
Like when they signed Lammens.
We are talking about midfield. They bought Ugarte and chase him whole summer.
His post seemed to be suggesting INEOS generally.
They defaulted to Lammens at the persistence of a goalkeeping scout after chasing Emi Martinez half the summer. Same as Sesko at the behest of Vivell after missing out on Delap, Gyokeres and Watkins.
But they signed those players. Weird point.
They also took heaven from Arsenal.

Heaven was a great get but youth recruitment is Wilcox’s real area of expertise. And if you’re pointing to the two most promising signings last summer surely it’s worth pointing out that they weren’t priority targets going into the summer.
Just seems a really unnecessary and overly negative way to perceive things. They ended up listening to the experts they employ to sign the right players. Doesn’t sound that bad to me.
And could easily have missed out on both chasing other targets all summer.

No we spent half the summer chasing him only to decide Villa’s asking price was too rich. Which every man and his dog knew would be the case. We then bizarrely drug our feet for over a month and there were even briefs we’d go into the season with what we had but thankfully got Lammens in on Deadline Day.
Same as Sesko we proper stumbled into it.

Lammens, Heaven and Dorgu for £50m is good by anyone’s measure. Sure, Ugarte has been utter shite, but all clubs make bad signings. Our hit rate has been far better since they got here than it was before.
Not trying to derail this thread any further so I’ll just say that the jury is still very much out on INEOS.
You’ve just had a hard case to show it’s not. All you have is Ugarte and Zirkzee. I think we can close case to be honest.
Also I don’t think there’s a player we’ve been linked with so far this window for the CM who the majority wouldn’t approve of.

It’s gone from ‘imagination of a thimble’ to ‘jury’s still out’ pretty quickly!
But the jury on what came before was very much in, and it found them guilty of being dogshit. £200m gave us Onana, Sancho and Antony.
Even Zirkzee we won’t take a huge loss on. There’s only Ugarte that’s been terrible.
INEOS have done nothing to warrant championing them and I find it odd how much grace they get for a random smorgasbord of signings:
Lammens - looks like the coup of the decade for the club so far - they didn’t intend to take him and he wasn’t first pick. Serendipity played its part here.
Heaven - an obvious steal for the outlay - fortuitous but massively beneficial to us.
Yoro - hindsight with him is stupid; came here as one of the most exciting and coveted players on the market. Another coup.
de Ligt - some rate him higher than others do. I am not a big fan, but it’s not a particularly bad signing.
Mazraoui - very good signing and opportunistic deal.
Dorgu - jury is still out; looks to have turned it around. Not cheap for his role and standing prior to coming here.
Sesko - Anyone following his story knows he’s always been expected to be a later bloomer with huge potential. A good buy that will require patience to see his true level.
Cunha - A solid buy, but nothing special in terms of unearthing or acquiring. An obvious purchase.
Mbeumo - Mixed bag. Looks like a player who thrives in a different system to what we play now. In terms of long-term planning and foresight, he mightn’t be eclectic enough to be considered a good buy as he already looks like a player without a viable role.
Ugarte - An expensive, unmitigated disaster who shouldn’t have been considered at all given the reason Enrique didn’t want him.
Zirkzee - An unmitigated disaster.
Leon - N/A. One to assess in a few years
It’s hardly genial, certain nor showing some keen insight thus far - just a middling game of Football Manager, certainly not some irreplaceable force, and given the outlay beyond Mazraoui, it’s not some amazing bargain run. From the above, there’s no telling they will suddenly shine this window. For me, Lammens is an absolute jewel, but if they had their way, he would not be here. I don’t know how Heaven slipped the net to the degree we could acquire him so cheaply; if they can rustle up more like that, fair play (or not) to them. More in the S-class youngsters like Yoro would be very impressive, but after that, it’s nothing at all to write home about thus far.
This is a massive and pivotal window for them and probably the first one where a balanced assessment of their nous can be made as they’re bedded in now and should have their master plan in place ready to be mapped and executed…

Lammens was the Ineos option. Martinez was being pushed by Amorim
I’m not sure anyone has been heaping huge amounts of praise on INEOS. The discussion arose because an opinion was presented that they were basically useless and inept, which seems extremely harsh based on their overall record of signings so far.
But it’s all relative. Here’s our major signings in the seasons prior to INEOS:
Hojlund - shit
Mount - crock
Onana - exploding clown car
Antony - overpriced shit
Casemiro - brilliant but very expensive
Martinez - good but a crock
Malacia - crock
Sancho - somehow worse value than Antony
Varane - good, but ageing, expensive and a crock
Ronaldo - obvious expensive disaster
Donny - pointless disaster
Amad - good
Telles - shit
Pellistri - shit
Cavani - good first season
There’s the odd decent signing, but most of those have caveats. I make it a bit under £600m. Out of all those players, there’s only one (Amad) we wouldn’t lose money on.
Dorgu looks like a really good buy at 35 million. Mazraoui and Lammens were very good acquisitions. I do however have concerns about getting established players (like Tchouameni) by Ineos. It's a different situation to buying promising players that are allowed to fail (at least some of them, if you look statistically).
Also, Mbuemo looked like a better buy as he looked like much more versatile player than Cunha. It's a pleasant surprise Cunhs could adapt his game to a different role he clearly plays now compared to what he was used to.
Both Mbuemo and Cunha were "obvious buys" like you mentioned, however imo it was a mistake to get both of them at the same time. This was clearly done for Amorim system. At the time it looked like "backing the manager". Now it's a bit of a problem (due to no natural wingers in the squad, depending how you profile Amad).
A lot of people seem to have blind faith in INEOS and even cite the work they have done up to this point as an underlying reason why, so I guess that even moved from “blind” to them thinking what has gone on thus far is good. That seems incredibly shortsighted and premature to me when a number of their big signings might themselves need replacing if they don’t seriously improve next season.
It’s all a matter of opinion and I guess also depends on what you class as decent or good, let alone great. Great to me are the clubs in the league who keep striking gold/oil finding gems that wow everybody, or established players who go up another level at their new clubs - we can’t say much to that and actually have to hope there’s a lot more to come from their big signings than we’ve seen.
Relative to what? An atrocious period? To where we want to get to? To how other clubs in our league seem to be so skilled in the market?
What went before should be struck off, for me. It’s no bearing on where we want to be or, for me, the gauge of what they’ve done.
As I’ve said, this is really their window to shine. A really pivotal moment for the club and for them.
Dorgu was expensive for what he was and where he was coming from. If he comes good, nobody will care about that and that’s fine.
Their buys don’t point towards a particular vision or coming together of a solid idea, and that’s a problem in itself because those players then might need moving on in a season or two themselves, but we’ll see. Apart from Lammens, I’m not sure there’s consensus on any of their buys, but obviously Heaven for peanuts is an elite move regardless of how he turns out.

Who? Wirtz for £120m? Isak for £120m? Reijndeers for £45m? Marmoush £65m? Grealish £100m? Gittens £50m? Fofana £75m? Woltemade £75m? Madueke £50m? It’s not an exact science. So far, they’re doing alright. Lammens and Heaven are master strokes, a lot like Cunha and Mbeumo are about par, Zirkzee was a punt that hasn’t come off but the only disaster so far is Ugarte. That’s a good strike rate.
