According to various judicial sources contacted by MARCA, players and employees would have the right to rescind their contract in the event of an agreement to modify the contract on the grounds of financial reasons.

In short, a player or employee would have the right to leave the club for free and take with them 20 days' worth of earnings for each year they have served the club.

Sports men and women do have a special working relationship in the Royal Decree but, because this matter is not regulated by the Royal Decree, the conditions of the Workers' Statute would apply.

That means the players have the same rights as the club employees to rescind their contracts if they wish to once a new modification is put in place.

To avoid losing players for free, Barcelona will have to hold talks with each of them privately to reach agreements that prevent this.

Well this is a bit awkward considering all the drama about keeping Messi against his wishes - the guy who earns £100m a year. They should just tell them to feck off now.

Under a tree.
Interesting conversations to be had with Messi and Dembele considering they refused to let either leave...

Had Barca not been so petulant around Messi and had a plan, they could have probably got a fee for him (around 80m) and his 40m wages off their books which would have stabilised their finances. Now they are in the shit and he can maybe walk away sooner or definitely for free next year.

It will be interested when United start having these talks in the next 6-8 months. Will De Gea stay? Pogba?

yeah this will go down well with their players  such a dysfunctional club these past few years. They really are a mess under Bartomeu.

Flipping heck they are in a mess! I guess that rules them out of the Sancho race next summer!

It explains why they were so desperate to ship off Dembele to us for a permanent fee and not a loan.

They would sack their mascot, tea ladies, janitors... wouldn't they?

Bit of a kick in the teeth to their players to do this the moment the transfer window closes. They should have given players a heads up before, and if anyone didn't want to take the cut would be given the chance to transfer out. Not to mention they refused to Messi and his wages go earlier.

I would love to see a bunch of the bigger players refusing and walking away for free, and it would be interesting to see if Messi now uses as a way to leave as well.

They’re worse run than us, and that’s saying something.

Anyway, who we should poach who’d actually want to join us: Dest, Lenglet, Dembele, Griezmann. Messi, De Jong and Fati would never join us in our current state.

They should have sold Messi and they could had a bandage on the situation. Feck them and their club, I hope they become a fallen giant like AC Milan.

If only they had a guy earning around 100 million in wages per year who wanted to leave the club this summer. That probably would have helped with the wage issue wouldn’t it?

Wonder if Barcelona forums are even worse than United ones at the moment.

They've gone from the most celebrated team on the planet to an absolute shambles during Messi's career. It's quite spectacular. Then again, over the same period... glass houses and all that.

I don’t get it. Top flight football has become the most lucrative entertainment business over the past few years. Teams like Barca should have built some reserves and contrary to some other companies and business streams it is a fact that once things have gone back to normal the cash is going to be back.

We have our own problems with the wage bill.
No we don’t. Our wage bill is an easily serviceable less than 50% of turnover and clauses in contracts force players into a pay cut in none champs league seasons.
Ed can generate income very well, it’s just the football side he needs to brush up on.

From the world's envy during the days of Pep, La Masia etc to a complete trainreck. Good to know we're not the only ones to have fallen. Thanks, Barca.

Totally agree. But as we have seen with corona there are not many companies that have an extra account for a big crisis. A lot to learn in these days and a lot to be forgotten in a few years time.

The Caf loves using the word "circus" when describing other clubs, but in the case of Barsa, it really does apply. If it wasn't run as a quasi political association/syndicate, they would have taken other measures long ago.

They could have sold Messi for nine figures and between that and the savings on his wages, would have created an ample breathing room for until the pandemic is over.

That and they probably could have got £100 million from City for him. Next year he’ll just walk for free.

It's less than 50% of turnover in a typical season. Not in a season where tv, sponsorship and match day income is reduced due to the ongoing absence of fans.

People comparing us with them, seriously??Financially, we are run pretty well.

Our issues has been on-field. We are quite managed outside of it. Be it economically or via marketing .

At least Barca continue to compete despite the club falling apart. Doesn’t sound good though does it.

still, it’s probably media nonsense.

They've overly spent outside their means for a while now, they borrowed a government loan to buy Griezmann last summer, he's on €800k a week, Messi over €1m a week. Luckily they got rid of Vidal, Suarez and Rakitic as they were on obscene wages also.

It'll be interesting to see if they keep Messi beyond next summer, their individual TV deal money will drop like a lead balloon if he leaves and thats one of their main income.
