Good luck to the boy - hope he does well there.
Got bags of grit and looks a tough little bugger.
Always enjoyed watching him go through the back of someone with a badly timed tackle!

Good game for his debut - 6-0 win over Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup. Hope he doesn't end up playing in a team that gets battered every week the way they have in their first two games.

Starts for Norwich against Leicester today - according to the match updates, made the mistake for Vardy’s goal.

Its good that he's starting but I can't think of a worse fit for him - he's not great defensively and that Norwich team will leak goals all season long just as they did last time they were in the league. A team where he'd play as a wingback, or a defensively solid team like Newcastle, would be far better for him.
But would he catch Newcastle?

Deflection off Williams leads to a goal, 2-1 Leicester :(

Totally at fault for the first goal, most of his passes were backwards, didn’t offer himself very often going forwards.

He made a couple of decent interceptions, the second Leicester goal came off him but he was committed and there was little he could do about it.

Norwich looked much more assured and productive going down the right side where Max Aarons was playing.

Official Spaghetti match rating for Williams: 5/10

He was poor, just watched the game now. What is obvious is that we should our players quite alot. They need the loan system as a barometer to see how their level. He has a long way to go to be a squard player here.

Was apparently great today for Norwich.

Even from just watching the highlights, he made 3 really big defensive contributions - including a brilliant tackle to stop an open goal.

Apparently, everyone said he was shit. Look what happens when you have a manager who believes in you, when the confidence is back and when you know exactly what you should do and what your role is. Pleased for him.

There will be good, there will be not-so-good performances but playing week-in week-out in the Premier League will be no doubt great for his development.

Nightmare, I don't know. He lost the ball for the goal, which isn't acceptable but apart from that, he did just fine. I think it says a lot that he didn't get benched after that game, the manager is happy with him. Hopefully, he can get more consistent though. This is a good start.

What daft take. Ole promoted him to the first team and gave him game time. He's on loan as he needs to find some consistency.

Not sure what you're on about here at all. The club obviously believes in him hence the new contract.

I haven't said anything else? Ole was brilliant to give Williams a chance.

So what's with the comment about "look what happens when you have a manager that believes in you?".

Just appears like a dig at Ole to be honest. As if Farke is doing something with Williams he isn't.

I'm highlighting the importance that a manager wants you, which is extremely important. Farke wanted him, loaned him in, and gave him the chance. I'm sure Farke is doing plenty different to Ole though, but that's another discussion.

Again not sure where your point is.

Essentially it boils down to Williams being at a point in his development where he needs regular games to iron out his mistakes and pick up consistency. He's had plenty of opportunities at United and was struggling so a loan is an ideal way of judging him.

Not sure there's much more to it than that.

Would you play Williams instead of Shaw?

He looks great in that video, and I'm sure it helps him remain concentrated when having to defend the entire game. Hope this loan build his game and he comes back ready to challenge for a spot! Telles shouldn't be too difficult to displace but for his sake it is better to play week in, week out.

My point is that I think he feels the trust and sees this as a new beginning and opportunity, which is good for him. I agree with what you said in this post. It's easier to get that at Norwich, less pressure too.

No, but if he keeps this up he can be a better reserve to Shaw than Telles. And maybe in the future, who knows, replace Shaw. Although Shaw has been pretty underwhelming this season, if we based it on last season, not many LB's would replace Shaw now!

Is it true he's right footed? If so, why isn't he going hard for right back? We're way more desperate there. I know we gave him a bit of time there but not sure if there was something seen as a weakness. I feel he's definitely got the potential, but I'm just generally curious why a right footed fullback wouldn't want to push on the right back position for the sake of crosses, especially with us relying so much on fullbacks for crosses right now (since our wingers generally focus on cutting in).

He’s not shit. He’s just probably not going to be good enough for Utd. Will do fine at a lower premier league team.

He is right footed. And can play on either side. I think he came through the youth ranks the same time as Ethan Laird, so generally played LB to Laird's RB. And played well there.

Then it was LB that the gap opened up in the 1st team with Shaw's injury and Williams came in and initially did well. And it seems now that LB is seen as his primary position.

I was hoping he'd get more game time at RB rather than LB, while it's the RB understudy spot that's a bigger weakness at the moment. And while he's right footed. But either's fine, of course, so long as he gets plenty of game time and performs well and comes back a more confident and experienced player.

Tbf he’s played a lot better for us on LB than RB, even if it might play a part that his RB games came when his confidence was lower.

Not ready for Norwich in Premier League in 2021/22, but at United played important games in 2019/2020 :houllier:

He's been alright for Norwich. They've got problems all over the pitch, he's not at fault for the goals they conceded this week.

I thought he’s been pretty decent for Norwich, no?
I had a glance at a Norwich City reddit. They were buzzing about him after the Arsenal game (where he was very good), but he's gone back to being shit again as he had a hard time against Sarr. Looks like they're just as kneejerk about players as we are.

To be fair, Williams was always going to get destroyed by Sarr. Tough assignment.

I know Norwich is pretty shit but he's showing nothing to prove he deserves a chance in the premier league, nevermind in Manchester United.

Giving him that contract was a mistake, with the way he's playing we won't get rid until it expires.

I'm sure almost all our defenders would look bad in this Norwich team as well!

Is this based on this one game or did you watch all of his matches? I remember he was MOTM against Arsenal earlier int he season.
