Bailly and Lindelof as a center back partnership in the PL this season: 2.12 points per game

Lindelof and Maguire: 1.94

Bailly and Maguire: 2.25

This isn't a coincidence either - Bailly has been here for five seasons, had a whole bunch of different partners, and results have been better with him in the team than without each of those five seasons. The problem isn't that he's "levels below" Lindelof (he's miles better at most things and, at worst, equally bad in the air - Lindelof empirically costs more points by being a lightweight than Bailly does by being out of position), it's that he's made of glass.

Bring in a center back with Bailly's attributes capable of staying fit, stick him next to Maguire, and watch the whole team go up a level.

(other interesting stat: this was Henderson's first PL loss for United in 12 appearances, after picking up 29 points in the first 11. Looking forward to seeing him over a full season)
Er, what? As far as I know, we've only played Bailly/Lindelof in one PL game this season, which we lost. So, what do you mean 2.12 points per game?

How many games have we played Bailly/Maguire, and which ones are they?

This.
Maguire + Bailly is good.
Maguire + Lindelof is okay but not as good.
Bailly + Lindelof is woeful.

I see multiple patterns here - Maguire is vital and Lindelof is just...not good enough, I'm sorry to say.

In a European final no less. So illogical. We've seen Tuanzebe partner Lindelof and do better, allowing the latter to play in his preferred right side, and to top it off Bailly mouth offs again about wanting to be in the first XI a day before the match.

How in the world do they still get paired? I feel like this was an obvious mistake.

It was obvious Lindelof can't play the LCB role and has been the obvious weak link. It's ridiculous that Villareal chose to attack him and block off Bailly to get the shot. Absolute horrendous defender.

Maguire has been making him look good, while taking the criticism himself. Captain.

This thread is a pathetic attempt to save Lindelof from the first goal while Bailly did nothing wrong. Lindelofs fan boys should stand up and explain what people see in him.

When you know before a game that you'll concede a set piece goal, your defenders aren't good enough

Bailly has his moments, liek today when he tried to clear with scissor kicks but please, release that spineless useless guy living his dream. I have no doubt some academy players would be better than him. You just know he will lose crucial challenges game after game.
