I’m surprised how much Chelsea have paid for him.

I used to go on the Foxes forum during our end of season run. Leicester fans used to regularly dig out Chilwell for being shite and how he was over rated. A lot of them would even question what he offered the team as they saw him as a weak link.

I’ve not watched him at close hand myself but Leicester fans seemed to be very underwhelmed by him last season.

Agree. Alonso is really good for them and imo no worse than Chilwell. Could be a home grown quota thing though which could suggest some of their other youngsters may lose their place in the squad
Alonso appears to be a lot like Willian in that he is seemingly rated a lot higher by opposition fans than Chelsea's own fans. He's an awful LB but a decent funtional wing back. In a back 4 Chilwell is an exponental upgrade.

Money won't be a matter because he is English hence 10-15 mn + always on the cards. What Chelsea need from him always be solid five year of performances may not be spectacular but solid.

I won't be surprised if he worked out very well for Chelsea. Left-side he will play with kovasic/mount and pulisic as left sided attack which naturally will work as multiplier of his ability. We will find out he is dud or good sooner than later.

They're either only pretending to rate Alonso as a way to shit on the Chilwell signing or don't actually watch Chelsea much and see the odd highlight of an Alonso goal.

Yup how many times we witnessed whenever opponents attack through his side our eyes search where is Alonso to stop this but Alonso tried jogging back to reach his position meanwhile opponents either score the goal or missed an easy opportunity.

Yeah, i liked what Willian brought but Pedro was the better player for the right hand side (especially when the team was on form and functioning), commentators and pundits use to go mental whenever the latter was picked, it was truly bizarre!

Idk most Chelsea fans really underrate Alonso. There is an absurd win stat with and without him. Coincidence? However he is not the most pleasing to look at because of his speed but he got great strength and is good in the air, rarely loses the ball and got a sweet left foot which bangs in goals. Mentally he is strong too and thrives under abuse of opposition and handles big games well.

If you would look at the conceded goals you won't find him many at fault it is just against lower midtable teams he loses concentration and sometimes get caught which he then can't recover of his pace but unlike many here i think he can play in a back four when he sticks to the game plan and concentraits. It worked under Sarri at the beginning of the season and mostly under Lampard too.
His past thou will always leave a bad mark on him.

Nonetheless Chillwell will be a good addition.

A lot of money to spend to buy one of two left backs subbed on in the 90th minute. I like that about Tuchel, though. He backs himself, safe in the knowledge that there's nothing surer than death, taxes and Chelsea managers being paid off to piss off.

Chilwell has been generally quite poor as a wingback this season. He's absolutely a better option if we're facing pacy opposition, but in general he's been unsuited to playing high and wide this year in possession.

The conception that Chillwell was special going forward has always puzzles us at Leicester. He was known as “Checkback Chillwell”, owing to his habit of running down the wing very quickly, before checking back, passing it back to the centre backs. It was an excellent deal for us. I can honestly say that I wouldn't swap him for any of the three first choice full backs we have now.

I think generally he's pretty good at everything but doesn't excel at anything (except aerially, where he's elite). That's fine if you want someone steady in a back 4 (which we very badly needed), but in a more specialist role like wingback in Tuchel's system where he's relied on in attack some of his mediocrity stands out.

Didn't he have a flying start to the season in terms of productivity?

What was Maguire known as at Leicester? Because I feel like you’ve upgraded on him too.. :/

Leicester fans seem to do this - good players suddenly turn out to be mediocre (and where always considered as such, even if they weren't) as soon as they leave the club. And their replacements are of course massive upgrades.

There were jokers around here who were laughing there arse of when some of us claimed how Shaw is more talented and better than Chilwell.

I don’t see any Leicester fans calling Kante or Mahrez mediocre to be fair.

Yes he was very good from the off and looked settled, but that was when we were playing a back 4. In terms of his attacking game, for me Chilwell's strengths are his ability to cross from deeper positions and attacking the far post. Given how adventurous Lampard was being with our fullbacks, that catered to him.

At this point though under Tuchel, the wingbacks are more responsible for maintaining position high and wide to stretch the defense, and Chilwell has struggled with this. I don't think he's particularly good at carrying the ball, at attacking space, or at playing quick combinations to retain possession, and all three of these attributes are key to play wingback under Tuchel. That said, he's still miles better defensively than Alonso and was valuable in our recent matches against Man United and Liverpool given his ability to recover against counters.

To be fair, many of them were completely unbothered by the repeated links between us and Chilwell last season.

Sorry mate, but not many would take him back in place of Fofana or Syoncu, nor Evans for that matter. Much more useful to us. Harry is a good plsyer, and a good player, but most reds I know, think that we got the absolute deal of the century in that one. I wish him well, same goes for Kante. Mahrez is world class, but. Self centred, mardy sod.

Southgate will have blood on his hands if he chooses to play Chilwell over Shaw this summer, has he been better than Cresswell? He is a decent LB and will surely improve when he gets more time, but he has been nowhere near worth his fee so far. Other teams get away with it though.

Keeper
Reece James/Kyle Walker - Stones - Maguire - Shaw
TAA - Henderson
Sancho/Sterling - Foden/Grealish - Sterling/Rashford
Kane

This should be one of the best if not the best XI available this Euro's in my opinion.

 Sonyuncu being the best in the league after VVD was a great one. Still gets me.

If they signed for us they would!
Well Chilwell signed for Chelsea & they didn’t care, Kante signed for Chelsea & they cared a lot. It’s not a United thing.

Maybe they really just didn’t think that much of Chilwell?

I want their opinion on Maguire. Any Leicester fans around? Let me know what you think of him. Ta.

TAA has never played in midfield in his senior career & you want to start him there in a major international tournament over Declan Rice who has had an excellent season?

No chance we can afford to play him at rb. He can't defend.
We could just not play him? That is an option. He’s not Harry Kane is he. He’s hardly undroppable & we have many options at right back.

GK
James Stones Maguire Shaw
Rice Henderson
Sterling Foden Grealish
Kane

With Rashford, Sancho, Mount, DCL, TAA etc as subs. That’s a good team

Yeah, Rice has been excellent but think Rice and Henderson is a bit too much. England need that passing range that Trent provides. I'd like to involve Mount somewhere as well, but no place. England is so stacked, unreal.

Shaw and Rashford are gold on the left, Gareth isnt taking that away.
Foden could drop back for Henderson in a midfield diamond, move Jack inside and have Rashford up left.
You cant take Rashfords goals out of the side, not in a cup competition.

I have not seen a great deal of him I'll be honest but I'm not particularly impressed when I've seen him this season. Seems to lack pace and I don't think he's particularly impressive on the ball especially passing wise.

What’s so funny? They’ve improved enormously since they sold him. They concede less goals & have gone from midtable to Top 4 contenders without him.
And that's because they sold Maguire is it? Trolls gotta troll.

I didn’t say they improved because they sold Maguire. I said selling him hasn’t negatively effected them & they have actually improved since his departure.
No you didn't. You said they upgraded on him. Then when I laughed and you asked what was so funny, before saying they've improved enormously since selling him. Or are we to believe those two statements are not connected? You said absolutely nothing about negatively effecting them, you've just added that on now in the hopes it'll go unnoticed.

Have Leicester improved since selling Harry Maguire. Yes or no? Do they concede less goals now than they did with Harry Maguire. Yes or no? If you replace a centre back & proceed to substantially improve your points tally & concede less goals, is it fair to say you’ve upgraded. Yes or no?

They were hardly midtable before, they were always competing for European places.
Harry Maguire joined Leicester in 2017. Their league finishes is 17-18 & 18-19 were 9th and 9th. Is 9th not midtable? Since his departure they have finished 5th are currently 3rd. Is that not obvious improvement? If Maguire was the colossal centre back many on here think he is, Leicester wouldn’t substantially improve after selling him.

I wasn't arguing against your improvement point just the mid table positions but clearly I was wrong as I thought they finished higher. They have improved as a team since then including in other positions especially midfield and therefore that has helped with the defence. Its not as simple as Maguire leaving and they have improved.
