I knew Madrid players were not paid huge salaries, cause they put it into the transfer fees, but I didn´t know it was this bad. :nervous:

To make his life more interesting he's due in Court in Madrid on the morning of the clasico. He got stopped by the police for making an illegal manoeuvre (presumably a U turn or something) and they again rejected his driving licence.

Last time he got stopped he put out a press release assuring everyone his licence, car documents and insurance were all present and correct. Apparently the Spanish police don't agree. He's had multiple fines and bans over his driving the past couple of years. Ooops.

Weren't him and Ribery also accused of using an underage hooker at one time or another? In an alternate life he'd probably be a bootlegger.

Can't get over this  So odd!

Hey, didn't Benzema and Valbuena have priors? Something about Benzema being a part of a crew in the French NT that bullied him?

The Spanish press say Benzema's story runs something like this. "Somebody" got the sex tape and contacted one of Benzema's entourage in a bid to get them to act as some kind of go-between to Valbuena. Benzema then met Valbuena and either, gave him some kind of advice (Benzema having been through a scandal of his own) or he added to the pressure on Valbuena not to go to the police over it. That appears to be what the questions today were about - according to the gossip columns.

Benzema's lawyer says that Benzema contacted the police immediately the story broke to say he was willing to be interviewed and that today's hearing was just the logical and natural conclusion to that, because Benzema was happy to answer the questions.

That's all well and good but it kind of ignores the taken into custody bit. Presenting for questioning is not the same thing.

Breaking: Karim Benzema to spend the night in police custody, he's failed to convince investigators that he's not involved, per "France TV".

Apparently he told Valbuena to pay because he had the same problem and paid, which is true.

Come on, we've only had Martial for just 2 months.
They need a striker not a winger. We have a certificate from Wenger saying that Martial is a winger.

Here's something someone dug up. The source is some guy who dug through a bunch of stories and summarized it this way.
The attempted blackmail of Mathieu Valbuena is believed to have been orchestrated by a certain individual named “Axel”, a 39 year old who regularly had dealings with football agents close to Marseille. This Axel is alleged to have come into possession of an old mobile phone of Mathieu Valbuena’s where he discovered an intimate video of the player with a young lady.

With two alleged accomplices, he then tried to get the French international to pay 150,000 Euros for the tape, or else Axel would release the footage on the internet.

So where does Karim Benzema fit in all of this? The Real Madrid man was first made aware of the video when an individual close to Benzema was contacted by one of the alleged blackmailers. Apparently, they were looking to involve Karim Benzema somehow in their blackmail scheme.

Karim Benzema and Mathieu Valbuena had a face-to-face conversation about the incident on the 5th October whilst doing their duty for the French national team, according to Le Parisien.

One source contacted about their conversation suggests that Benzema put pressure on Valbuena to pay up, a second source says that Benzema advised Valbuena in a friendly manner to pay the blackmailers so that the Lyon player could be done with the entire situation.

Axel, eh? We don't know anyone called Axel, do we?

Probably Axl. He needs the money these days.

What community?
Most of football hates the rest of football.
Of course, it is a tarnished brand, but it would be nice for it to not go into absolute degeneracy (although it is seems to be there already).

This sounds like the sort of thing a desperate agent would release to cover up something a bit deeper – not saying he needs the money or anything, maybe it's simply a joke taken too far perhaps.

If he was really approached by blackmailers I doubt there would be a face-to-face meeting. As footballers can't seem to think for themselves these days he'd have contacted his agent who would more than likely have recommended he call the Gendarmes.

Since the Ribery underage hooker thing was dropped French football has stunk … presumably why they got the next big football gig btw!

He is so stupid to even get near something like this.
Well to be honest, it seems that the police don't know if he really is involved in the blackmailing, they only know that he advised Valbuena to pay. Apparently his name has been used several times in the last years and he was innocent everytime.

Surely got to be the biggest name in football to go down, if that happens?

It sounds like he admits that he told Valbuena to pay rather than go to the police. He describes it as advice. Valbuena, according to the rumours, apparently heard it as threatening.

Presumably it's some childish stunt or bullying gone horribly wrong, I can't believe it's about money. Maybe Benzema himself is being threatened again. Who knows. Whatever it is, the Judge is deciding on what happens next.

5 year in jail and 75 k fine is maximum punishment. I think he ll be fined and let go unless they have too much evidence against him.
