Benjamin Šeško | 2026/27 Performances

He had no preseason so this is his preseason. He will need a couple more matches for sure before we start to see his true level then we can determine if he's not where he needs to be.

Really poor pass btw for that chance to put Mbeumo in. But again... No preseason, we should be expecting him to be very rusty and he looked it.

I forgive that if it was a fitness issue, but that was poor technically. Let's not pretend that no pre-season means someone forgets how to kick a ball.

I always love seeing Sesko come on and they dont bother with the 90 crosses they made beforehand. Not worried he's just rusty and it's still only the start of the season.

Thats exactly what happens. Your touch and timing go, from not doing it for a while and needing to get back in the routine. He also had the ball stuck under his feet for a few touches before playing the pass and Mbeumo probably being offside by the time he played it. Timing was wrong too. He got it all wrong and it all comes from not being fit and match fit.

I don't see him as a first choice starter at the moment.

Rash/Cunha/Bruno and Mbeumo/Amad, I like the adaptability of that as a group, Sesko as an impact sub and rotational player might be the best use of him for the moment.

Don’t be daft. Rusty players make shite passes. The two are connected.
I just think he’s a poor footballer. I hope I’m proven wrong in time but nothing I’ve seen from him during his time here so far has impressed me, I’ll be honest. I think people’s desperation for him to work out is clouding their judgement.

Based on his United career so far, he doesn't appear comfortable with much outside the box and looks rather awkward there.

This is a you problem. We dont get 3rd last season without him constantly bailing us out

Regarding that pass, he did do something similar last season where he was aiming for Amad I think. Got caught between two minds of shooting for far post and a cross pass.

Personally don't really care about it. He's shown he's decent with the ball at his feet and has sensible decision making if a bit inconsistent. I just want him to score more goals and be more impactful. Today wasn't it as we stopped attacking and wanted to slow the game down. Again fine by me, just need to get more minutes in his legs to get up to speed.

Rusty. I wonder if his being unavailable for preseason worked nicely for Carrick as he didn’t need to start him from the start of the season.

Agreed. Sesko and Dorgu just don't have it.

Yeah, but I thought he was getting more comfortable with the ball at his feet towards the end of last season. I’ve made my peace with him being awkward and inconsistent with it though.

It was quite clear from last season his biggest weakness is his link up play. He does hold the ball up well unlike many other strikers today but his general play needs improvement. He isn’t going to develop though if he’s getting 10mins here and there. He proved he can score goals last season, all types of goals too. Second half Ipswich fell apart but first half showed we lacked a focal point and he offers it. Hopefully the long term plan is for him to start because this false 9 stuff won’t always cut it.
Reaction to that pass is over the top though. A lot of players looked rusty in that first half and most have had a pre season. Would start him next game.

Some people have forgotten that he hadn't played a game for over three months before getting his first few minutes against Hull.

He played on 3 May before missing the last three games of the previous season, and he has played for 23 minutes against Hull and 10 minutes today. That's essentially half an hour of football in almost four months (!). Let's give him a month to get into the groove.

Yeah but I mean, Bruno has made shit passes so are you really going to be surprised that a 6'5 striker also makes some shit ones? Its obviously going to happen more often while hes just coming back to playing football after being out injured for like 5 months

He's clumsy at times, but tactically he makes sense in the way a target man who isn't slow over long distances (if he was fast over short distances he'd be a superstar) can be useful against a team parking the bus with his height and against a team pressing high as our best hold up option.

Cunha is the better option if we're really trying to play football against a team not committed to parking the bus, and Mbeumo is a more reliable goalscoring option against a high line, but Sesko can pass him there with his long strides and again, an actual aerial/hold up option.

Really, other than Bruno, Lisandro, Lammens and somehow Dalot (we win with him out there a lot more than not), Carrick has a lot of 7/10 options and he needs to get the matchups and subs right. No idea if he's up to it. But we don't have a "set it and forget it" sort of squad.

Wait, he's got 10 mins today. Can't think of much he did particularly poorly, why are we writing him off?

That pass was the worst display of technique I have seen from a Premier League player

I dont want to be too harsh here and I know he didnt have full pre season but just dont think he has it. Technically not good enough. Looks awkward receiving ball with his back to play.

That pass (When we were 5-1 up) was according to some the greatest worse hall of fame passes of all time in the history of football.

He's looked brutal so far. His touch and passing in the opening 2 games look really, really bad. Needs to get his act together honestly, because we need him scoring goals

He hasn't played 2 games though, has he? Maybe like 40 minutes, all told?

Such an over reaction

The ball got stuck under his feet and by the time he made it mbeumo had to stop his run, not a disaster, right idea at least. He had some nice touches but came on when we were playing keep ball and the game was over. Not sure what he could have done with what he had really.

He will gel well with our other forwards and midfield once he's up to speed again. I feel confident about that.

My biggest concern will be the lack of support from Rashford, if he is to be our main LW this season.

So you missed all poor technique occasions displayed by Mbeumo, Cunha, Dorgu in last two games?

At first I was pissed off he wasn’t starting, but clearly he has zero rhythm because of the pre season situation.

Hopefully it comes quickly as we will need a firing striker to have a chance of progressing in the CL.

This thread has turned silly. Some of the posts suggest time away from the internet is required and some reflection on them before having another go. He’s been out for months with no preseason, it’s basically a new midfield to him too. At the top level football is fine margins and it takes pretty much any player time to get back up to speed after injury. Wait a few games at least before such hyperbolic declarations are thrown out.

Like I said in the rest of my post, I personally don't care or am surprised about it because he's shown similar wildly off passing previously. Fit or not, doesn't matter to me, I was just remarking that it's happened before. For me today's sub and the last one against Hull was nothing to critique about other than getting fitness.

Not going to judge him too harshly since he was out a long time but he has played some very poor balls during his time here. Not sure where the issue lies since some of the goals he scored for us show that he has very good technique. Maybe overthinking things at times

I just think some fans have mis-profiled him. They seen a few highlights off pulling the ball out of the air and an outside of the foot finish and thought he was a zlatanesque, big highly technical footballer. He not, hes very inconsistent with his touch and passing, he can get goals though and he can be a handful, very handy in the Premier league

He will be fine after he gets a goal, the ol' cliche of lacking in confidence.
