Anyone else over the moon with our transfers out this summer?
Only six players remain from the squad Fergie left. That squad, I think we all agree, was an absolute mess. Filled with average, at best, players.
LVG and Woody have done a tremendous job of shifting the deadwood, and this summer has seen them finish the job, more or less:
We have manged to get decent fees for the players also, considering the over-inflated wages they were on. Our wage bill has fell by probably 10% as well.
RVP - £4m
Nani - £6m?
Rafael - £2.5m
Hernandez - £8-12m?
Evans - £6m+2m add-ons
Falcao - Not signed, £300k p/w/ off the wage bill.
We also lost the two most talented players in the squad, but they didn't want to be here and we got good fees.
Well done to LVG for being ruthless, and to Woody for getting the deals sealed.
This was an important part in the process of rebuilding this squad. It will take at least another bumper spending spree next summer to really push on though.
