He shouldn't start for us full stop then. Martinez is probably far from 100 % yet, but would still have preferred him at 85 % today. He’s not a regular starter!
We have three players unavailable (MDL, Maguire and Maz), and another CB who his just coming off of a massive injury.
Squad players still play games!
The problem is, MDL, Maguire and now Mazraoui are unavailable. Unless we try a 4-3-3 with a CB pairing of Martinez and Shaw (or start Fredricson), we need to play at least either of themWe definitely shouldn’t be pairing him up with Yoro. Both are too inexperienced and I don’t think they are in good form either.
I think you are wrong. He shouldn't start for us full stop then. Martinez is probably far from 100 % yet, but would still have preferred him at 85 % today.
He did the same thing Martinez did for their other goal. Stood off and didn't follow the run goal side. With the ball he was pretty good but defensively he was awful, he just kept backing off and no idea what he was doing for their second goal.
This is the reality with a young player with limited experience though and if he is playing he needs to be at LCB.
That’s what happens when 2 of the 3 are teenagers in a confused mess of a defenceHis defending (or non-defending) for the first goal is genuinely some of the worst you'd see at this level. Really inexplicable.
Although, Somewhere Victor Lindelof was watching on with immense pride @golden_blunder
He even had Mount screaming at him to come across. Way too passive there, but he'll learn, for sure. I think he's going to the very top, something about him.It was a horror show from him tonight defensively, which is a real shame as he showed some brilliant composure on the ball early on.
The poor marking for the 2nd and 4th goals can be forgiven, young players are going to get caught out like that sometimes, but the first goal was inexplicable, there isn't a level at which defenders are expected to ignore opposition players and let them have the freedom of the box.

Heaven must be missing an angel, De Ligt. He's very young, has a lot of talent.
We just need De Ligt back desperately at present.
Yet the fanbase keep wanting to add more kids into the mix. Tonight is what happens (defensively) when there's not enough experience in key positions. That’s what happens when 2 of the 3 are teenagers in a confused mess of a defence
Ok but we have one of the best offenses in the league. Don’t bring that up while ignoring the other part. It’s disingenuousI like the lid but he’s nowhere near ready, especially to play central pivot CB, crazy decision by Amorim in last two games and he’s been hung out to dry.
In the same way we went to pick up Mbeumo and Cunha from middle PL teams and taking their best players, it’s time to do the same in defence and midfield.
If we are seriously going to indulge this coach and allow him to learn on the job which is basically what he’s been doing in the EPL for the last 12 months. Then we need to be ruthless.
Aiden Heaven should be 7th choice CB and work his way up over the next couple of years, Lenny Yoro should be 4th or 5th.
MDL should be 2nd, a fit Martinez 3rd, Harry Maguire 4th and Shaw/Mazroui putting them under pressure however we need a number 1 CB whose quick, physical and read the game, we need to spend £60-70m to get an absolute beast
The fact that we’ve kept 8 clean sheets in his 59 matches that he’s overseen is a reason enough to sack him before the next game. However conceding 26 PL goals in 16 matches this season after his awful period last year should be the reason to sack him.
Last year under Ruben his United team in 27 PL matches conceded an average of 1.55 goals per match, this season he’s actually made the team worse defensively with 26 goals conceded from 16 PL matches at 1.63 that’s a sackable offence, fans will defend Ruben but he picks the players, sets the team up and makes more defensive subs than any other PL manager,!
Let’s this sink in, we are worse this season defensively and Onana is not playing!
Yeah, for sure, but I think you could say the same for every CB we had on the pitch last night. Unfortunately we had little choice in the CB department. This will be a big learning experience for him, no doubt.
I was really impressed with him on the ball, he's got huge potential, but there's no hiding from him being probably the biggest reason for us dropping points tonight.
