Gave the ball away 14 times

These takeaways are so poor I'm sorry. How is he supposed to keep the ball when in a lot of these situations his best chance is to knock it on to the space?
It’s not a takeaway it’s literally what happens in the video. I hope he does really well for us, I just personally didn’t really see the signs others did - certainly not “young Zlatan” shouts etc

No it isn't. In a lot of these plays he has a ball driven to him as a punt and he has to try to win it. The ball was never properly in control in the passage before it gets to him.

He actually does plenty of things right, which you excluded from the vid, and very few people had made a Zlatan comparison. The general consensus was he was a very talented albeit raw player.

Yes I agree with that, it was hyperbole to say he gave it away repeatedly with those flick ons etc. I thought it was a great assist as well
Fingers crossed he goes on to be brilliant

I dont understand why people keep suggesting his chance, wide of the goal on his left foot was a really good chance. It was on his weak foot from an angle. He should be testing the goalkeeper, he shouldnt be expected to score it

No professional footballer still has a weak foot in 2025 surely? They've only got two.

From what I remember he made the angle and the chance worse for himself with a sub-optimal first touch that took it wider, so he was stretching for it. A better first touch and he'd have been able to shoot towards the far corner instead.

Imagine he'd come through in an earlier era when CF's could really put themselves about. What a handful he'd have been with that physique.

I do think we should try and get him involved like that a bit more though. He’s class linking up with everyone but there’s no reason we can get a few more crosses and set pieces on his swede. Set pieces are going to win Arsenal the league

I think the pass was slightly behind him. And yes the first touch made it wider but I dont think it was a worse touch than most people would have in that situation. So I'd consider where the touch took him to be the standard for where a player would take that shot from and its a bit to the left, on his wrong foot. Again he should do better and get his shot on target, maybe the goalkeeper spills it but expecting him to score would be holding him to the standards of the world's best striker and I dont think any of us think he's that. Especially not right now at 22.

Putting everything into consideration, his age, transitioning to one of the biggest teams in the world in the worlds most demanding league, thrown straight in at the deep end in a brand new formation, he's performing very well. He's had 2 goals and an assist in 5 starts but his all round link up play, hold up play and aerially presence has been evident to see to anyone who has actually watched our full games.

It's quite obvious he's room for improvement and I'm confident it'll come. Most importantly he looks like he's enjoying his football and being part of the team. When you've players for Mbeumo and Cunha behind you, you're probably not ever going to hit crazy numbers in terms of goals but the work you do off the ball to help those flourish is massive. His footwork is actually so much better than I anticipated, he's very deceptive.

I agree. I think he's grown in confidence pretty quickly, which at Utd is one of the best signs, and it could be down to the team spirit. He isn't overawed, and he's intelligent as well as physically imposing.

Also a good sign of our dressing room atmosphere.

This season I'll expect him to be the third best forward behind Cunha and Mbeumo. He's got the potential to be our number 9 for 10 years though. I'll like him to become a bit more fired up, make life tougher for those center backs with his size and strength.

The likes of Neville should shut up and get off his back, let him grow in a non toxic situation.

Nottingham Forest 2:2 Man Utd
Incoming "hes shit" "sell him" "not good enough" shouts from the usual lot after 1 bad game where nobody played well

Just don't see it with this lad. Would be nice if he even looked like he gives a shit. Newcastle must be pinching themselves that the stars aligned and they ended up with Woltemade.

Absolutely woeful. Baffling how he wasn't subbed off. Clumsy, awful first touch. Literally did nothing good the whole game. So frustrating. Zirkzee is twice the player he is.

Really frustrating performance from start to finish.

He should've come off around the 60th minute.

He was awful against Nottingham Forest. His movement, his touches and physicality was worse than any Hojlund performances. He should not be our starting striker.

Amorim should have changed him!

What was disappointing today was his first touch. Killed so many attacks by not being able to control the ball coming to him

Deserves the same patience and opportunity Hojlund got.

But wow that was a bad performance. Not sure what this lad is good at...

From what we've seen so far, he's not good enough. Let's just call a spade a spade rather than do the same mental gymnastics we did for Hojlund all over again. The onus is on him to prove he is good enough for us.

Yep sadly didnt look sharp enough. Too many dissappointing first touches and when he had the chance to shoot he didnt get his efforts on target.

He was really shite today. I would have preferred Zirkzee for the last 20 minutes, he can make the ball stick better at least.

1 bad game? He's had ONE good game in his entire time here. Absolutely ridiculous he wasn't subbed off.

Really bad, couldn’t do a thing right. Time to give Zirkzee a run.

It’s a stinker. He’s going to have to work harder and be more focused in games.

Obviously a rough game but it happens. Can't wait to see all the overreacting that will happen in here.

Players come here to die because of the attitudes of fans like yours. He's played around 10 total games for us, learn to have some fecking patience jesus christ.

I don’t think so. For one he doesn’t get involved enough in the box and is even less clinical than Sesko, who isn’t great shakes either.

Sesko was meh though. Needs better touch honestly. His performance today was a fitting tribute to Ashley Barnes without the shithousery.

Absolutely shocking today - real 1/10 performance.

Hopefully this was a one off, but we need to see something from him soon or the pressure will start building and the Højlund, Antony, Sancho comparisons will start coming.

He's young, but he's not 18 and with his price tag he needs to do much better.

On another note: I also blame Amorim for not subbing him off. It's the manager's responsibility to take off players when they have really bad games. Why leave him on?

I did say in the summer that he'd only be a minor upgrade on Hojlund.. I hope he proves to be actually better.

His overall movement and link up feels very promising, today was just not his day.

Should’ve put Zirkzee on around 70’

He's flat footed far too often, as if he's not expecting the ball to come to him, then when it does, he's not ready for it, and it either gets away from him or his touch is heavy.

Not writing him off, he's had plenty of good moments in previous games, but he should have come off after an hour.

Everyone that has seen him play in Germany said this. Maybe an upgrade, but not a big one, and really pricey for a small improvement
