Aurelien Tchouameni | signs new contract til 2031, to be official after the World Cup

He is a different profile of midfielder to this guy, so surely only someone in the mould of Rodri would see him potentially surplus to requirements
The RM mouthpieces say that Jose wants to build the midfield around Valverde and Jude behind Guler so he may already be there.

No clue where Enzo would fit in that set up though

So true.

If the club's ambition can't stretch beyond Summerville and Berge as our targets, everything our CEO has been saying has to be considered a blatant lie. We're certainly not closing the gap to the top with those kinds of additions. Winning the title won't come cheap and we'll have to be prepared to compete in the market for the best players. Otherwise it's just a pipe dream.
I disagree, so often I read similiar comments to your own and it just reads like a lack of imagination or foresight.

My question isnt whether Berge should be signed, more how far away from him is Tchouameni? For the price He should be doing the basics of #6 but with elite distribution.

Will be interesting to see if Mario Cortegana tweets on this as he's considered highly reliable for Madrid. He did say Camavinga might be available in Transfer Dealsheet, however also insisted that he wanted to stay. There was no mention of this guy so does that suggest this journo still thinks he is part of plans for next season.

I’d assume Valverde and Fernandez at the base, Bellingham and Paz as the #10. Bernardo as wide right and depth.
Perez wants Olise so that’s the wide right with Vinicius on the left and Mbappe through the middle, Bernardo is much more of a central midfielder now he’s got older and fits with the reports of Real wanting midfielders more in line with Modric and Kroos.

So central midfield wise right now before Enzo inevitably joins them Real have Valverde, Bellingham, Bernardo, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Guler and possibly Chema coming back as well as Paz and that’s for three positions with Valverde and Bellingham considered as untouchable according to reports so of that list only Tchouameni would bring in decent money to fund Enzo and Olise.

Which makes it even more ridiculous because the performance was fine.
That is the whole point though. It wasn't a bad performance, but it was an eye-opener for people who thought we're getting a younger Casemiro (in terms of player profile). Which Tchouameni is not, despite being maybe even better defensively (maybe).

Tchouameni, M Fernandes and Ederson- absolutely solid rebuild to the midfield issue. Please get it done!

Problem is it might end up being Camavinga who we seemingly aren't interested in signing anyway
He doesn't want to leave by most accounts, not even for PSG

I'm sure Pogba will have warned Tchouameni about Jose

Pogba told him that Mourinho was a great man unless he thinks that you are overshadowing him.

Yeah Tchouameni needs to remember that interview with Varane, also speak to Casemiro too as they both loved it here and you would as well

Publicly yes but I'd love to know what he'd pass on behind the scenes

Publicly he's always diplomatic/respectful

Perez ruled out Olise though? Besides there is not a chance Bayern sell so it is pointless even thinking about.

I don't think that he was being diplomatic because he has nothing to gain from it. If he was still a relevant Footballer I would be skeptical, it was also a jab at Mourinho's ego.

The Madrid papers are pushing that their French NT players are spending the world cup trying to convince him to join

Probably warned him not to win the world cup if he wants things to stay good/peaceful in Madrid

That American muppetiers guy is convinced this is as dead as Anderson deal, so to see him have to move this guy back across the board would be priceless

This guy knows nothing. I wouldn't listen to a word he says. It's the same guy, who used to post on reddit with wild claims about all sorts of players.

It's a scam really. So don't fall for it.

Will he get a choice in the matter though, so what happens if this guy and Camavinga want to stay but Real need sale to fund a deal for Fernandez

Camavinga said no to leaving apparently, might be on the cards for United and Tchouameni id like Fernandes too and Hall.

That would be a top window.

Would be a fantastic window, however keep saying that getting this guy and Fernandes is too good to be true

I don’t know about anyone else. But I don’t see Camavinga selling for above £40m if you consider interest and wage.

So it will either be Tchouameni or Valverde for me.
Would happily take either of them, however didn't Alvarez say Mourinho wants to build midfield around Fede and Bellingham so that's says untouchable to me.

Seems like Real are shaping up to sell him in order to get Enzo and we're going to be the convenient choice for Real and honestly? I don't mind, he fits our pressing need, the right age profile and we'd have a midfield that we can contend with.

Would be ecstatic if we got him, however fully expect this thread to gain pages again after France's next group game on Monday night. Particularly if he doesn't drop an Anderson like performance

Are we getting our head turned here from the Fernandes deal?
Personally feel we would like to get both, however will this be a De Jong situation where price gets agreed but the player is unwilling to leave current club

No way we get both, Tchouameni is going for more than £70m, plus he'll want mega wages.

For now it's still unlikely he leaves Madrid but I wouldn't be so sure we wouldn't go for him if he became available. I feel like we always end up with a higher net spend than people expected before the summer started. From the positive media reports about our financials, it wouldn't surprise me if we end up close to like £200m NET spend after we sell Hojlund, Rashford, Ugarte, Zirkzee, Onana, Vitek, Bayindir (I accept some will probably end up loaned).

His wages could be an issue but I feel like if we were overly concerned about that, the interest in him wouldn't have got off the ground in first place, I'm assuming we've spoke to his agent already hence the noise.

2 expensive midfielders and a cheaper one (Ederson) is kind of what I was expecting before the window - that might end up in the region of £180m for the midfield rebuild. Fernandes ending up a lot more expensive than we initially thought might have thrown a spanner in the works though. The media were briefed we were aiming for £150m on midfield rebuild but they always undershoot it thinking it will help us not get rinsed on price, but we always do anyway.

Zirkzee's replacement we'll probably go for a cheap option and Bayindir's replacement we'll go cheap. Outside of the midfield I'm expecting either a LB or LW but not both, so that's the only major money I expect us to spend outside of midfield.

If it is looking like it is getting anywhere near the De Jong sitiuation then we should cut and run straight away , that was embarresing for us.

If the player is not excited and positive about the prospect of joining us then we are not a right fit.

It's fair to disagree, but what I said still stands. We're not closing any gaps to the top with those types of signings. Don't get me wrong, both players mentioned(Berge/Summerville) are decent footballers, but there's levels to this whole business of winning major trophies and it's always relative to the competition as well. And that competition is quite a bit ahead of us already and won't stand still just for us to catch up.

Someone like Tchouameni would also add much more than just his playing skills. The guy is used to winning and has played at the very highest level for several years now. Playing at Leeds, West Ham, Burnley or Fulham isn't comparable to that type of experience, which we lack in our team anyways.

Agree on the leadership angle.
But solely on playing ability can you answer by how much is he better than Berge? Or perhaps you can’t quantify it and are going off perception?

I personally dont know. I think many in this thread dont either. Perhaps Real Madrid do though. Similiarly to how PSG and Enrique knew Ugarte wasnt the one, Neves was.

I think Tchouameni would be good for us, im just not sure he’s 250k good, or good enough to back him on a monolithic 5yr contract.

We wouldn’t be in for him if we didnnt have signals that he’d be willing to join.

I would suggest it's that Tchouameni puts up much better numbers in interceptions/tackles, and forward/progressive passes.

I don't think you can take context out of it though. Berge has reached the age of 28 playing a lot in the championship and then Burnley/Fulham. Tchouameni has been starting for Madrid and France since his early 20s. For them to be the same level logically is just unlikely, though not impossible I guess.

Yeah replacing a proven winner from Real with another one would be amazing, however like @Dominos said it still feels unlikely he leaves Madrid. However when you think back to Mitten saying he was gettable, also Ornstein saying one to keep an eye on it's hard not to believe it's still possible.
