Aurelien Tchouameni | signs new contract til 2031, to be official after the World Cup

As a DM he can do well, he is now entering his prime and the Real experience is an asset for sure. That said, he never kept up to his juvenile hype, even if he did better overall than his twin Camavinga
He was getting hyped as the next Pogba before joining Madrid but he's very much more in the traditional/pure DM mold rather than an all-action type which should be fine for United given that that is the profile of midfielders we're already targetting to start the window

Yeah which is what we need to add to Ederson and hopefully Fernandes in the next few weeks too

And how exactly can you assert to this at such an early point in the player movement process?

Mind you, a World Cup year where he’s been called to represent the French squad, and Madrid being in state of influx from the top down.

Jumping to the conclusions mat much.
The player movement process? What does that even mean?

No one is jumping to conclusions, this just a common sense approach. We tend to assume regular players who play for big clubs are in a position where they are happy to stay. Not open to leaving. If it was the latter wed actually see reports of it when a big club is intetested, such as say Luiz Dias at Liverpool.
Just think the reality is we have no idea either way. If we sign him in a months time, that doesn’t mean he’s joining begrudgingly. An absence of news isn’t news.
I think we have a very clear idea right now.

But his legacy at United is what makes us popular in France. Remember Cantona was a big promotion piece for Nike and he’s only really as you’ve said associated to our club.

Arsenal traditionally have the large volume of players through Wenger.

United isn't particularly popular in France. In reality foreign clubs that aren't Real Madrid or Barcelona aren't really popular.

Maybe you do but I certainly don’t

If he wanted to come here wed be in talks already. I think its clear he wants to stay unless forced out. Last player in that situation was Di Maria.
Di Maria being forced out of Real wasn't an issue. The problem was that he then wanted to go to PSG rather than us but PSG couldn't fit him in their budget that season, so he ended up here despite us being a fair way down the pecking order in his mind. Even then he was still great for us at the start, and It was only when he fell out with LVG that it all went to shit. Once he then got the move to PSG he was great for them. Similar to Robben being great for Bayern after being forced out of Real. Makelele for Chelsea. Sneijder for Inter.

So if we're the club Tchouameni wants to move to if he has to leave Real then there's no issue at all. If other clubs are in for him and he'd rather go them, that's where I'd be worried if we tried to win the bidding war by simply paying more than the other clubs would.

We don't even know for sure that he does want to stay considering how the season ended. Especially if they sign Rodri there's a decent chance Tchouameni actually will want to leave if he's going to have to play second fiddle.

I don't think you can really create a perfect midfield with Bruno in it. That's fine, Bruno is insanely good and absolutely must remain at the club, so it's not worth dwelling on it.

On Tchouameni, he'd be among the best midfielders in the league if he joined, but Mourinho will surely want to keep him.

With the way Carrick set up the team Bruno isn't an issue anymore because he essentially plays like a second striker/very attacking #10. In that kind of setup you would ideally have one of your wide players operating as a wide midfielder more than a traditional, a bit like an old Giggs or a prime Koke.

I bet plenty of people said similar about Casemiro coming here quite late in the window. Look how that turned out!

Yeah you would think Mourinho will keep him unfortunately, however whilst there's still a chance

He got only 2 more years on his current contract and earns a fixed weekly wage of €240,385 (approximately £205,000) at Real Madrid

Salary doesnt look like a problem, but I dont want another DiMaria situation and hope we pursue him only if he really wants to come here.

As some said, this would be the best DM signing who can complement Mateus-F and Mainoo

What wage do you think he would accept here if of course we actually get that far in the first place

I would offer £250K base and 20% bonus on top if we win league or champions league, hope that is sensible.

I really wish he loves EPL, and hope City or Pool wont over take us.

While I wouldn't say I'm confident Tchouameni will be joining (or leaving Real at all), I'm more confident of it than I was with Casemiro. I didn't believe those rumours at all until it was basically happening.

In saying that, Casemiro was (like Varane) actively looking to move on to experience something new. Real would have happily kept them if they'd wanted to stay. Whereas if Real truly do go for Rodri (and perhaps Enzo as well) then I feel like they might be wanting to sell Tchouameni, so it's not a perfect comparison.

He's probably pushing for him, however people do make a very valid point about reports saying he wants to stay. Personally I still feel if a Rodri or Fernandez is signed he might reconsider that stance
Enzo will definitely end up at Real and BBC Sport reported that Real need to sell in order to get Enzo so with Enzo wanting Real and Real wanting Enzo added to the need to sell to make it happen and the Tchouameni/Valverde stuff it all makes perfect sense for us.
Agree with this. I think Tchouameni would be closer to a Casemiro like-for-like replacement than anybody else, and that’s the kind of profile I think we’d be missing.

Don’t think ending up with four midfielders (i.e., Anderson, Mainoo, Ederson and Fernandes) whose main attributes do not begin with defensive-first qualities/tendencies is a good idea. If Tchouameni doesn’t work out, maybe Baleba must then be considered?
I really think that Tchouameni in the PL will be a bit like when Yaya Toure went to City or Casemiro came to us as the PL is a physical league whereas La Liga is a technical league, Yaya and Casemiro looked different players in the PL to La Liga because of their physical attributes and I think we’d see Tchouameni show so much more than he does at Real.

There were reports a month or so ago that Real wanted creative midfielders like they had with Kroos and Modric which is why they’re looking and Enzo and Rodri coming in as they’re a completely different profile to Tchouameni so I think if we offer Real around £70 million and sell Tchouameni on the idea of our project and him being our midfield leader this gets done.

Madrid are in a transition period and might actually welcome an offer for a player covered in controversy from fight gate.

I'd offer them a decent sum of money and match his salary, I don't see why being sold by Madrid should mean he gets a salary increase.

I agree with this. I think Cunha and Dorgu playing on the left could do that wide midfielder role with both bringing different qualities depending on what we need on the game. Cunha is pretty good at progressing the ball and his defensive contribution has been good this season. Dorgu would bring more width on that role

All well that we want him but does he want to come to England? I think he’s the type who prefers to stay and play in Spain. Madrid cannot force him if he doesn’t want to, like we saw with Frenkie

We have lots of former and established French internationals who played for us though. Evra, Pogba and most recently Varane. Heck we even had Barthez for three years

Think we'll see things start to go in motion after the Real presidential elections. If Perez wins as expected, they'll announce Jose and get started on their summer business.

They'll evidently want to have a splashy summer as well with the way Barca are attacking the window. I guarantee that the current Rral squad dynamics will be very different in 2 months time after the World Cup wraps up.

Casemiro wanted go leave. A lot of money was put in the table by us and Real gave their blessing.

Me neither, I suspect this isn't a realistic transfer this year. Tonali /fernandes are probably the more realistic targets. Then again newcastle looking for 100m for Tonali...
Not even Ornstein saying I would keep an eye on this when he was on NBC Sports a couple of weeks ago

While I don't see Tchouameni being the one they sell from that list, I think this is good approach from us. We can be a lot more relaxed with how we approach a third midfield signing if we sort out Fernandes and Ederson early. Never know who might pop up at the World Cup either (not necessarily for us, but to contribute to the domino effect).
They will not sell Fede, he is the darling in Madrid. Rodri is the possible signing, whereas Camavinga has explicitly come out and said, he is happy in Madrid and will not move. Whereas for Tchouameni, as per Mitten in TOTD, Utd believes he is very gettable. It suggests that he has given some inclination that he will be willing to move here. It's just the part where Madrid should be willing to sell him. I do not see him the kind to agitate for the move, so right now it feels unlikely. But as i said, once Madrid is trying to sign Rodri or anybody for big amount, they will need to sell somebody to balance the books and may make him dispensable.

Bruno's defensive ability is fine for the player at the spear-head of a midfield 3.

You could well be right (and probably are). I doubt many Madrid players are gagging to come to United. But things can change very quickly if Madrid decide he’s not a first choice player anymore. We could become an attractive option to him.

If hes being forced out then hel need to want to come to us over everywhere else. But importantly I dont love the idea of getting players who are pushed out, its a bit unsettling. Probably Di Maria scars..

Interesting discussion. Assuming we get in Ederson & Mateus F, it's likely we see option 2 discussed in the vid, with Carrick trying to maximize their strengths. With the increased games, we definitely need a good rotation and I hope Carrick can find that balance. Mount definitely needs more game time, and I hope Bruno understands the need to conserve his efforts, not necessarily starting every game.

Concerning RM and their transfers, we might not get Tchouameni, but Camavinga or even better Chema might be CM#3. Mou is not a fan of youngsters when he has in-prime players, so if Rodri or Enzo do make the switch, I can see at least on of them being available. For the price of a Baleba, we'd get a more creative & technical player in Chema (or even Cama). Tchouameni is probably a bridge too far, but figure RM-related transfers will be late in the window.

Yeah didn't someone on here recently suggest that Chema is a bit of a Rodri lite, so if that was the case then maybe he will be the opportunity signing and not this guy.

Firstly, as we should be signing 3 midfielders this summer, we have the luxury of getting both options he discusses - the dream scenario for the club is probably to land both Fernandes and Tchouameni, and you have many possible of combinations you can play.

Secondly, I think he might be vastly overrating the technical level and ball retention of our team to think we can recreate the PSG way. Our defenders are too slow to push up the pitch consistently and effectively, our attackers give the ball away for fun, and Bruno's been known as a turnover machine too though I think his retention has gotten better over last couple of years. Sacrificing defensive solidity in the midfield seems a risk, we're not going to smother teams by keeping the ball while the opposition chase shadows like he seems to imply.

Oh yeah even IF we could somehow lure him away from Real there is still a long way to go before we had a team that could match the technical levels of PSG.

Agree- this is exactly how I see it.

I don't think Mourinho will let him go easily..
This is the type of player that he want

Well, indeed. There's no evidence that Carrick wants to play that kind of football, and even if he did, there's nothing to suggest that he could coach a side to play that way (there aren't many managers who could get their side playing the way PSG do).

I'm sure Carrick will be keeping in mind the problems Ole encountered when he attempted to change to a more progressive style of play after finding relative success with more direct football. I think it's more likely that next season Carrick chooses to lean into the things that have worked thus far, rather than abandon them. Sit back, break quickly, get crosses into the box.

He was getting hyped as the next Pogba before joining Madrid but he's very much more in the traditional/pure DM mold rather than an all-action type which should be fine for United given that that is the profile of midfielders we're already targetting to start the window

Who hyped him up as the next Pogba, they have never been similar? Tchouaméni was an all action midfielder that they used differently because they lost Casemiro and the transition to a more defensive role wasn't easy for him.

Would’ve loved Camavinga until his injuries started piling up. Availability trumps anything else, so hard no anymore.

As for Chema, he’s years away from the player we need now- another hard no. We need experienced players (that can be in the starting eleven rotation for 60 games) before we start filling in with prospects (I still consider Chema a prospect).

Assuming we get Ederson and M Fernandes: Anderson > Tchouameni > Tonali > Baleba.

Come on agents Evra, Pogba, Martial, Varane, Yoro, Casemiro! Get him in
