Thoughts?

In such a remarkably short space of time Jude has become an iconic figure at Blues, showing what can be achieved through talent, hard work and dedication.

His caring, humble and engaging off-the-field demeanour has also made him such an impressive role model.

The 22 shirt has become synonymous with Jude, his rise to the first team aged just 16 years and 38 days and these qualities.

And as such the Club have decided it would be fitting to retire this number, to remember one of our own and to inspire others.

What? That's very dramatic. He hasn't achieved anything for them.

Wtf. Surely this is embarrassing. Or maybe they do realize that he is all hype and would return to play for them.

 Seriously? 45 games?

I'd understand if, say, they retired Nikola Zigic's number, whatever that was - he scored the equaliser in the 2011 League Cup final and played over a 100 games for Birmingham City. But this is just embarassing.

I thought it was a joke when Malaga did something similar for Isco? Not sure if it was a retired number

We should do the same for Schweinsteiger and Victor Valdes.
It's a disgrace that we never properly honoured Dong Fangzhuo, the man who received a guard of honour from Chelsea in 2007.

We should also retire the number 7 shirt for the contribution sanchez has made.

Going to be funny when it leaks that this was part of the deal of him ensuring Birmingham got a transfer fee.

Honestly, the mawkishness in football these days is overwhelming. Minute's silences before most games for any number of unconvincing reasons, retiring the shirts of players who've achieved absolutely nothing. It's embarrassing.

This might be the high water mark of that embarrassment.

Maybe for a sixth tier club I'd understand, if they sold him on. But for Birmingham City that's embarrassing. A small club mentality.

We should have retired Macheda’s number. Now what was it again?

Cringe... Like when Miami Heat in 2003 retired number 23, in honour of Jordan’s retirement, despite him never playing for them.... the hell is this?
