Belgium National Team Discussion

Hope they go all the way. That was the most beautiful victory in the history of football. Thank you Belgium for saving the sport.

They've overachieved with their golden generation over. Massive achievement.

Never expected this squad to get to the quarter finals. Spain is obviously an excellent team, will be extremely hard.

I'm enjoying this newfound fandom the world seems to have for us. After Senegal, everyone wanted us out of the world cup. Only the US can have that effect on people.

Yup! Im converted. The world of football was willing a Belgian victory ✌️.

2014: QF
2018: 3rd
2022: GS
2026: QF

They might not have won anything, but making the last 8 or further 3 times in the last 4 WC tournaments is pretty respectable. Only a few countries are more consistent over that time period.

They have won over more neutrals in the last few days than their golden generation ever did.

It's also crazy to think that in the 85th minute of their R32 match, their campaign appeared to be a train wreck, and their dressing room was a ticking bomb about to explode. Football is a funny game, indeed!

Trossard is quietly having a fantastic tournament. I believe Arsenal could get more than 20 million for him if they waited a little longer.

Still think they're shite in their current iteration, and I've got no particular interest in watching them play again, but they've done a great service to the world of football there. Good stuff.

They're not bad, they just can't rely on KDB, which they seemed to have learned when 2-0 down against Senegal. Since dropping him, they look much better.

If only Roberto Martinez had this same realisation with Ronaldo, they might have also been in the quarters facing Belgium

Not only him but also Doku, who on the back of a great season got dropped for not performing well.

Something Garcia also understood is that Tielemans is not a 6. You can't have him as your most defensive CM.

Raskin is crucial for the balance in our midfield. He might not be the most exciting name but it's one of the first I'd have on the team sheet.

I hope and I think that we will have quite some room to exploit on the counter attack, which ideally suits our speed up front. Doku and KDB can remain subs for me to make an impact if/when coming on. Team:

Courtois
Castagne Ngoy Mechele De Cuyper
Raskin
Vanaken Tielemans
Lukebakio CDK Trossard

Vanaken will have to put in the shift of a lifetime in midfield but I can't see no one else doing it at the moment.

Unfortunate for them as the injuries were starting to mount up. Was Lukebakio injured too?

I take back my earlier criticisms- I think if they could have held on until extra time they might have forced their way and eventually won on penalties.

Had to play a 49 year old Witsel after 57’. Tielemans injured, Courtois out, Lukebakio injured. Such a shame, because this Spain side isn’t it.

They will look back on those Martinez years as a complete waste. They could have done something special with the right coach. In the end, a decent showing in this version with a few of those fading stars and a new generation.

Losing Onana, Tielemans, Courtois and then KDB was too much.

QF against Spain was the goal. They got there and didn't look terrible. Even if Spain were clearly the better team.

I don’t follow them but seems Garcia has done some good work with them.

Very, very likeable bunch... even this iteration without Hazard. Kind of cheered for them out of last 8 teams.. Spain were clearly better but they got unlucky with Courtois injury and I really wish I could see where would that KDB long shot went if there was no block with keeper in no mans land.

All in all, well done.

Didn't think Witsel was still playing, never mind still being available for the international team.
They really missed Tielemans and Onana in midfield.

Both their leftbacks impressed me. Yamal still trying to cut left.
To be fair, I think Yamal has been playing at half speed all tournament. Seems like he's been rushed back from injury.

Axel Witsel was a blast from the past.

Lukaku spent a lot of last season not being fit for Napoli despite working on his fitness. How is he still so unfit?

This.

Had a fantastic evening, lots of emotions, might be very drunk.

At least these guys give their all. That's all we can ask from them. They aren't the best team in the world, but they'll fight. I love that
