He's now been written off like Ederson and Summerville which makes me a bit worried where to go now
The CAF write everyone off.
For the CAF to really like a player, they have to be obscure enough where there is hope, so Portuguese/Eredivisie/Bundesliga/Ligue 1. The player has to never have been linked with us ( so its a leap of faith) and have good youtube clips.
Alternatively, it can also be a galactico or overly media praised talents that costs a lot of money.
However, when you look at successful signings that have had an impact in Europe's top leagues over the past 5 years, its usually a Premier League, La Liga or Serie A signing who plays for a mid table club. A player like Vitinha, Odegaard, Olise, Rafinha, Rodri, Semenyo, Tonali, Caceido, Guehi etc. Even with the expensive ones like Rice, there are a lot of people that didn't think he would be as good as he's been for Arsenal.
Point is, people prefer to see what they can wonder about more than what they think they know about. We also have a tendency to underestimate the Premier League teams around us. Mbuemo and Cunha are proof of the gems that exist within the league.
The other part of this, is that our fans are still stuck in the 2000's idea of looking at football. Its a squad game (tbf, its always been that way, even for us under Ferguson). City have been able to win with high point averages because they can sustain good performances week in week out due to the quality of their squad. Liverpool, despite having relatively average midfields have kept up with them due to the same thing. Arsenal lost Saka for most of the season, yet won the league with a squad of players that none of the attacking players were fantastic. Why? because they could maintain good performances every week. People overrate the value of superstar performances. Its great to have that in your locker, but winning the league is based on your floor, not your ceiling.
As a fanbase, its like noone learnt anything from our 10/11-12/13 squads.
In regard to what I'd like to see. I don't want Tchouemeni due to the potential price tag. I think Mateus Fernandes offers us more of a complete player ( which is more important for a 2 man base in midfield). I think him and Ederson are enough for now in midfield. If we can i'd pick up a really cheap or free third midfielder. I like the idea of Sommerville and I don't see Dorgu as a winger. Sommerville gives us flexibility on the left. Finally, I'd get a left back who is athletic that can contribute to the attack. A left back with a good first touch, which would help in our build up play. I think Mbuemo and Cunha can both back up Sesko. I'd also give Chido Obi and Shea Lacey a crack at entering the squad. I do think we'll see growth from both Amad and Sesko this season. I don't think we need a CB, but I do think we need to give Heaven a chance to be one of the starting 2 with Yoro and De Ligt competing to start with him. I actually think Martinez as a utility man would be great. I think there is more to him as a DM and If thought out properly, he could cover a multitude of roles from CB to Left Back to DM and get a lot of games.
