Still can’t help but shake the feeling he’s a midfielder.

Did very well with his box defending tonight and is smooth on the ball.

Where he will have to learn and develop is playing in a higher line and controlling the space better. It is where he has struggled previously but most young CB's do.

Plenty of potential there.

Yeah, he made 2 errors that resulted in goals v Bournemouth, when he has to defend space. When we are sitting in, he seems more comfortable.

Immense talent and we could see it from last season if I’m honest. He’s already maturing game by game.

So silky on the ball and immense in duels.

I think both he and Yoro look a lot better as the CCM simply because they aren’t experienced enough to be defending out wide. As a CB pairing in a couple of years I think they’d be great.

He was so fecking good, he's so composed on the ball it's insane.

Love this guy, far ahead Yoro for me at this point.

Crazy we managed to get him for such a low fee. arsenal academy has developed some real gems in the last years.

I think he's lacking that bit of something that would let him become a really top midfielder, but with his ability on the ball he could develop into a really top ball playing CB.

I've also been impressed with his ability in the air this season. Was one of the biggest question marks against him, but his aerial duel stats are getting very impressive.

Top talent, just needs to work on his positioning at times and he'll be world class in a few years.

Think he's come in for some unfair criticism recently. But I've been very impressed by him, thought he was very good tonight especially in the first half. He looks a bargain at £1m.

For me, he is currently ahead of Yoro. Had a few iffy performances after he came back from injury but have been very impressed with him so far.

It really seems like his lack of experience (positining) more than anything was what really done him against Bournemouth few weeks ago. On the contrary, he was an absolute unit today and showed that the talent is there.

Yep was about to post the same thing, I have him ahead of Yoro atm. We've got an absolute bargain here, quality performance tonight.

He was excellent today and had a good partnership with Martinez.
Hope he is not dropped when injuries ease up.

cool as a cucumber

This is already elite level evading pressure for a centre back. Already a very high standard.

The best I’ve seen do it was Frenkie De Jong when he played CB for Ajax.

Licha does it very well too. Stones in his prime was excellent.

He is fresh still, but his strengths are such that it’s hard not to see him play every game in a few years time. For now I think people should remind themselves that some periods ahead, he is going to look much worse than Yoro does atm. That is what being a young defender means.

I'm guessing his contract was running out rather than Arsenal thinking "let's flog this guy for peanuts".
It was compensation.

Us and Barca both went for him but I think we offered more assurances of first team football.

Class on the ball. Defensively still a bit sketch for me. Nothing he can't get over with a few years of experience under the belt.

How did we get him so cheaply?

He wasn't a senior player yet as far as I remember, they still had him on a scholarship contract and he was getting paid peanuts with no real route through to the first team. He was out of contract in the following window so we paid a compensation fee not a transfer fee.

That's where the 1.5m fee came from, I think IF he was on a professional contract perhaps the fee would have been more. Arsenal had offered him a new contract though, but I think no real path into the first team made him evaluate his options. It was between Frankfurt and us.

He had great game. He deserves that MOTM alongside Dorgu.

Very composed when under pressure. His ball playing is pretty good too better than Yoro IMO. He’s also very athletic, has pace, and good in the air. He’s perfect to be de Ligt backup. He’s improving every game.

Fantastic game. He started the season poorly, but he's been good since getting back into the team (I've got the unpopular opinion that, bar the first goal which was obviously a bad mistake, he was fairly good even against Bournemouth).

No matter who returns he should remain in the starting 11 until his form drops off. Which will happen at some point, much as it has for Yoro this season. But until then, let the others fight over the other positions.

Getting better game by game. I really like how willing he is to play a pass through the lines.

Was gonna mention Frenkie as well, but then thought maybe I'm overhyping him. Good to see I'm not the only one.
