We dont have a striker who holds it up better and I'll take goalscoring over pressing. I want to see goals
I agree, but if we don't have someone who can hold up the ball, we will struggle to create - we saw that tonight. It's a catch 22 with him at the moment.

I dont think many strikers would be able to hold the ball up with the balls he got today

Fair enough, I do. I feel like I watched Solanke deal with much harder balls in the game before and other strikers seem to do a much better job than Sesko in that regard.

He looks like a 16 year old in 6'5 body. It seems he does not know how to properly use his frame to win free kicks or hold the ball up. Just constantly let midget defenders bully him. Josh was far better in little time than him to actually influence the game.

His offensive awerness and off the ball movement is quite poor for a striker.

I feel like Bruno and, in recent times, Amad have to constantly be on his case throughout the course of the game because he just does not make the right runs, or any for that matter.

The instinct and intention just doesn't seem to be naturally there.
But, saying that, he's generally good when he comes deep.

Absolutely nowt service-wise today, but felt like he didn't compete enough considering the game-state. The lack of edge is a real thing with him.

No killer instinct. Once on the fast break, I thought he was going to open his body and shoot but went for the pass. Although may have been the right choice, I wish he just unleashed a shot once in awhile.

There is was a run where I felt he could have done better but I also think he had some nice layoffs and inter play with Bruno so don’t fully understand all the criticism

He played a big part in the goal as well with his awareness to make space for Cunha

Agree with this. I won't criticise him too much as service in a game like that will always be thin on the ground. But even with that said it still feels like there's something missing.

Teams come to old Trafford, stick 10 men behind the ball, and you still notice their number 9 making himself an absolute nuisance all game. They're still an outlet to find and let some pressure off the defence. All I can think is we deliberately aren't using him that way because we don't want to or don't think he can do it. Calvert Lewin on Monday for example, imposed himself on the game in a way Sesko doesn't seem to.

I think people are often overly critical of the striker after games like yesterday. Overall the team was poor, we had very little possession, and we were not very effective on the counter.

Sesko did some things alright, other things needed to be better. I don’t think it was some disastrous performance. He had little to work with.

It was a difficult game for a striker. He had absolutely no service and he didn´t help himself with his depth runs either. If he had been furious screaming for the ball and shit housing, I would have let that pass though, but he did not do that either. He was just anonymous with no attitude and no grit. That is not enough. It is tome to put Cunha back at 9.

This guy clearly has ability and the physical attributes needed to succeed but he really lacks intensity and aggressiveness. I’m sure he’d dominate in Portugal but unfortunately I doubt he’s gonna make it here.

The game yesterday and multiple times this season he just doesn’t press with commitment and tenacity we need.

He has scored quite a lot of goals. He is young and it is only his first season here.

Clearly he is raw and would have benefited from playing another year in Germany, but he is talented and he has performed better than other strikers that moved for big money last summer.

Ultimately Bruno's balls in were to Cunha coming from the back post instead of to Sesko. On the actual goal he's blocked off by the defender, but the defender paying that attention to block him off partly allows the ball to run for Cunha to score the winner. I think its very harsh to criticize Sesko when the balls towards him were so poor and the only 2 good ones we put in were to the left winger instead and Sesko played a part in the winning goal. Also we saw a moment where he took on Caicedo and flew past him showing some improvement in one on one dribbling - unfortunately Sesko was being a team player and laid it off to iirc Bruno afterwards instead of going for a solo goal after having created the space to shoot from range. But at least its an improvement from where hes looked weakest this season, being given the ball up against a defender and not doing enough to dribble or move the ball to make space and get a shot away.

I know he’s young and it’s his first season but my mind is made up already from what I’ve seen. As someone said, he’s like a child in a 6ft 5 man’s body. He’s scored some decent goals but they’ve really just papered over the cracks, all in all he’s looked atrocious if we’re being honest.

I suppose your comparing a young striker cutting his teeth in his first season jn the Premier League to a seasoned striker in the Premier league who up until the last few seasons has discovered how to score goals. I'm expect Sesko will learn a lot and next season you'll see a much improved player.

This is the issue with going for youngsters, they're not the finished article and its up to the coaching staff to develope his weaker points

We’re not really set up to supply him. There aren’t the cross, the early balls. We play like a team that hasn’t been told we have a front man.

Timid footballer.

If he thinks he can keep fooling people with his fake attempts on the pitch, then good on him.

Happy to be a footballer and yet to understand he has to compete.

He has our best goals to mins ratio and is joint top goalscorer at 22 with 800 mins less than the other guy (around 8.8 full 90 mins)

Yes hes a footballer yes hes doing extremely well for a young player

Not absolving his shit performance, but he got basically zero service, like none, not even Bruno created anything for him to attack, again he should create something for himself at times and should use his physical gifts to dominate CBs and so on, but then lack of service is an issue for any striker

The word timid is used a lot to describe him and I would agree for the most part. He doesn't really have that killer instinct to run through defenders and make life difficult for opponents right now.

But the positive news is he has all the technical and physical attributes to be a top CF. If the issue is mostly psychological, that is something that can be resolved as opposed to him having a poor first touch or lack of pace which would be more difficult to remedy. Needs to step up next season and he has the tools to do so.

You’d probably enjoy watching his fake attempts but I don’t.

There are many younger players with lesser experience around not ambling around and pretending to be closing down opposition or leaving the ball with the defender upon any sign of pressure.

He's a seasoned European striker though, two seasons worth of football in the bundesliga. There are fundamentals he should be better at, I'm not comparing them over all.

That was always my reservation with him and why I originally wanted Watkins. As first seasons go, it's been alright. He's not ready to lead the line for us this season. Hopefully next season.

Did ok yesterday. Played a role in the goal, held up the ball okish and played some nice balls. Nothing to shout about but also no reason for criticism

So you think his goals are faked.

Making your mind up so hastily is a bit ridiculous.

I have very little doubt that I’ll revisit this a year down the line and nothing will have changed. I’d love to be completely wrong however.

Everything wrong with football fans summed up in one post.

I know he’s young and he’s scored some goals but he’s shite and nothing will ever change my mind, apparently strikers scoring goals now isn’t them doing their job, it’s just papering over the cracks of being shite.

There's been this weird reflex to underrate our young players over the last decade. Why is hard to say, maybe the Class of 92 set such a high bar that no other of our young players can ever be so highly rated, or maybe it's something else. Whatever it is, it's not just a problem with slating Sesko.

But I really like the sarcasm of outstanding performances just papering over the cracks of being shite!

The poster is 19 to be fair.

If you just take non penalty goal rates per minute in the pick league he is already top 5.
However, Danny Welbeck is 4th so .......
