What would be the feelings toward each team having a salary cap, like they do in the NFL?

Is this a knee jerk reaction to Chelsea - especially since this may affect us adversley, while benefiting teams lower down the table?

Before any Chav's or Arse's say this is sour grapes, don't forget that our spending power never pushed people out of the market entirely

It'll never work because english clubs would then be unable to compete against Europe. You can never expect such a cap to be implemented throughout Europe as there'd be widespread corruption

And it will still never work. How the feck do you intend to implement it on such a large scale. Besides, tradition and history of clubs would then mean feck all, which just isn't right, imo. This ain't Fooby

The tradition and history of clubs was founded upon a salary cap until the sixties. Unfair as it was, it did enable clubs to develop and hang onto their best players and created a more competitive and interesting league. Obviously, you can't go back to those times but some sort of realistic cap might not have such dire consequences and might actually force clubs to develop British talent. In fact market forces dictate that this happens in Holland, Greece, France etc. and they still have their share of success at both club and national level. The problem with the present situation in Britain is that once the golden goose of TV stops laying eggs many clubs with " tradition and history " will go under and that " just isn't right "
