Amazon no longer has any PL coverage. Gave up the two rounds they had I think the season before last.
 
Forget the rivalry and all that goes with it for a second, but these type of deals along with our own owners and the PetroStates are ruining football.
What I’d give to go back to how things were in the 80/90s. Brilliant players could be found at smaller clubs. Unbelievable clubs in Italy, Spain, Germany, England, as well as Rangers and Celtic being strong, Ajax, Porto, etc.

Now with the farce that is FIFA, clubs being used as money laundering for horrible owners, or bigger clubs being drained of their wealth and value by their owners, fantastic traditional clubs going out of existence, players totally out of touch with reality…… when you see clubs like Liverpool, ourselves, Milan etc selling their souls it really is sad.
We are looked at as customers not supporters, and we are being bleed dry and then tossed to one side.

Apologies about the rant, but I’m not long after leaving the Children’s Hospital in Dublin and the wealth and greed in football sickens me when ya see how people in the real world are struggling. Again, sorry for ranting.

The pl is just taking its lead from Britain more generally, a country that seems all too happy to sell of its assets to just about anyone

As I understand it, this is Bezos on his own and Amazon have no involvement, bit like the Washington Post
 
My knowledge is too little to understand the consequences of this. Just wanna know if this means more financial power for them on the transfer and wages front?

Difficult to say. It depends on Bezos‘ intentions. If he just wants to make profit, it could actually be similar to what the Glazers do to United. But if it is more like a personal hobby, he could flood them with cash.

It's a consortium that includes Bezos, he's not even the head guy in it, he's not buying 1/3 of Liverpool

They’ve all seen the World Cup, the glamour of being in the crowd with tv cameras on them seen by billions around the world, not to mention took the filthy amounts of cash it generates, and they are now elbowing their way into the trough. NFL is a closed shop with a smaller global audience, football opens up many more frontiers for them.

But why does a guy who is worth $200+ billion do this? He's much, much richer than the glazers. Even if he makes money, It will be peanuts to him and he probably could get more just investing in a general fund

There must be some element of pride, status symbol, or passion project involved. If his ego gets tied up in it, he could easily get sucked into investing a lot.
 
I hate everything about this.

From oligarchs in general to Liverpool now being associated with this guy.

Can just imagine the pictures when we win a game at Anfield and the camera pans to a smiling Bezos in the stands. Sigh.

That is absolutely all he wants. I don't think Jeff is setting his alarm in the middle of the night to check in on Liverpool results. The Premier League has been printing money for years.

No, not at all, they will still have to adhere to the same financial rules as they currently are, just look at Newcastle.

They might get more investment for the stadium and facilities but not on the transfer or wages front, but I don't really see that happening.

I agree, it's probably irreversible in the PL.

Not an expert, but I think most associations and their clubs around Europe are generally privately owned. At least to an extent. In Germany I believe the norm is that members must retain the majority vote. But that means you still expose 49% of the club to private ownership.

Norway is the only association I know where full or part private ownership is impossible. All organised clubs participating in the league system must be organised as non-profit membership associations. It's not exactly the pinnacle of club football. But there is at least a certain grassroots purity to it.

We don't know. As others have said, ego and prestige might play a big part. He might like the idea of being handed some nice and shiny cups, while the audience is cheering.
 
I've just thought all these clubs being bought up were the opposition to the Super League. Maybe in a couple/few years it will finally go through?

If it was an ego thing, surely he'd just buy an American sports franchise independently.
 
Nothing to see here. Bezos is just one of a number of investors, the main guy is Amit Bhatia who spent the last 18 years as co-owner of QPR. Obviously consortium led by ex QPR owner to buy stake in Liverpool does not make as good a headline.
 
Weird move even if he’s just a peripheral figure. It doesn’t sound like it’s a good thing for Liverpool though on the face of it, more like vultures coming in to feast.
 
Always good to see more wealthy parasites buying stakes in clubs to squeeze out a few more quid to add to their vast wealth

I imagine a lot better off than the mess we're in now. Fans were over the moon about it falling through at the time as well. If only they knew...
 
Poor Liverpool, wouldn't want the guy anywhere near United.

The PL sold its soul a long time ago sadly, and it's only going to get worse.

I don't know what could Liverpool football club possibly offer a guy who is worth hundreds of billions?

By comparison Jeff Bezos alone is worth $280bn, the Glazers worth about $12bn and SJR around $20bn.

Those guys always want more. It's human nature in part, but it's probably even more of an ego thing with them. Plus some of them are all about what they think is legacy building by throwing money around.

I read an article about 30 years ago when the rise of the new super wealthy was still a bit of a novel thing and it talked about how places like yacht builders were exploding because people with the money to buy a boat are using it to compare themselves to the others in that group. Bill Gates' yacht is how long or has how many kitchens?? I need MORE.
