Benjamin Šeško | 2026/27 Performances

He needs more game time. 10 mins or so along with our second tier midfield and full backs isn’t enough. Hopefully he’ll be getting more minutes soon to the point when he starts.

He’s basically the only striker this club has and his time here has been riddled with unfortunate and ill-timed injuries. Once he gets a consistent injury free run of it, I’m fairly confident he will do well.

So much negativity. He is a top talent and saved us so many times last season. He needs time though and the Caf is not known for being patient

Thats exactly what happens. Your touch and timing go, from not doing it for a while and needing to get back in the routine. He also had the ball stuck under his feet for a few touches before playing the pass and Mbeumo probably being offside by the time he played it. Timing was wrong too. He got it all wrong and it all comes from not being fit and match fit.
You defended him last season and he came up with the goods when shown similar confidence from the team
Agree with you it takes time to find match rhythm and also maybe he tried to force it too much. Needs atleast another 5 games

I believe in him but he still struggling to keep up with the speed of the league. That hold up instead of releasing an obvious through ball to Mbeumo was just really bad.

But if he stays fit he will improve. For now Cunha should start as he brings more to the team.

I was fuming he missed pre season for exactly this reason. Looks miles off it and will take him weeks to get back up to speed when pressure could be on.

Lets cut Sesko some slack. Obviously rusty .. as expected with zero pre season.
If he can avoid significant injuries, confident he will make a big impact this season.

He finished the season really well before he got injured. He's just back from injury, missed pre season, and has played about 30 mins of competitive football.

I'm not worried. And no other sensible person should be either.

I think if people took more of a long term view with Sesko they might be more content for now. He is a player, due to his attributes, I think won’t show his best until he has gained the experience at the top level of when best to apply them.

He has good back to goal play, being strong enough to hold the ball and a good fist touch when match sharp to play others in. This will get better I feel and when he syncs up to the fluidity the rest of the forwards are starting to build.

Once he learns how to bully centre backs with his strength and make use of his dynamics mixed with physicality, I’m confident he can get goals like last season and help the team.

At the core of it, I can’t really shake the feeling that Carrick doesn’t really fancy him. He needs to score in like 5 in a row to start. I think he prefers Mbeumo, and generally, all that group (Carrick, Neville, Scholes etc) seem to think Mbeumo is amazing anyway, and conversely - they don’t really rate Sesko.

This is why it is an extra shame when Sesko gets a run out and doesn’t impress. I think he needs to do a bit more than some others to build trust with Carrick.

Just a feeling I get, of course.

I get that feeling too, which doesn’t make sense to me because he was on fire at the end of last season. He’s a young striker so he will only get better with minutes.

I do think Scholes has changed his mind on Sesko + Neville said he would get 20 goals this year.

I’m not too worried about the situation right now though, he’ll be starting soon enough.

I still have the feeling myself that he just doesn't have it to be a surefire 1st choice striker for a big team.

I hope I'm wrong, but he has so many moments of rawness in his general play.

But I can't deny how important his goals were during a stretch of games last season.

Hopefully I am way off.

I'm sure he'll start the CL match, it's on a Thurs sandwiched between Everton and Shitty, it'll be a good game to get some rotation for players who haven't started.

I forgive that if it was a fitness issue, but that was poor technically. Let's not pretend that no pre-season means someone forgets how to kick a ball.
Tielemans and Bruno are the two best passers we have and they looked like they'd never played football before against Hull.

Yeah he messed up for that chance with overhit pass, but why so much discussion on that? Are players not allowed to mess up passes? Also no, it doesn't say anything about his technical level. Mistakes happen, that's part and parcel of the game.

Yep it was obvious it was going to be a rough start to the season for many players who looked miles off it in the final game vs Milan and they continued that into the first PL game. And Sesko is even further behind in sharpness than those players who were awful in that final pre season game.

Sesko is clearly being eased back into match fitness.
No sense in rushing him.
I doubt he’ll start the next couple of PL games.
Once he gets to regularly start matches, hopefully he can stay fit and we can see how he’s progressing.and adapting to the EPL

I think the jury is out on him, but most are willing to give him the benefit of doubt and time to establish himself, after an intermittent, but promising first season.
If ultimately he fails to make the grade, so be it.
No need for histrionics. He’s young and has time on his side, whether with Utd or elsewhere..

He is probably our most important player this season (aside from Bruno) and one who we desperately need to fire.

Have high hopes from him but he does need time to get back to fitness + match sharpness.

Some people have forgotten that he hadn't played a game for over three months before getting his first few minutes against Hull.

He played on 3 May before missing the last three games of the previous season, and he has played for 23 minutes against Hull and 10 minutes today. That's essentially half an hour of football in almost four months (!). Let's give him a month to get into the groove.

Nah, he's shit and that's it.

Meanwhile other players are still getting a free pass after years or being shite.

He's just coming back from an injury and has had no pre-season. Everyone chill out.
People aren’t basing their opinions off today but his performances as a whole. Yes he scored some important goals last season but there are just so many deficiencies in his game.

He’s not particularly quick over short distances, he’s clumsy, he needs 14 touches before pulling the trigger, his heading for someone so tall is awful, he’s too passive and gets bullied by defenders despite his frame, his passing is crap. The list goes on. He’s just technically not a very good footballer.

Imagine you could drop a load of aggression into him. He'd be a nightmare to play against.

Like who?

The usual suspects Rashford, Dalot, Maguire..

While they weren't exactly terrible yesterday, they put in very basic performances, the absolute minimum you'd expect. So years of them being shite gets washed out, while Sesko gets daggers for 1 stray pass in a 10 minute cameo after 3 months out with inury.

I was fuming he didn't get longer yesterday. We were winning comfortably and our only striker needs to get match fit and we gave him 10 minutes?

Still think he's our attacker with the highest ceiling. Unfortunately for him, he's not been able to have preseason with the team for two seasons now so the slow start will probably last till the international break for him.

I like how he can develop slowly without the pressure of instant results because we have other options. This is what guaranteed Hojlund to fail here, we needed him to hit the ground running and scoring goals from day one.

I'm all in on my Sesko stocks, I just think it will take some time. His raw attributes are rare to find in one striker. Size, long range shooting, heading, pace, leap. He's just struggling to put it all together but it will come.

Are you telling me Maguire and Dalot don't get pelters on Redcafe?

They have, as they should.

I'm just going off yesterday & the reaction to a 10 min cameo vs those who continue to serve up the same shite after 10 years but get excused after 1 decent game vs relegation fodder.

I have a feeling that Sesko is being eased back in after an injury that was more serious than we initially believed.

As for opportunities to be fuming, Sesko coming on with 10 minutes left isn’t it. The game was gone and we weren’t looking to add another three goals, and the rain was coming down in sheets. Not ideal circumstances to knit scoring chances together.

There’s plenty of football coming up for Benjamin to return to fitness and form.

I swear this place is on a par with twitter sometimes.

I wanna see him and Lacey upfront as an attacking pair against lesser teams in the cup and Europe - change it up and give Bruno and Cunha etc a rest. I think Sesko and Lacey could produce a real little and large partnership

Good goal. Should be starting as much as possible. He's the only one out of the 3 forwards that we signed last summer that I can see in title winning team, so it's worth investing the game time in him.
