Does anyone who doesn't do absolutely everything perfect automatically qualify as poor for you? He's tried to make stuff happen, not everything has come off. Try to keep the knee-jerks to a minimum, would you please?

Everybody needs to be assessed in a new light under Mourinho. For all the shit we give Fellaini, he was solid as feck for us today. Worked his bollocks off too. Same can be said of Herrera. Would like to see them try more forward/through passes but I guess it will take time to get rid of the "LVG philosphy" in them.

Ibrahimovic. What else is there to say? He is only just getting started and basically tore bournemouth a new arsehole in the second half. Brilliant backheel to Rooney who almost scored. Then of course he smashes home from 38 yards out for his debut goal. Unbelievable.

Overlooked in all this though was Valencia. Spectacular on the right flank. Basically ran that whole side himself. Eat your heart out dani alves. The MoM should be shared between him and Bailly because they were fantastic from start to finish. Shut down bournemouth and marshalled any danger easily.

Terrific away performance and right at the start of the season too. Cant remember the last time we had such a good all rounded away result.

We got the start we all wanted, and that's without our best midfielder Pogba in action. Can't wait to see him, Micki, Martial and Zlatan all together on the pitch. Zlatan yet again showed what a player he is, with scoring yet another goal in his first debute in the league - like he's done in all the other clubs he's been in. Great performance by Bailly(happy now
@Sparky Rhiwabon?;-P) too. Valencia looks like he's found his oldself, which is great to see. Herrera a bit dissapointing, while Fellaini did his job, but nothing more. Pogba will strengthen our midfield/team alot and bring another dimension to us.

That was better than most of our matches in the past three years bar the occasional performance against one of the big boys.

And the thing is this is just the first match of the season. We are going to be better when everyone is in the team and up to speed

Brilliant start to the season. Herrera much better in the second half (felt he was a bit too safe and static in the first), Fellaini did a solid job defensively and Ibra scored a cracker!

Martial should have two assists, right?

Fellaini the destroyer with Pogba. I mean we could have the biggest team in the league in terms of height too. First time in years i am actually smiling at end of a good performance and victory. :D

Are you some fecking linguist? It was implied that Mourinho will even make Fellaini come good.
A little bit, it's part of my job. ;)

As a winger you can't attack on your own. The space you have is dependent on how well the team moves the ball. The space was mostly found by Valencia, probably also because Mata was very mobile. Mourinho also generally likes a full back to stay a bit more back when the other is high up because he doesn't want to get caught in an unfavorable counter-attack.
In the second half, we benefitted from Martial being more positive, running at their defence and being more mobile. Which is what I wanted to see more of from the left hand side. Shaw not overlapping as much is understandable considering last season, but i'm pleased Martial got much more involved in the game in the second half.

Good second half. Ibra and Rooney get one each, good start to the season. Really like this Bournemouth team, positive, energetic football; hopefully they'll manage to stay up.

Good start, first day games always a bit unpredictable, but second half United got a grip of the game and played well, few flurries at the end from the hosts but all in all, a good day. Bailly was superb, but Blind deserves a mention also.

Understandably more space opened up for Martial in the 2nd half because Bournemouth had to move the ball quicker to try and score and thus made more mistakes. Shaw was still very conservative in his approach up forward but I don't think we needed him to do more anyways. Better to be safer at the back and I think he was instructed to play that way.

Good start to the second half. Last 25 mins were poor, I didn't expect us to take the foot off the gas, we should have gone for it and we had plenty of opportunities to do so but chose the safe option.

Great result, shame martial fell asleep and ruined a deserved clean sheet.

Close one for MOTM for me between Bailly blind and fellaini, but I think fellaini wins it for me.
Surprised you wouldn't have Valencia in your top 3?

Unreal how much more confidence we had than last season.

Add Smalling and Pogba into this team and I can see good things happening

Good start, that's the sort of game we've been losing over the past three years. Defences were on top first half but once Mata scored and they had to come out, we were able to counter well in classic Mourinho style and get another couple.

Bailly and Blind were very solid at the back, Fellaini put in a very good shift in midfield breaking up play and Zlatan took his goal brilliantly and showed what a classy player he can be when we gave him some service second half.

I think he did very well too but didn't have much to do defensively and could have done a little better going forward, but he had a solid game. Nobody really did badly apart from Rooney tbh

Just come home, there seems to be difference of opinion about performances, but I get the impression that you all think Rooney has been terrible.
Please let me sum it up with a chant I created based upon his performance:

If you slap slap slap slap Roony's bellyyyyyy
It will wobble wobble wobble just like jellyyyyyy

Very happy with the performance today. The defence looked immense, especially Blind and Bailly. So well organised. Fellaini had a very good performance. Herrera did pretty well too. Good to see Mata scoring. Rooney poor but will always offer goals. Zlatan . Martial quite poor but still ended up with 2 assists. Valencia continuing to look fantastic as our attacking full back. Shaw pretty quiet today. David with a couple of good saves at the end. I think we deserved a clean sheet tbh but it was a hell of a goal. Blind MOTM for me with Bailly a close 2nd. Smalling won't find it easy to get back into that defence. Think Blind and Bailly will be first choice for next few weeks.

This was a supremely assured performance on the whole for our 1st game of the campaign.

For me it's not just our new players like Zlatan and Bailly, who had standout performances, but also the pairing of Fellaini and Herrera who ran our midfield like seasoned veterans. To see the both of them control the modfield battle in tandem was inspiring for me and that is a positive and tangible change visible with Mourinho in charge.

Even in the first half when everything was a wee bit tepid, i was super impressed with Herrera and the new & reformed Fellaini. Seems like Mourinho has figured out roles that suit the both of them in a quasi-2 man midfield.

Notwithstanding the new world class additions to the team, it feels really great to see that the players who were constantly censured the last 2-3 seasons have been pushed to up their game and make effective contributions to the team. Hopefully Depay, Schneiderlin, Rojo and Darmian will put in similar displays. Well done Sir Jose Mourinho!

Bailly very impressive & not surprisingly MOM. Good overall team performance, particularly in the 2nd half with all players contributing. In first half had trouble breaking them down, with both sides defending well, at least until the first goal. What concerns me, & was shown in the first half, is the lack of pace up front, & in consequence our main action was to send a succession of long ball to no avail. The only time this worked was when went up to Mata, who wasn't afraid to chase the defenders which made the error, unlike the two upfront who wouldn't have done this. In the 2nd half Bournemouth made more mistakes & opened up more, but other sides well not be so obliging.

One player who I thought did well was Valencia. I remember when he played on the right wing, & when he did cross he caused problems. Ibrahimovic clash of heads & Rooneys goal, & if Mourinhio is going to continue with the front two they will need to be fed quality crosses not long balls, & Valencia is the only starting player likely to do this. I thought Martial was quite ordinary today. Bournemouth were also disappointing in their lack of attack, & will struggle if they don't improve.

Overall, a good start & team display. Hopefully, we can keep it up.
