Pretty sure there are going to be custom servers, right? Battlefield has never been about skill based matchmaking, really.
They've said there's server based sbmm, which is different to cod's and less brutal. Not sure how that translates in reality?

With all due respect Veev I think you underestimate how hard this game is for casual FPS fans. I get the impression from the warzone thread that you at the very least a competent player and likely above average overall. I went into the Beta yesterday and I have never been so out of my depth in a video game. There was stuff going on all around, I didn't understand or know any of the mechanics and you add vehicles on top, and it's absolutely brutal for a below-average FPS player. Don't get me wrong that doesn't make the game bad, but you really have to be a decent FPS player to enjoy the game like this.
It's similar to Ground War on cod but with an even bigger map. I never enjoyed Ground War that much for the same reasons, but that did feel like you could influence a win more by going for the objective.

You'd probably get used to it pretty quickly. I just think the size of it and the amount of players, all trying to get kills means everyone is all over the place. Even if everyone was decent at the game I can't see being much different.

I personally can't see how anyone would enjoy this type of game more than Warzone, even though Warzone obviously has its issues at the moment. Battlefield was always sold as the more tactical shooter vs CoD, but there is no comparison vs Warzone, even just in normal pubs. Probably decent fun for those that like it for a little bit, but after that incredibly repetitive.

Just be a medic or support... This game isn't so much about K/D, moreso about objective play and team play. The side best at that, will win the match...

What do battlefield regulars think of it? Will it scratch my BF3/4 itch? I fell off once it went back to earlier wars...

When I say I was bad I mean baaaad. Like I spent 90% of the two games I played walking over massive distances and when I finally arrived at the action I was pretty much instantly killed by other players or most commonly taken out by helicopter gunners. It's a stunning game and a great simulation but utterly impossible for a casual or poor FPS player I reckon. As much as I bemoan Cod, Warzone was so accessible to get into.

It's real bad. I fired up BFV again had 10x times more fun with it, and that's the weakest entry in the Frostbite era (bar Hardline.)

Then there's this:

It's essentially no steps forward, several steps back.

You can drop in at different spots, closer to the action. But yeah, I accidentally dropped in miles away a couple times and begun the long distance fell running simulator.

Personally I find BF overall gameplay is far more rewarding and satisfying than COD. The 'open sandbox' gameplay that allows several different playstyles to succeed (focus on vehicles, being a sniper/recon, support or medic, or all-out assault) keeps the game fresh.

At least, that's been the case for past Battlefields!

I played 3-4 games of the 2042 beta. Pretty disappointed. I'm not concerned about the bugs/sound issues/UI stuff as that can/will be fixed.

The whole specialist thing is crap. Really struggling to see the logic in getting rid of the traditional class system for this.

Have you played Warzone though? I can completely see how CoD multiplayer vs Battlefield would be a thing for different people, but to me Warzone bridges that gap, and is far more enjoyable that any Battlefield game I've played.

It has potential. The flight controls are a nightmare to figure out though for someone who hasn't really played a BF since 4...

Might give this a go. Really got into Battlefield 3 a few years ago.

I was quite decent in the tanks. Loved taking down helicopters

Early access starts midnight tonight. Been really looking forward to this as I've become so fatigued with battle royales for the past few years.

Gotta say it looks great in this video and the portal feature just seems fantastic

Overall the reviews are pretty mixed though. Not sure they are onto a winner at the moment. The portal feature is easily their best feature and may just redeem the other elements!

It does look interesting but I suck at games and hate having to be the worst in a team, always feel like I've let a bunch of randomers down.

It's all PvP this isn't it? But I've heard them talking about AI teams too?

Ah just read about the AI, they join if game isn't full to make up the numbers basically.

I wouldn't have minded 104 players and 24 bots or something so I could atleast get 1 kill

Just been reading about SBMM, and how all the good/pro players moan about it  because they can't stomp the newbies? Literally crying that they're getting matched with people at their level

Yer twistin' my melon man!
Grabbed the Ultimate Edition just before midnight and have played a few games so far. I haven't played BF since the very beginning of BF4 and the only FPS I have played since then was Modern Warfare, so it was a definite re-learning experience, that's for sure, and I feel I need to play around with the settings a little to get a comfortable feeling game. It just doesn't feel good out of the box for me. There's obviously very few people on the servers at the moment but it's brilliant how they've added the re-done BF 1942, Bad Company 2 & BF3 content. Running on a Bad Company 2 server was a huge blast from the past and is something I think I will play a lot.

I will be on a bit later if anyone wants to squad up. Are you picking this up for PS5 @afrocentricity ?

Mate, it's Battlefield, it's just 700 people running around with no plan whatsoever. I don't think you'll be letting anyone down.

Yeh

That’s battlefields biggest weakness it’s just headless chickens running around with no real purpose and zero satisfaction if your team wins or loses.

Just play the objective! Heal teammates, give them ammo, hang back and provide recon etc. You can rack up points and be a huge help to your team that way, even if you aren't getting many actual kills.

Played 4-5 games last night and have to say I love it. Skipped BF5, but played a lot of BF1 and BF4 which I loved, and this feels the same. Probably not going to go down as as good as BF1 when we look back at it in the future, but still going to put down lots of hours on this. Added bonus is my brother who I'm currently living with also has it so being able to play with a friend all the time makes it so much more fun. Thank god for PS5-PC crossplay.

Graphics are incredible, guns feel great although maybe a little low damage. Buzzing to be playing Battlefield again.

Doesn't look great from the streams i've been watching how they have managed to let Call Of Duty off the hook when everything was in their favour is incredible.

I don't play that many shooters, but how does this work? Wouldn't that just lead to keyboard/mouse aiming PC players stuffing most of the console controller users?

That map with the massive ship is so fecking annoying. Otherwise it’s great (looking away from the bugs)

I'll buy this, because ultimately I love BF, and the addition of Portal looks absolutely brilliant.

But I'm concerned about the changes to the core gameplay in 2042. Had fun in the beta but didn't like the direction they seemed to be going in. I've watched a few videos in the last few days and still not sure what to think. There's some cool moments and additions in there, but I worry about the balance of specialists instead of the typical class system.

The new gametype might be its saving grace was watching a few streams last night and hazard zone looks really fun and actually gives Battlefield a winning goal instead of mindless mayhem!

So i gave in and bought it on PC against my better judgement.

I'm not sure what the console experience is like but it's an utter mess on PC performance wise for sure, i'd hazard a guess and say they have focused strictly on console optimization and left PC hardware as an afterthought.

Currently i'm hovering at between 70-100 fps depending on the action on the screen with DLSS and only running at 1080p resolution with a 3800x Ryzen 7 and a 3080. There's a huge problem with CPU optimisation as there is no way this is the performance i should be getting at the resolution with the hardware.

Some of the maps the graphics look great (basically the ones with foliage) the other ones look really bad, i feel like Battlefield V visually was a better game but its been that long i might just be imagining it.

Its a huge mess currently id advise anyone looking at it on PC to wait a bit and hope some patches clean it up especially if you are running lower specs then me as it will not be an enjoyable experience!

Anyone still waiting to jump into this tomorrow, intrigued to see peoples reactions to this absolute mess.
