So tough to predict but who will be the next one to break in to the first team squad this season?

Interesting to hear the thoughts of this forum as many see our young players more regularly.

So what’s your following;

1) Dead cert
2) Outsider suggestion

Is there any noise of any kid being fast tracked this season? Haven't really heard much. I would have thought Amass but he's being sold.

Not sure we have any dead certs to break through to be honest, ill pick Gabriel for the outsider suggestion though.

I usually get this wrong but I'd wager on Jacob Devaney for us as an outside suggestion (above Fletcher twins, Obi and Gabriel).

Kamason for me, I always think defenders have more of a chance of breaking into the first team squad and there are more opportunities in defence than other areas of the team.

Noah Ajayi
Bendito Mantato(if he counts as he already made his debut)
Jim Thwaites
Yuel Helafu

I think it's obvious JJ Gabriel will play some games. Jaydan Kamason I can see going out on loan, same with the Fletcher's and Obi

Considering Obi was making starts 16/17 months ago, you'd think he'd be getting close to challenging again. He was obviously way too young the first time around, but I'd hope he's getting closer to being ready.

No one will break through this season, just like last season. We have some exciting talent, though.

Shea Lacey

Kamason later in the season.

I do wonder about Noah Ajayi, given that we bought Tynan, who isn't that much older than him in his position.

I think Tyler Fletcher has a great chance, he's a classic under the radar type player. Nothing flashy. But if we get him in the midfield im convinced he will add balance and do a solid job. More of a steady breakthrough than a superstar out of the blue.
Lacey is the one that probably has best chance of being a new star but he will need some fortune with injuries of others for it to happen. Afcon would have been better placed this year for him.

I think his challenge is that he is in a position that has 2 players in front of him and then probably Yoro doing a makeshift role before he gets a chance.

Yeah curious about that too. But can still see both get chances if we get a few injuries and maybe in the cup games.
Noah Ajayi also looks alright on the RW side too.

Too soon to tell with another 4 matches left in the preseason. Looks like Amass, Collyer, Gore and Devaney are pretty much guaranteed to leave or go on loan. I'd say Armer, Kamason and Tyler Fletcher are likely to feature in the first team next season which leaves JJ Gabriel, Thompson and Twaites who the staff will probably make a decision after the next 2 matches where they're likely to feature in. As for Jack Fletcher, he was the least impressive of the group so far so will go on loan as well imho.

The only dead cert is Lacey as of right now.

I think Jack is a good example of coming into the 1st team before your ready, it's why I'm not in a hurry to bring in Thwaites. Jack had a lot of hype in the academy but he's struggling to find a footing in the first team and looks like he needs a loan. If we rush Thwaites it could be the same outcome, we'll end up turning on the player and say he's not good enough. Even though Jack only turned 19 4 months ago

Shea Lacey should be in and around the squad this season. Always looks decent.

Looking at how prospects are being viewed by the club its easily Lacey. He's in a position we already have Amad and Mbuemo so assuming we control games more, he'll get less pressured chances for minutes than the Fletchers, Twaites (At CM) or Amass (LB). Can easily see him getting minutes this season, especially if we get some favorable cup fixtures.

Obi could also be in contention but he looked like he needed more levels on his last outings before he can make the step up.

I agree, I think Tyler Fletcher and Lacey will both play bit parts in cup games until January, then head out on loan for the remainder of the season.

Gabriel will get a token 5 minutes here and there to appease him and his Dad and that'll be it.

Hard to say untill the transfer business is completed ofcourse.

Lacey is the dead certain. Gabriel to feature somewhere also seems certrain, even though I think it will be some cameo's in the cup at most.
If we get no more midfielders, there will obviously be opportunities there for Fletcher and Devaney.

Obi in he does not go on loan for the cup matches at least.

I think as some have said Lacey is basically a first team squad member now and think reports that the manager views him as such.

On the the outside bet, if we’re talking who can contribute over the next season, then Tyler Fletcher or Jim Thwaites.

Tyler, as I think he has probably improved the most over the last 18 months and I think his, similar to his dad, will be a manager type of player. Hardworking and fairly adaptable.

Jim has traits I think Carrick will like and maybe see a bit of himself in. Comfortable on the ball, good passing range and it’ll be interesting to find out if he can translate his dead ball talents to a higher level.

I just don't see it with the Fletchers. When you watch other kids from other clubs at their age, they are well behind. They aren't fast, and never really dominated in academy games. JJ, Lacey, Obi Tynan, have that extra something. Even Thwaites. You can see the clear talent in JJ etc. You have to have much extra to even be a chance. I worry that Thwaites, extremely talented, may struggle in the PL due to lack of speed. I think it was a City game and they marked him out and he went missing. I'm a fan of Thwaites and he has a lot of time. Noah Ajayi, has that extra something, bit clumsy at times, but can do things, a smokey in my opinion but worry that Thompson may step in front of him (at that price as well) Lusale is another, something about him but don't think it will be with us, Amir, already playing with Russia, a Rooney type, always been a fan, very committed. The brothers are really a dime in a dozen in midfield when you watch others of a similar age.

Without their surname they would not be in the position they are in. Jack struggles so much physically in senior football games there is no way he should have had these chances.
Tyler’s senior performances have been better but he should not be ahead of Devaney in that CM/CDM role.

Jack Fletcher looked good when he first signed and with the u18s though, he just hasn't progressed since then. Tyler Fletcher was injured but came in and started getting some goals and assist, but I just don't see it with him.
Jack at least has something about him. But maybe being an AM easier to look good?
Noah Ajayi I can see keep improving, he didn't have hype as others, but kept improving with confidence, still very raw though.
Amir Ibragimov I feel just stalled with progress , not really went to next level as his early hype and performances. But still early to write him off.
Jim Thwaites , I just keep changing my mind about him, some games he looks very good, and other times i barely notice him. but still very talented and young and as a CM , can keep him around.

It's very difficult to say but if I am a betting man I'd bet on Tynan Thompson. First of all he's 6ft1 which means he can survive the EPL physicality. He's also pretty fast and has a good technique. Finally the LW is a weak position for United especially if we don't buy a striker which would probably see Cunha being utilized there.

Lacey will be regular in the squad and will get some games.
If not sold and we don't buy Hall, Amass will get solid number of games.
Tyler Fletcher will be the one who will get some minutes now and than.
Delaney will have good loan, and I would not be surprise that one of strikers (Obi, Wheatley and Biancheri) get good numbers on loan.

These are harsh takes.

I don't know if they'll make it at United, the odds are against them, just as they are for any academy product. But they have been top performers for the u18 and u21s for a few years. Jack in particular at u18 level and Tyler seems to have improved a lot over the past year and has supplanted his brother as the more highly rated prospect.

Amorim and Carrick have both had them at the top of the list when looking at players who were the most ready to contribute to the first team and Steve Clarke called Tyler up to the Scotland World Cup squad. I think it's a big stretch to suggest that the only reason any of these managers rate them is because of who their dad is...

The Fletchers should be out on loan next season, they're only 19 so ruling them out is ridiculous. They do need regular games though in order to make the step up. A championship loan would do them a lot of good.

When you watch kids at other club their age you see them consistently losing to the Fletchers who have been starters for the best u21s in the country last year and starters in a treble winning u18s side before that. All these other clubs with far better players obviously just been letting the Fletchers win because of their name.

Watch loads of Tottenham u18s do you?

Samuel Lusale  feck knows what you’ve been watching anyway.

Teams win/lose but when you see overall individual talent, I see it differently. Lusale has some ability, been injured and the move up from London. I didn't say he'd make it with us, but he will eventually do well. The Fletchers are quality players but I don't see them going far with us. Lacey and JJ showed things today already.

Our finals team this year was very strong over the park. Byrne-Hughes, Helafu, Mills, Armer, Kukonki, McCormack, Ibragimov, Thwaites, Obi, Gabriel, Ajayi

The academy is about supplying the first team, or lately, being able to sell on with clauses which is smart. When you look at that team, it is a winning strong squad for sure but there is probably only one standout for the first team and he is a 15 year old kid. Quality all over in that team, that's why they win, but they may not be good enough for the top squad.

I agree i was a bit harsh. I do not mean that they have no talent but i do believe that the name helps them in terms of opportunities. Devaney has shown more in the academy than either of the Fletchers even back when they were all in the Under-21s together and the Fletchers were the ones making the senior matchday squad.

If his name was Jacob Fletcher things would have been a bit different. Sometimes the bias is unintentional.

What we have is a very strong squad in the academy and Under-18s and not necessarily the best individual talents. A team of 7s and 8s will beat a team with a 10 who has 5s and 6s as his teammates. An example is when we played Arsenal in the FA Youth Cup and Max Dowman was running through our team like knife through butter but we still won.

Also, talking about Tottenham, Luca Williams-Barnet as an individual talent at CAM has shown far more for club and country than Jack Fletcher despite being 1.5yrs younger but Man Utd have better performances because we have the better squad. I have seen Jack play for England youth teams and he is usually an anonymous squad player.
