Wonder if they'd be tempted by Mourinho?
Allegri is another obvious one
Would Guardiola go back in the summer?
Wenger till the end of the season?
Mourinho is considered damaged goods atm. He won't have a top of the crop club unless that club is in a critical situation, which is not the case of Bayern yet.
Allegri has much more chances of getting a top notch job than Mourinho atm.

Has Heynckes actually retired now? Feels like they'll just secure Ten Haag for next summer and just put a short term option in so that's when he usually steps in.

In theory yes, but 2 years ago he came back from retirement as interin. But now he's 74, dunno if he still has the energy / motivation to do it again. I'm sure Bayern will propose him either way.

I can only imagine Mourinho's reaction to Wenger appointment: "The specialist in failure gets a job before me!?!?!?!" :D

Will Wenger want to take over for a few months before they try to get Ten Haag next season? Or are they considering him for a permanent position? :houllier:
Wenger is 70 years old, not exactly the stage in life for a long term job commitment, unless you want to run for potus.

The first adjective that comes to my mind when describing Wenger's football is: naive. The kind of football that Bundesliga's pressing sides are drilled each week to exploit. Then again with Bayern's squad it doesn't need a tactical masterclass to be successful domestically, so who knows what would happen.

Half of France starting eleven is playing for Bayern, so it would make sense. How do you say The frenchies in german?

Was the most obvious choice from the beginning as I said a few days ago. Also he's the only one of the candidates mentioned that will be okay with a temporary appointment till the end of the season.

There might also be a part of him that thinks if it goes well then either he might get to stay (although I presume Bayern would already have a longer term appointment planned) or at least might show that he's still got more left to offer and at least in the short term it gets him back into management which he clearly wants.

Wai , where's Heynckes? Poor Bayern know he's always been the perfect man to manage them but he never wants to take over permanently

He's in far better physical shape than some Premier league managers and in all recent interviews he's shown no signs of slowing down mentally.

70 is not what it used to be.
That may be true but I can't imagine Bayern considering to employ him beyond the end of the season (not just because of his age) and I doubt Wenger is under any illusions of expecting a long-term contract.

He's been our 'permanent' manager twice out of his four stints at Bayern ;)

And Wenger is also fluent in German. That’s more than some Bavarians can claim.

"Ich hätte ihn fast unterschrieben."
unterschreiben = to sign something as in putting your signature somewhere

It does not mean to hire someone, however.

"Ich hätte ihn fast unter Vertrag genommen" works.

Your sentence translates to "I almost would have signed it (the contract)."

Sorry to ruin it ;)

I'm definitely in the camp thinking that Wenger, with the best players in the league and the relative freedom to play attacking football, could do a good job there.

At Arsenal, how did he deal with low defensive blocks and the rising importance of pressing? Because I think that would be key to be successful with Bayern in the BL.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I think they’ll concede plenty of goals but I also think they’d end up scoring plenty. Wenger’s weaknesses are obvious but I think his gameplay could work in a league where he has the best players.

I didn't mean to imply anything - it was an open question from someone who rarely watched Arsenal outside of the CL. Hearing more about Wenger's strengths & weaknesses is what I'm interested in, especially against teams who are drilled to park the bus/press and can do fast transition attacks.

I think Wenger would get butchered in the BL. He could never cope woth pressing and never really did it himself and German clubs are obsessed with this playing style. No coincidence it went only downhill for him when the EPL finally caught up in tactical development with the rest of the world.

In that Bein interview Wenger also said: "I nearly went to Bayern a long, long time ago."

SteveJ was correct after all...
