Losing to Comeback Winning!
Preparing for the future eh. Valencia and Darmian is leaving.. eventually.

Rather have our youth be the back-up/cover squad player option.

I assume with V and Darm out injured, he's the 4th choice FB sort of. Dalot and Young can play both sides and definitely ahead of him, and Shaw is the 1st choice LB.

Been great since stepping up to the U-23's. Hope we manage to have a dead rubber at the end of the season so we can get a lot of these lads a game.

Watched one game recently, think it was Vs Reading. He was very good with the ball, especially carrying it

This lad is ahead of Ethan Laird then?
Williams is a LB and Laird a RB and been injured for the better part of the season, he hasn't had any appearances for the U23s yet this season (this year's batch got promoted in January again). I daresay we'll see Laird soon enough, he's got more competition for first team places than Williams and is a year younger.

Williams is a very promising talent in his own right, he's quick, modern full back. His offensive game is top notch, his stand out attribute is his dribbling. He's good defensively but not exactly outstanding. It's telling how good he and Laird are offensively when a lot of our build up in the U18s is based around them.

@limerickcitykid what do you think about him?
Really good, and most importantly his attitude just seems amazing. Every time I watch him he seems to just get better and better. At first I thought he was just another good player, like the Aidy or DJ level of good but not in the top bracket, but he's recently really put his stamp on the team and I think is firmly knocking on the door of the top group of talent now. This season for the u18s he's been given the armband and has become the catalyst to the team. As I mentioned his attitude, along with his energetic play style makes him the teams driving force even from LB. He's a good direct attacker and a real leader. He has also stepped up really well in the couple of u23s games lately too. It is hard to really tell how good he is defensively though, I just don't rate the defensive play of u18s football. Tactical defensive play and set-ups are pretty much non-existent and he doesn't stand out as being really strong defensively like Lee O'Connor.

Even more than any of his ability or talent though, I think his biggest attribute really is his style and attitude which will make him an instant fan favourite. The kid wears his heart on his sleeve and goes to war when he is on the pitch. He fights till the end, even literally sometimes such as a recent game where it ended in a huge fight he was at the centre of.

Brandon Williams was born on the 3rd of September 2000 so while he is technically eligible for the U18s this season, he has been playing against opponents who will be younger than him. Personally, I'm glad he has now moved up to the U23s. I was in favour of promoting him at the start of the season.

Being in this age and manager just storming your time in the dressing room or on training grounds to tell you, you're going to Paris, maybe even playing against Mbappe for 10-15 minutes.

Yeah he's been more impressive of late from my initial assessment of him. He's been really good so it's well deserved.

He’s been impressive this season, although the first thing that comes to mind whenever I think of him is a red card he got against Liverpool or City, can’t remember, for a reckless lunge late on. Takes a lot to be given a straight red at that level!

This shows that O'Connor's first team chances are pretty limited. When younger kids who play similar positions are getting a look in ahead of him, it's a bad sign.

I do agree with you on Williams though. He looks a real talent. A great athlete, two footed and has the quality in the final third to make an impact offensively.

He also has the advantage of not having played much for the u23s.

Ever since his performance at the 2017 SuperCup NI he's been my favourite United youth player.

Laird is getting a lot of plaudits (and deservedly so!) but Brandon Williams has started off the season great as well on the left side of defence.

Both look to have a real chance - though the right side is looking a bit tougher with AWB and Dalot both being young.

Whenever I've seen the youth teams play, Williams has been one of the best performers. He along with Laird and O'Connor are our most talented defenders, I hope we find them good loans or even better give them minutes instead of wasting time on shit like Young, Rojo and Jones.

We really do have a lot of youth that could be on the verge of the first team.

Interesting how we'll integrate them all because it's not as easy as just slinging them all on the league cup fixtures. Will have to be a staggered sort of thing.

They are all getting experience Vs league 1 and league 2 teams which is a good start.

Gomes, Greenwood and Chong are obvious.

Garner is next.

Laird and Williams are close.

I also like Levitt, O'Connor and Ramizani has started to impress.

Im not saying all will make it in fact I know they won't but we will have at least a few, very exciting.

I personally think Dalot will get utilised a bit like a John O’Shea. Can comfortably play in 2-3 positions (RB,LB,RW) and do a decent job.

That is likely. I do hope that Laird and Williams can break into the squad in a couple of years though in their specialist positions.

I broadly agree with your assessment here.

I can see Greenwood getting a lot of game time this year, Gomes and Chong being used sparingly but more often in the League cup/Europa. Hopefully we can see Garner, Laird and Williams in the League cup/ Europa squads too.

O'Connor is obviously talented but probably suffers from a lack of size for his position and I'm not sure where he progresses to - right back or defensive midfield, Levitt is very decent and could get opportunities and Ramizani is showing more promise as you say- though I'm sceptical.

I know we say this every time, but this crop of youngsters are really promising

I can't catch much of the youth games but would love a bit of insight on Williams for anyone who watches him regularly. Is he two footed? I've seen a lot of highlights of his where he drives and even finishes with his right but also puts in some good balls with his left. Seems a tremendous talent, is he equally comfortable with both feet? At first I thought he looked completely right footed and fullbacks naturally playing on the side of their weak foot are almost nonexistent at the top of the modern game

He's good with his left but he's not really two-footed. He much prefers his right foot which is obvious when you watch him, but he doesn't look unnatural at left-back which can often be the case for right-footed players.

The highest praise I can give him is I’ve watched the reserves twice last week and I didn’t even realise he was right footed!

Dalot is injured and Shaw is probably injured too therefore he should be at least on the bench against Southampton.....well actually he should start because Young is just terrible but obviously Solskjaer loves him ......Darmian or Rojo on the bench instead of Williams then Solskjaer can feck off.

Let's put some belief into these lads, would love to see him on the pitch against Saints.
