If completed, the deal would install a trio of the world's wealthiest individuals as co-owners of the Reds, one of the most successful teams in the history of English football.

Mr Bezos alone has a fortune estimated by Forbes at over £207bn ($280bn), while Mr Saverin is said to be worth over £23.7bn ($32bn).

Their investment in Liverpool will reportedly value the club at £4.4bn ($6bn), making it one of the sport's richest-ever deals.

Massive cnut, will fit right in. Not sure how the good people of Liverpool will like having a billionaire oligarch technocunt in charge but I'm sure they'll keep quiet if he spaffs the cash.
 
Not much I'd imagine. It's a for profit minority investment.

Maybe in 5-10 years it might turn into a full buyout if FSG wants to move on (if Henry pops it), but a lot can change in that time.
 
Another cultural institution ruined. I don't fear them having a bottomless pit of money or any such thing. I just think this foreign ownership is destroying the English game. There are objectionable parties and then there are enormously objectionable parties, and this is clearly the latter.

What do their supporters think?

Liverpool vs City in the battle of unlimited wealth?

As United fans we’re all aware of the rivalry between us and Liverpool but there’s always been a grudging acknowledgment that both clubs became the two biggest clubs in England through tradition and excellence. Seeing Amazon eventually own Liverpool FC would be pretty unpalatable, not just for the obvious reason of having a money cheat code.

The PL stopped us from striking a shirt sponsorship deal with Paramount+ because it 'violated rules designed to protect the broadcast partners'. Surprisingly we did not find a loophole around that.

The footballing world will be unrecognisable in the next 15 years.
 
Nothing to see here. They are in it for the profit to their pockets like the Glazers. Not for the sportswashing potential like the Arabs.

It's all just a bit grimey and grim isn't it. Just investment portfolios everywhere.
 
The difference between this and when sky tried to buy us is likely in the detail of the Investor being Bezos and not Amazon as in if Murdoch tried to buy us and not use Sky it might have gone through that's conjecture on my part though
 
At some point we (the fans, the dupes who keep funding this late-stage capitalism feckfest the beautiful game has been turned into*) need to nope out. We gotta say that this is not what the game is about, get involved at the grass root level (if you aren't already) and work for an alternate structure where clubs are run as NGO non-profits, where the filthy rich with no community connection can't simply buy their way to power and control, let alone ownership and leverage.

*I write this as I just the other day shelled out for ridiculously overpriced pre-season match tickets, two new home shirts and a fecking baseball cap with the club logo. All because "I want to share the joys of football with my son". Safe to say I am the idiot who enables the Glazers and their ilk.

It’s funny. The PL is the best on the planet but in terms of the direction football is headed in, it’s the leading candidate for ruining club football. At least Bayern, Madrid and Barcelona aren’t billionaire owned. The PL has allowed and snow balled an irreversible and terrible trend. Yes, it creates more competitors but ruins the sanctity of the league in the long run.

Amazon vs Facebook vs X league will be fun 20 years from now.

Feels like the PL is definitely in too deep and nobody has cared yet. Btw how have other leagues not given in? Or is it just a few major clubs who didn’t need it.

Proper 'wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy' type stuff. Really feels like you'll need to watch lower leagues to see anything like football as it was/should be.

The whole game is being eaten up and shat out.

Yes, and it’s clear these parasites see an opportunity from a league inviting them in instead of doing their damnedest to keep them out. The enrichment is glorious (for those eagerly profiteering); the impact on the clubs and league itself will be devastating. Worst still, these types don’t leave until they’ve extracted everything they want and there few who have the funds to buy them out.
 
I wonder if some Liverpool fans will do a FC United and form a new club if this goes through.
