Funny thing is the opposite is going on as well. Loads of people acting like Sesko is absolute mint and isn't the problem, he just doesn't look good because of how we set up. But simultaneously saying with total confidence that Hojlund is shit and if he succeeds in Napoli its only cause the italian league is shit.
Interesting, who has said he's absolutely mint?

A big improvement on Hjolund for me. This boy can at least win a header, hold the ball up. Frustrating to see us not firing in a cross or two, he had the beating of Dias in the air.
We fired plenty of crosses in, problem was they were mostly shit crosses that never came close to him

It's quite clear he has a better first touch than Hojlund and holds the ball up better, but he has the same problem, inadequate service

He'll really benefit from having Bruno behind him as the prime creator.

But alas, the manager has other plans

I was wondering during the game if these were indeed crosses or some long passes to the wingback because they were laughably bad.

1. There’s a heat map on the same page which does show where he is most of the time. Unfortunately, it’s very hard to prove movement, unless someone has clipped his runs into a small video. You were the one who stated that better movement = more touches.

2. Yes obviously I’ll compare that way, because that’s the only game Sesko has started. It makes complete sense to compare directly vs the same opponent. I could go back and compare to an average Hojlund game, but it’s unfair on Sesko, as Hojlund played lots of 90 minutes against worse opponents. (Averaging 28 touches per game).

3. Okay so scouts are pointless unless the player is playing in the premier league?
Heatmaps are not where players are, its where players make actions (passing, touches, shooting).

I simple said you cannot comapre the bundesliga to the PL.

All other big summer striker signings have scored, but not our striker. It's no coincidence. We could've signed any of the others and it'd be the same story. Our team gets the worst out of every player we sign.

He's barely played in his defence

Your original post claimed Hojlund’s superior movement meant he got the ball more often. I showed you that he didn’t get the ball more often. I also showed you that Sesko didn’t stay central like you claimed previously as well, as per the heat map.

I’m not sure where else the discussion can go because we’re both claiming something that we’ve seen that can’t really be proven without going back and clipping up his runs.

I’ll make an extra effort to notice his attacking runs next week. Eventually there till be data for this, because Hojlund has some available last season.

I’ll never understand why apparently ever other club can scout a player, deem him worthy of significant outlay and generally go straight in to the team.

Yet we buy players and have a long history of them bedding in for a ridiculous period

He’s only gonna get used to playing in the league if he starts fecking playing in the league.

We’ve scouted him. Agreed he’s worth spending a mint on…so just play him.

Giving him 12 minutes here, 65 there is only going to be detrimental to him if he’s not scoring.

I think in this circumstance its to do with fitness. He had no preseason with RB because he was leaving, so hes behind all our other players for fitness. Fitness is important because we dont want him getting injured asking him to do too much too early

At least he is now starting matches

Makes me SoCross!

Bad puns aside, yes, you’re right.

Okay we should be better at putting in crosses for him, but apart from that, shouldn't our future world class striker have more to his game?

How about dribble vs defenders, shoot from distance, show elite movement and positioning. Average strikers are the one reliant on service and service only, hope he will show more in the coming games.

Aimless pump into the box. Not one of them looked up and picked a cross.
Not really true, Dorgu put quite a few crosses in which were cut out and so did Mbuemo to a lesser degree

I thought some of his hold up play was pretty decent in the first half and he actually won a few headers (I hadn't forgotten that was actually possible for a United striker). Second half though, he was just totally anonymous.

At this point i'm more worried about his confidence than his actual ability.

He did shoot from distance as 1 of our 2 shots on target.

I thought he showed glimpses of all those things to be honest. He's obviously not match for and we're not used to finding him yet. Our crossing was dreadful and we didn't play him in early a lot of the time he made runs.

He was up against Dias, a WC CB. He had a tough ask.

He will get a bit more time and probably at the very least two seasons to prove himself as the United no 9. It sucks that the team currently isn't where it should be but the likes of Cole, Yorke, Van Nistelrooy, Saha, Rooney, Tevez, Ibrahimovic, Berbatov, Cavani, van Persie even Martial could create something for themselves, could make a goal out of nothing, create some magic. I really don't want to hear this talk about service all the time, if he is so reliant on service and service alone (I'm not saying service isn't important, all strikers need service to a degree), he shouldn't be Manchester United's main striker and we should be looking to upgrade in that due time.

It seems like the club doesn't see him as that striker right now, but at the very least in the coming season we have to see the glimpses that he could be. I saw those glimpses with Hojlund in his first period, but even far too few. He was way less reliant on service under EtH in the first period, than under Amorim especially.

Yeah, to be fair, Sesko has a decent highlight reel for that as he has a thunderbastard shot on him, so I do expect the odd goal out of nothing. I think we fundamentally have to get better at crossing to him as it's such a an asset, it's madness to not use it. I know the talk about service is dull, but it is important as a team, if we are ever to progress.

I think we need to give him confidence to take those shots as well. Maybe if he feels comfortable taking shots from far he can score one and feel easier playing overall. If he's lacking space to take those shots, then Mbeumo, Amad need to try and push defenders away from the centre so he find those pockets to take shots.

That's what people thought about 22 yo Lewandowski after his first season in BVB:

Maybe give him some time.

I do worry for Sesko though, he needs to get off the mark, and soon, otherwise the "flop" label will be touted by the press and pundits and it's a long way back from that once you've been tarred with that brush.

Our service to our strikers is outragously poor. You're expecting them to create their own goals.

He does look a bit meek at the moment, but I think he's just getting used to the pace of the league. When he's comfortable with it, he'll do it, I'm sure - then we will be complaining about his speculative shots  . His tame effort against city was something he could replicate, just excuted quicker and would trouble a lot of goal keepers if he can hit it as sweet as he can.

Sure, agreed. My point is not mainly that he needs to score screamers every other week, a top striker should be a striker not fully reliant of service and able to make goals that other strikers don't make, or do it at much higher rates.

I think RVN never scored for us outside of the box, but the amount of goals he made by himself by incredible movement, quick dribbling, aggressive shooting, outsmarting goalkeepers are uncountable.

I think this post should have been towards @Lash

It's catch-22 situation for him. He's gets so little service that if he started taking speculative shots and doesn't score with them, we would think he's being arrogant and more importantly ruining chances to build up an opportunity.

Everything boils down to the lack of control we have have IMO. 3 CBS that aren't comfortable playing expansively against a man-to-man press, who then find themselves with only 2 midfielders in front of them for protection most of the game. 2 midfielders, who are asked to push up into no man's land territory playing against 3 opposition midfielders. 2 WBs asked to pushed forward but find themselves constantly going back getting goalside because our midfield doesn't have the ball. 2 tens and 1 striker finding themselves constantly on the periphery of the game because they don't see the ball so either have to hero-ball on the limited times it comes to them or often they try to play the progressive pass to the teammate in space, which is often out wide for the WBs. Just an overall disaster of formation and passive tactics/direction from the coach.

I agree with this post, still want to see him doing more in the coming months and show top class skill.

Yes I want to also but the conditions are barely there to 'do more'.

There's a reason why he's surrounded by 2-3 players in the middle because teams know to keep it tight in the central defensive areas, since Amorim also insists our 2 tens stay 'disciplined' and 'inside'. There's no space there, which is why we see our WBs like Dorgu with so much freedom in the channels. I can't really fault him for not doing a half turn with 1-2 players in his vicinity when there's only going be another 1-2 in front of him after that.

I think he's shown glimpses of good control, game intelligence with his decision making, agility and he makes orthodox good runs. The issue is that I thought the same of Hojlund when he first started here too.

Honestly worry we simply don't create enough direct chances to integrate him usefully/with any confidence.

Mbeumo drifts wide often, our other 10s don't suit going wide.

RvN had Giggs on one side and Beckham on the other. Scholes behind him and a strike partner like Ole or Cole next to him. He would not be double marked with a slow build up and a telegraphed cross with defenders crowding the penalty area.

Thought he looked really good. Had a great first touch and made the chance that ended in the red. Shame he got hooked as would have been great to keep him on for a full match.

Apart from the header to Mbeumo, he failed to get involved.

First warning sign.
