But I'm discussing his overall play, so that's why I was looking at that particular stat. He also gets dispossesed less, wins more fouls, etc. I'm not arguing against Sesko's aerial ability, that's never been in question.

I'm not, it's about effectiveness. If you can't pass and play like Joao pedro, you should score more.

I don't care in the sense that if Sesko was our penalty taker, I wouldn't discount them either. He didn't even take one against Grimsby. We've had 4 pens this season, if he had taken and scored all 4, I'd be happier too. My argument is purely output.

That's fine, but we're not going to play or press like Leipzig. That was peak Red Bull, he has to be a bit smarter in how he presses.

If he scores at the same mpG rate whilst starting, this will all be moot from me and will happily scoff that humble pie down.
He did take a pen against Grimsby, and scored it too.

I think that was my favourite goal of his so far. Purely for the fact he’s been in that situation a few times before, rushed it and missed. Instead he took an extra deft touch to bury it. He’s shown a lot of progress in the time Carrick came in and he’s still really young. If he works on other elements of his game like he has with his composure then he will be a very very important player for us over the coming years. He’s already scoring huge goals at 22. Excited to see how he does next season

I’m definitely not interested in comparing stats that way, I’m just showing you that strikers have different qualities to consider. Do you actually realise what difference it would make if Sesko increased his pass completion from 69% to Pedro’s 77%? It’s 19 made passes over the space of 29 games. Not even one extra made pass per game.

I can’t even be bothered with the discussion around penalties to be completely honest. It’s painfully obvious why that is a caveat when looking at a striker’s goal total.

I guess we’ll see what total he ends up on at the end of the season, but given the shitness of the team till January, and the lack of minutes he was given while adjusting to the league, it would be an absolute miracle if he scored 12 non-penalty league goals. And the underlying stats would back that up.
That's fine - I know. There's context to Pedro's 77% though as he also makes double the sucessful passes Sesko does.

I didn't bring up penalties, you're the one using to downplay Thiago's output, which is your preogative.

I don't think it woudld be a miracle, but it would be a great first season return and I hope he does it.

Yep, I responded in another post. Got that one wrong.

Happy with his first season, just want to see one of those blasters he scored at Leipzig
Yes! He's scored a very good range of goals, almost every variety being represented. Just not his "specialty", the corkers... Why are you denying us, Ben?!

You can see how confidence is starting to give him a cutting edge.
He's starting to throw his weight around and as he grows in confidence he's gonna be a real handful.

I'd love for us to invite Ibrahimovic along to pass on some wisdom.

The array of finishes he has is fantastic. It’s like Torres at Atletico before exloding at Liverpool.

I’m excited to see how he will use the summer to improve (with Slovenia not being at the WC), he’s not the type to drink beer at the beach.

My biggest concern with him before he came was that it would take time before he scored goals, and he’d miss sitters here and there as he’s young.

The guy’s just been very stable and scored some vital goals. He hasn’t crumbled under the pressure at United, like many players do.

Way better option than Højlund both as a target man and as a station to play the ball off. He’s explosive for such a tall guy.

Promising times ahead.

I like him and think he's had a decent season all things considered. His instinctive finishes have been very good, but has let himself down a lot when he's had time to think. His goal the other night was very good in this context, showed great composure to sit the defender down and finish.

One thing the irritates me is the complete lack of aggression in his game. For someone the size he is and how quick and powerful he is he should be an absolute battering ram, but so often he gives defenders an easy ride. I'd never really watched him before United, just knew him be reputation so maybe I'm wrong and it's just not his game but if he just takes the intensity up a notch or two I'm sure he'd score more goals and help the team hold onto the ball better.

Happy with his first season and you can see how he'll develop. The biggest thing for me is he needs to put on some muscle this summer as he's far too lean.

Its about balance. He needs to be physically like Lewandowski, who would be a great reference point, and less like Lukaku.

Rasmus had a decent first season too, so let's hope Sesko kicks on and doesnt fall from a cliff like the former. But overal we can be happy, even though he's still far from finished article.

Plenty to improve on but his goal tally is ticking along nicely, and with huge breaks between matches, it’s no surprise some of the players are performing hot and cold.

If Sesko will be provided with increased variety of crosses, next season, I'm almost calm about him.

Sometimes teammates just have to play to his obvious strengths.

Just give him the ball in the box and he'll score goals for us. There's a very decent striker in his boots. Not Ruud or Wayne level decent, but decent enough to get us through tough matches. But we will need to rely on Cunha and Mbeumo to chip in with 12-15 goals each next season if we're really going to make a sustained assault on the PL and CL trophies.

Hes been good this season. Had some shots right at the keeper early on in the season or else he'd be far and away ahead of everyone on goals scored.

He is showing more presence and strength. Also, his build up play is improving, some nice moves and flicks here and there. Hopefully next season will be a proper breakout

He's got great composure in tight spaces, and he was quite aggressive against Brentford, but he just needs to do it more often and take defenders on.

His idol is Zlatan. He needs to embody some of that same big dog energy when he's 1v1.

Solid first season. No complaints from me.

Agreed. Struggled in the first half of the Season. He was missing quality chances back then. But he's looking more settled and confident now.

At the same time, have to be a little cautious as young players tend to have second season syndrome. But he's clearly got quality.

He was the most likely to be a flop at the beginning of the season, and wasnt looking particularly great until Amorim was sacked, but since then he's pretty much been as good as we could have possibly wanted. 9 goals since January, lots of them winners or levelers, top scorer in far less games than the other signings, and most of his finishes have been first time for impressively technical... If he'd have performed consistently across the season he'd be the signing of the summer, so cant really complain at all.

Next season is when we find out if it was a fluke, and more importantly whether he will continue to go up a level until his peak. Could still quite conceivably hit 15 or near enough this season, so should be looking towads 20 in all comps next year

All of the arsenal fans on reddit lamenting the fact they should have signed Sesko instead of Gyk. Makes me happy Sesk is getting recognition.

I love young Benjamin but I’m probably more biased as my wife is slovenian. I would like people to remember he’s still very young and is still developing.

However if we buy another out and ot goal scorer who’s 29-31 like Ollie Watkins or Ivan Toney especially Toney I only see Sesko improving massively.

He has all the attributes ;

1. Tall Will fill out
2. very quick
3. High Football IQ
4. Both footed
5. Great hold up play
6. Great movement

Now if we add Toney or Wellbeck as an alternative option and let him link up with Mbeumo again, Sesko ceiling is clearly higher but he will learn a lot from Toney and in some games we can play both in 4312 442 or 4132.

Let’s hope he scores a few more this season and then after a good break since he’s not playing World Cup, he’s then fully ready at the start of the season.

He might only ever be say a 15/20 goal a season striker but he'll score 10 goals a season that will be crucial winners/equalisers.

He hasn't learned much over the past three years, why should that change? And Toney? What is he better at that Sesko could actually learn from him?

His link up play and movement, Toney is vastly underrated and I think to say he hasn’t learned a lot over the past three years is a little unfair!

We should have a few easier games in the cups and even in the CL early on. Hopefully this helps everyone get back to their best as soon as possible. With confidence this is a solid group of players, when things go wrong... it doesn't bare thinking about. I think we will be fine next season and I think Sesko will keep improving. I'm happy we've went out and bought the best young striker available twice in recent years and canned Rasmus instead of sticking with a failing plan. That shows genuine sporting ambition and that makes me happy. If we are as ruthless with every other department for the next few years we will be in great shape again

As per the eye test, Sesko’s first season has been a lot more impressive than Hojlund’s.

I think he'll benefit from a settled system when the new manager comes in, whoever that is.

Looked like he may have ben carrying an injury early season, then was eased into what is a very difficult league. Then Amorim went and it was all change - which seems to have benefitted him.

Very sold first season. No issues with his physicality and the composure will hopefully come.

Man Utd 3:2 Liverpool New
United needs a SECOND striker. The main reason Liverpool got back in the game today is because United had no striker when Sesko went out. United should look to Tottenham for competition for Sesko. Either Richarlison Or Muani. A second striker is as pressing and important as a midfield or defence reinforcement

I thought he was good today and was being a nuisance. Should have buried the chance before his goal.

Not the greatest goal but I'd say that was his best performance. Big outlet missed when he went off.

We were terrible without him. Looked like he might have been fouled before he scored where he got a bit of fortunate from the goalkeepers mistake but regardless 11 league goals now

Any words on his injury? We'll be missing him with the "form" Mbeumo currently is in...
Let's hope it was just a precaution.

Non-Penalty Goals in the league for new signings outside the PL

Gyokeres- 11 (2117 minutes played)
Ekitike- 11 (1811 minutes played)
