Some good no-nonsense tackles in there. Good to see. With Shaw and Martinez' injury track records, it's certainly good to have another left-footed CB in the ranks.

When we first signed him I expected him to be lovely on the ball but a little bit soft, just based on what I heard.

It's a really nice surprise how strong and combative he is.

I've missed him, I hope he gets back up to speed and gets his place back because he looked very promising last season.

Hopefully now Amorim will start to give him more cameos, maybe even a start here and there

Only one of the subs who turned in an acceptable performance.

If Licha doesn’t come back well then we’ll need him to grow into his role quickly, that would save us hitting the market for a CB for a season or two (assuming Maguire extends).

Forgot to comment on that assist for Mbeumo at the end, which was not as easy as he made it look. I really like this player; he seems to have a high football IQ for someone young.

Very hard to come on and perform right away after a long time, but at least we got the game won. Hope he keeps proving he's capable and eventually replaces Shaw who is a starter with his experience but time is on Heaven's side and Luke won't stay fit, however unerstandably Shaw is getting the nod.

I hope he gets 20-30 minutes at least each game when Shaw gets subbed off. I really like the player.

Shaw was really good against Brighton, but if we are honest, he's been very hit and miss this season. He has had a couple of absolute shockers. At this stage, Shaw is most likely the safe bet, however. Let Hayden develop at his own pace. We actually have a very solid defense now both in quality and in numbers - Yoro, De Ligt, Maguire, Shaw, Martinez (soon back), Mazraoui, Hayden. Not bad at all. Hopefully he gets a fair bit of minutes and can develop into a starter in the not too distant future.

Looking at that pass and thinking are we absolutely sure he can't be a DM like he was as a youth.

I guess since Amorim plays him at LCB this is where he believes his position is but he definitely feels like a player who would be a great CM option in a few years. Good physically, defensively sound and a good passer.

With Martinez back, Ayden probably goes out on loan in Jan?

On the balance of probabilities, Martinez will pick up another injury between now and the end of the season so it would be brainless of us to consider a loan…especially when the other LCB is Luke Shaw

One game a week though. Not sure the kid will see much playing time.

But your point stands!

Is he injured?
He was on the bench so he is fit. But we're in a tricky situation.

We have no league cup games and no Europa games where a player like him would expect to get his game time.

We're also not good enough to risk rotating our starting 11 in league games and still expect to win.

We're also not good enough to win games comfortably so we can make subs in the 2nd half when the game is won (e.g. 3-0 up by 60 mins so you bring on some squad players). The only time we had a comfortable lead this season we almost blew it against Brighton after making subs.

I’d be loaning him in January to a championship side where hell play every week. Ideally one where they play a back 3.

With Martinez back, he’s not going to get much game time this season.

Might make some sense tbf, not sure if he'd be a guaranteed starter at any Prem side.

Makes sense. However, do that, and watch how Shaw and Martinez are instantly injured. Probably Mazraoui as well, thinking about it.

Is he injured?
He played 66 minutes for the u21 last week during their 1:4 defeat against Solihull Moors. I didn't watch the whole game but he didn't look good for one of their goals.

Touch wood but I think he's here because it's inevitable that one of Shaw or Martinez will get injured before the end of the season.

We have;

De Ligt, Maguire, Yoro, Shaw, Martinez, Mazraoui.

6 CBs for 3 positions. It's a bit of overkill for one game per week.

Agreed and if he was right footed or Shaw and Martinez were dependable I'd say 100% yo loan him. I'm all for good loans. I just have a feeling in this case we will still need him by the end of the season but hopefully not

I rate Heaven highly, and he should be given more opportunities. Doesn’t help we crashed out of the league cup and aren’t in Europe

Maguire is Maury prone now, obviously Martinez is. Shaw is an injury waiting to happen, as he rarely goes this long without one. Add in Yoro’s form, Maz goes to the AFCON - then we do need him as back up.

It’s unfortunate, but he needs to be there if/when we need him.

FA cup isn't THAT far away now though.

I went to that game - I thought he was probably the best player on the park by a country mile!

I think a loan would do him good to be honest. He’s going to get no gametime between now and May

Might need a loan with Martinez back. Maybe he can be cover for De Ligt if Harry stays injured.

Badass. He's at that weird point where he's way too good for the u21 but not entirely ready for the premier League. Needs a loan badly

Man Utd 1:1 West Ham New
We should be looking to flip him for a profit. I think there's much more talented young CBs around.

I thought he did well last season. But I'm not surprised he was a mess today. Thrown in and ended up playing central.

Why are so many footballers so unbelievably stupid and get themselves a completely needless booking early in a game. Ruined his chance within minutes as he then couldn't make a tackle and was inevitably going to be subbed early.

What an insane braindead tackle to make after 8mins.

The yellow card aside, he was alright, not terrible, but he was safer coming off for the second half.

Its only his 2nd start of the season I believe. Understandably,. he is going to be a bit rusty.

Interesting that Amorim trusts him more than Yoro at the moment.
