If we play 55 games, that's about 10,000 midfield minutes to be split between the two midfield positions.
- Tielemans played 2,500 last season, so it's reasonable to expect him to pull his weight
- Mainoo has never had a full season as first choice, but he's young enough that he should be available for 2,800+
- Santos also played 2,800+ when he was last first choice at Strasbourg
Which leave Mount who only every seems to be fit for around 1,000 minutes per season at United. His hamstrings should be less of an issue in a deeper role, but even if his injury record persists it means we'd only have to find other midfielders who are capable of filling in for around 900 minutes this season. Can a combination of Tyler Fletcher, Thwaites and Ugarte do that? Probably. Or possibly Hall (if we sign him) or Mazraoui? I think so.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I understand United's lack of urgency in signing another midfielder tbh. We'd likely be spread a little thin at times, but I think there are enough options to last till May.
