I'm personally offended by everyone who leaves out Random Access Memories by Daft Punk. Best album of the decade.

Wasn't a huge fan of it myself - aside from Get Lucky and Instant Crush and a couple of others - but the way it drove up vinyl sales again is something that can't be overlooked for its contribution to the overall landscape of the industry during the decade. Since 2013 streaming figures and vinyl sales have gone up while CD sales have fallen quite considerably and I think Random Access Memories played a part in that. It was an album designed to be owned on vinyl, I think. I don't think it's perfect by any means - a lot of it feels like it's made up impressively produced studio projects rather than songs with structure and form and momentum and such (I'm looking at you, Giorgio by Moroder and Touch) - but that shouldn't take anything away from the impact it had on the ways people consumed music after its release.

Thought it was rather overrated at the time and haven't really listened to it since.

So with the possible exception of Blackstar by Bowie you are suggesting that there were no good albums in the 2010's

Touch and Giorgio are what makes the record so great. I don’t know a single other band who would dare to try anything like this. I love it when artists do something new and unconventional. For me those two songs, next to Instant Crush, are the highlights of the whole album.
One of my all time favorites. Mostly because you can hear their influences so well. Nothing like it.

Wonder how people will end up comparing the 10's with the 00's in terms of music?

One of the impacts of internet culture (I think) is that recent decades have far less of a narrative than the 60's, 70s, 80s, or 90s.

Contact is the best ending to an album I've ever heard.

So how would you compare RAM to other Daft Punk albums? Because for me Discovery is by some distance their best.

I especially liked the bolded ones. Alvvays are so underrated, they routinely make perfect punky, power pop. They're great.

I do very much like Pup's Morbid Stuff for what it is but it is a bit to recent for me to consider. Great album though.

Yeah I like them a lot. They have a nice balance of fun, upbeat and dream-pop that I really enjoy,.

Yeah that's fair. Just saw it while scrolling through my Spotify albums and had to stick it in there :D

As great albums, but just not on that level. To me they were basically stepping stones in their way to RAM, which feels like the ending of a cycle. I think what they’ll do next will sound very different and new.

Tbf Pitchfork are rather more U.S. pop orientated than they used to be. Their list ain't exactly the be all and end all.

I do enjoy nerdy list-compiling season though.

Modern Vampires of the City is the only album on any of these lists that I've listened to in full.

Heard bits and pieces of three or four others, mostly Kendrick Lamar, and not much else.

Damn, not a single album I know (other than by name) on this list...I'm old.
Any list that has this Fiona Apple album in the top 5 deserves applause!
I have semi-listened to quite a lot of that top 50, so will check out more. This time Pitchfork seems to be aligned with what i like.

If Tame Impala could get a move on and release the new album before the end of the year, it would likely be be 4/4 for the decade for me

Frank Ocean's Blonde is an absolutely brilliant album. definitely recommend it, and definitely worthy for a top 5 spot, if not 1.

Sufjan Steven's Carrie and Lowell is as well. it's depressing as hell though, but amazing.

Hah, all these lists have a lot of "artistic and underground"-esque pop / electro / rock band albums but all the rap stuff is just the commercially successful ones. Utter bollocks.
