Bendito Mantato

Great news! One of the most exciting players coming through the academy at the minute.

Could also be ideal as a wing back in Amorims system, be interesting to see if he gets some game time in pre season.
 
Big statement of intent from the club here, good to see. Would expect him to be in the tour squad and maybe make his debut before the end of the season.
 
I hope he gets a chance. There are clear areas he could improve, sometimes his finishing doesnt look that strong but he has pace, athleticism and will run the ball at defenders looking dangerous and has experience both at fullback and on the wing. For me it wouldnt make a lot of sense to spend a big chunk of money on Dorgu but not give Mantato some chances. So I have faith we'll see it happen

Mantato and Dorgu won't be in competition with eachother. Mantato will be a right sided option.

I didnt say they were. I said that it doesnt make sense to go out and spend a lot on someone who is quite fast and athletic for the wingback spot if you arent going to give fast and athletic young talent you already have a chance.

Now that Dorgu has played some games on the left and Amorim seems to have him pegged there, its even more likely that Mantato might get a go on the right which is where he's played for the majority of his games as a winger and where hes shown most of what he can do in attack.

Interesting technique
 
For those who've seen a bit of both of them, how would you compare Mantato and Kamason, if they were to be developed into the RWB role?

I don't pay nearly as much attention to youth football as pre madness of fatherhood so take my opinions with a pinch of salt.

But from what I know Kamason is right footed, Mantato left. Kamason is more of a natural full back, but very energetic and eager to get forward, whereas Mantato started at left back before moving to more of an inverted right winger position, and is the more natural attacker of the two. Both are energetic and pretty good physically for their age. I don't think either would struggle with the physicality of mens football to the same extent that Amass might for example.

I think they could both be moulded into the wing back role successfully, depending on what Amorim wants. In the past he's liked inverted wing backs who play more offensively, ala Quenda, in which case Mantato would seem the obvious fit.

I like the look of Kamason though, hes lively. And I guess i'm old fashioned in the sense I quite like full/wing backs to match their strongest foot to the side they play on.

Kamasson is a rightback with some speed and can pick out a good pass. As a rightback he can defend, sometimes he uses that pace to get back and bail out other defenders

Mantato is a right winger who has also been picked at leftback. He's also fast and perhaps faster than Kamasson, but more of a dribbler and has quite good end product even though at times his finishing isnt great. Overall he still gets enough chances to get assists and goals

Mantato would be a more attacking option. Despite being picked at times at leftback I cant say I've really seen any determination to win the ball and solidify himself as a defender. So defensively he'd probably have some holes

Kamasson would be a more defensive option. Less success taking players on and beating them one vs one, less goals and assists but when the opposition has the ball he might make a good tackle, interception or covering run to help out the defence
 
If anyone can play in an Amorim system you’d have to say it’s Mantato, he seems made for one of the wingback roles, really, really talented kid - hope he gets a sneaky debut before end of the season

I think based on how things have gone, he'd have to at least be on the bench a game or two before we consider that he makes a debut. The fact that he hasn't makes me doubt that he will this season
 
As per the gutter press Amo really likes the look for this guy and he is not far off from debuting for the first team. Seen the story a couple of times in the last few weeks.

He’s been out injured for the past little while which is probably why he hasn’t been making the squad.

Would be nice. If there's a guy in the academy you'd say looks a natural for the wing back role it's Mantato. Scanlon as well, perhaps, although Mantato's defensive side is more developed I think. Has played at full a bit I think.
 
I thought he was older, but just turned 17 in January. Our very own Saka.
 
Muppetiers (many don’t like him as a source. I do) says that Mantato would be featuring in the first team squads but the club are waiting for him to sign a pro deal first, which should be imminent as it’s already been agreed.

Mantato is talented - but he impresses in small moments in games, which is to be expected from a fairly young player - but there are players at this level who stands out more than Mantato, and more frequently.
